The Lipstick League – week of 2.18.12

Lipstick League Question of the Week

What one makeup brush do you consider an absolute staple in your makeup kit?

G's answer: This is going to come as no surprise to long-time readers, but I have to go with $1 e.l.f. eyeshadow brush. Aside from being ridiculously inexpensive, the bristles on this brush are densely-packed, so it picks up color beautifully and it deposits color beautifully as well. It's a great multi-tasker and can be used for all-over application, crease color application as well as for blending. On quick weekend trips out of town, I've often packed just this brush for eyeshadow application and been perfectly happy. I've been using this brush for more than six years now and it never sheds--it's virtually indestructible. I feel like I pick up an extra every time I go to Target, just so I'll never be without it.

  1. I'd say the Essence of Beauty "Crease" Brush (the larger of the duo). It works well for creating a deeper crease and applying shadow on my lower lash line. The Real Techniques "Shading Brush" is just as great.

  2. Mine is very similar to yours G., its the Sonia Kashuk small eyeshadow brush from her core tools line (white handles). Only $5, I can do my entire eye look with it. Perfect size and density, well made and soft without being floppy or fluffy. Nice chisel edge.

  3. Real Techniques buffing brush or the expert face brush!

  4. I can't do without my MAC 217 blending brush. Amazing for concealer application (liquid or powder) and for blending eyeshadow. I've owned mine for 5-6 years and it's as good as new.

  5. I love my Bare Escentuals Wet/Dry Eyeshadow brush. I feel about it they way G feels about her e.l.f. I was gifted some EcoTools brushes, and the eyeshadow brush is pretty great.

  6. This is hard (love love brushes haha) but have to give to the MAC 217. I can do an entire eye with just that brush...and I usually do out out of laziness! I attempt to go light from dark shadows x

  7. An angled blusher im pale so bronzer, blush, and highlight are imperative and it can do them all!

  8. I have to say a powder/blush brush. I'm not picky — I like the one I have from Bare Escentuals. I was thinking about this, and I can actually put on eyeshadow really well with just my fingers, but not so with bronzer or blush.
