Another bizarre beauty tip

As if using a Monistat product on your face wasn't strange enough, leave it to the girls over at MakeupAlley to come up with this one: Toilet seat covers as blotting paper. Have you? Would you?

Supposedly they work better than any other blotting tissue on the market at sopping up the oils from your face and leaving no trace of residue behind. Plus, they're cheap (how about free!). Well, unless of course you're me, because I'd just be way too skeeved out to swipe some of these from a public restroom.

If I purchased an unopened box from a restaurant supply store, it would cost me far less than buying traditional blotting papers, right? Because each toilet seat cover would yeild at least 10 uses. You'd just have to cut them up into little squares. And of course this would give me a reason to go on Etsy.com and look for a cute little carrying case.

Anyway, if you've tried these, PLEASE leave a comment here and let us know your opinion. Do they REALLY work better than traditional blotting tissues? If I can get past the skeeviness factor, I'll give these a shot.

  1. LOL, yup! I use and collect these. When I go to the bathroom, I punch out the donut part (the part that goes in the toilet, but I hate it going in the toilet because the automatic toilets pull the liner, blarg) fold it up, and save it for later. These toilet liners are a gem and free.

  2. T., you're always one (or ten) steps ahead of me! So I take it you like these better than traditional blotting papers? And if so, why? Thanks!

  3. I have heard this before but have never tried it.. I guess I will have to take them from school from now on haha :D

  4. I haven't tried the toilet seat covers, but I've always had pretty decent results with just a square of (obviously unused) toilet paper.

  5. Hey Kitty! You'll have to let me know what you think if/when you try these, ok? :)

Hi Leigh! Hum...I can't believe using toilet paper has never even occurred to me. I will test this out at home and report back. Thanks!

  6. I've tried it before after hearing it on TV (Tyra Bank's show). I'm not sure if I just wasn't "oily" that particular day, but it didn't do anything for me =( The materials a lot stiffer than the 'blotting sheets'.

  7. Well friend, I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, there are ladies in MUA who swear by Starbucks napkins as blotting tissue. For real, look it up, LOL! I mean, I know I have used similar napkins to blot my face, but now I want to see what's so special about Starbuck napkins.

Maybe I'll do a little experiment with the toiltet seat covers. Hope there are some in the Starbuck bathrooms next time I go there to pick up my Caramel Macchiato. Hehe!

  8. Hi Siluet! I had no idea that Tyra mentioned this on her show, but you bring up a good point about how they would be stiffer than regular blotting papers. Hum...now I really want to try them, just to see what the difference is. Thanks!!

Hey Beda! Wow...Starbucks napkins?! Now that's something I definitely wouldn't be creeped out to try! I've got to see for myself why those MUA girls like them. Thanks for the tip :)

  9. Definitely heard of this! The material is really similar to a few brands of blotting paper, such as ULTA... so I think it'd work about the same. My favorites are still the Clean & Clear kind, though! :)

  10. Hey Jenn! I was just thinking about you--I linked one of your posts to my weekly roundup a few minutes ago :)

Now that I think about it, I can see what you're saying about the material being similar to other brands of blotting paper. Some of them have that "crinkly" noise when you use them, just like toilet seat covers. The more I think about it, the more I am tempted to try them out just to satisfy my curiosity (BTW, I love the Clean & Clear too).

  11. I haven't but I imagine they would work amazingly well, same texture as blotting papers....But my favorite blotting papers are Starbucks napkins!!!! They work great in a pickle......Great post.

  12. Wow, Josi, Beda commented about the Starbucks napkins too (see above). I have GOT to get over to Starbucks and try these now (plus it gives me a good excuse to buy an iced coffee)! I'm wondering what makes these better than regular napkins? Thanks for the tip :)

  13. Wow, I used to use Starbucks napkins this way all the time when I lived in Washington state, but that was because I always had a bunch in my car. I didn't know they were so special.

  14. Hey Leigh--I know! If I would have known, I wouldn't have thrown out the 50 or so that I had in my desk when I changed jobs :)

  15. This is a great post. I have used starbucks napkins too. They work pretty well too. I prefer the toilet seat liners though. Clean and Clear are the best I have tried, but toilet seat liners are free, lol.

  16. Hey T! Thank you! My favorites are the Clean and Clear also, but if I can get great results with the Starbucks napkins, I'm all over it. Can't beat that price :) I'm definitely going to have to do a follow-up once I've tried out both of these options.

  17. LOL I've honestly done this! It's not exactly my go to tool.... but it does work!

  18. Hey Sarah! I know, it's so strange, huh? But if it works, why not? You know, you should give the Starbucks napkins a try if you haven't already. They truly rock :)
