Sinful Colors news

Please be sure to read this post carefully. Please do not skim.

I never want to put bad or incorrect info out into the universe, and I take everything I blog about here very seriously when it comes to accuracy. So please don't jump to any conclusions when you read this post or make any assumptions.

Today reader Lisa22 left a comment on the You Tell Me page (thanks again for the comment, Lisa!) indicating that when she tried to order some Sinful Colors neon polishes at Cherry Culture, the website wouldn't let her put them into her cart. When she contacted customer service, she received a reply indicating that Sinful Colors was not going to be carried by Cherry Culture any longer and that they're being "discontinued".

I'm ASSUMING this means that Cherry Culture is discontinuing their inventory of Sinful Colors. I don't think that Sinful Colors the brand is being discontinued.

Now this is just my opinion of course, but what leads me to believe that Sinful Colors (owned by Revlon) is NOT being discontinued is the fact that they just recently released three new shades, and they've got lots of new floor displays and counter displays out there in the marketplace. We've all seen the tell-tale signs of when brands are discontinued (dwindling displays, displays that are never restocked, 50% off sales, 75% off sales, 90% off sales etc.). Sinful Colors does not seem to be following any of these patterns when it comes to their presence at Walgreens and Rite Aid (these are the only two retailers that carry Sinful Colors in my area, so they're the only two I can make this statement about).

The $0.99 sale that starts on Sunday at Walgreens is not atypical. We've seen this sale before (granted, they're few and far between, but Walgreens HAS run $0.99 Sinful Colors sales in the past). So again, I don't believe Sinful Colors is going away, but it appears that Cherry Culture is no longer going to carry their products.

By the way, when you log onto the Sinful Colors website, there's a message that says "the wait is almost over". I take this to mean that they'll have a fully-functioning website again VERY SOON, which again leads me to believe that they're not going away.  I've always assumed that after the Revlon purchase, they've had a team working on revamping their website, so it looks like that's the case and that they're almost done!

This is all that I know at this point, and I just wanted to share that with you since we all seem to be big fans of Sinful Colors around here. If you know of any additional information not covered in this post, please leave a comment below.

  1. Wow, when I first started reading this post I was so scared SC was being discontinued! Haha! I think I will email them personally & ask just to make sure, also I'll be sure to tell you what's up if I can!

    1. Ok, just contacted Cherry Culture and asked them what they knew. And if the brand was just not for sale on their site anymore, or if SC is actually ending. Just waiting for a response!

    3. Just got my response from Cherry Culture, and it's not good news. The brand is ending and not making any new products, just like a few other comments have already said.

Here's the direct email from Cherry Culture-

      "Dear Aly,

The Sinful Colors brand has been bought out by another company. Sinful Colors will no longer make new products. The company is unfortunately ending.

      Thank You."

Not good! I think I'm going to stock up on their polishes so I can be sure to have a few of my favorites left! :(

    4. Thanks Aly. I'm beginning to think that Cherry Culture may be a bit confused about what's going on. We know that Revlon bought Sinful Colors last year, and ever since then, Revlon has seemed to be reinvigorating the brand--not killing it! And as Heidi reminded us below (thanks, Heidi!), Sinful Colors is helping Revlon's bottom line...so it would be really strange if they suddenly decided to get rid of it (and why put that message on their website?).

For now I'm going to assume that Sinful isn't going away, but POSSIBLY they're planning on revamping the packaging and color line-up, which would explain the random Walgreens clearance sales at certain locations. Maybe those particular stores are getting a head-start or something, with other stores to follow?

So let's just hope my hunch is right! New bottles and new colors....let's all think positively about this one! :)

  2. I've been a Sinful Colors fan for quite a while now, they are of excellent quality yet are very affordable! I agree with you I do not think the brand is being discontinued because they are coming out with new displays and new colors. I love that they are only 1.99 (99 cents when on sale) and I hope that just because Revlon took over, that it wont go up in price! Thanks for the info!

  3. It's so strange that you posted this right now. I just got back from Walgreen's and I asked the make-up girl why they hadn't restocked any SC polishes in a while and she told me that they were being discontinued. She then pointed me to a shelf where they have the polishes at 75% off.

I don't know if it's accurate, but I was just told this no more than an hour ago. Maybe someone else had heard differently?

    1. Seriously?? That is VERY interesting and I think you for sharing! I'm wondering if maybe it's just particular Walgreens locations? Otherwise, if they were going to be 75% off clearance at all locations, they wouldn't have run the ad in their circular about the $0.99 sale. Hum....

      Delete
    2. Maybe they are saying they are d/c since Revlon bought them and they will get in new stock when all the old is gone?? Maybe Revlon is changing the look or the bottle or something and they just want to get rid of all old stock. No idea, just my 2 cents.

    3. That's what I'm thinking too, Amethyst! Let's cross our fingers!

  4. Considering that I live in the middle of nowhere and that Sinful has gone from being in zero stores to at least three (Target and two Walgreens)since April or so, I'd say there's no danger of that.

Sounds like CC is either choosing to not carry the line anymore or Revlon won't distribute it to them.

    1. That's what I was thinking too, but did you see Miss Biz's comment above? I'm wondering if certain Walgreens locations (and Cherry Culture) are getting rid of them?

      Delete
    2. I just saw that, yeah. My Target in particular has started carrying SC within the past month. I'm there almost every day for something or other.

Maybe we'll soon be seeing a new "Sinful Colors by Revlon" packaging or "If you miss your favorite Sinful Colors shade, check out this identical shade in Revlon's new $1.99 line of polish" website?

  7. Back in May you posted a link to an article that told how Sinful was helping Revlon's bottom line. It makes no sense for them to discontinue a successful brand.

  8. Being from DC, I remember Sinful Colors being the local brand that I could anywhere, but they are never in the Rite Aid stores that I go to and Walgreens never has the colors I want.

  10. I really hope the entire brand isn't being discontinued! I love their selection, price, and quality. It just doesn't make sense why they would release new colors and have new displays put up if it's true.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well that's lame, Cherry Culture is where I usually buy Sinful Colors. The only store around here that sells them is a pain in the arse to get to and almost an hour away.

  12. I am a store manager for Walmart. We just started carrying Sinful Colors and have received two sidekick displays (the ones that hang at the end of the aisles) in the last month or so. Our Revlon rep says there is a lot of new product coming soon. It didn't sound to me as though they were exiting stage left anytime soon.

  13. I just ordered several SC polishes from Cherry Culture a few days ago. I was surprised to see so many older colors that the stores didn't carry and they were on sale for $1.25. I got an email that my order had been processed, but no shipping notice yet. Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  14. In addition to the polishes, I am seeing more SC lip shines. I've seen a large SC polish display which def is not a sign of discontinuing the brand.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i really hope this isnt true , now it will be ever harder to find LE and new colors. ppl will go nuts " just incase" it does happen even if its not true ;(

  16. Ok I am going to admit I don't know much about this other than what I've read here but maybe since their site is about to be updated and since sinful has helped revlon's bottom line could they be relaunching with new colors and maybe different bottles? I know the sally hansen diamond strength just got a new bottle shape and some new colors, after the old ones were on clearance at cvs. Again I don't know anything more than anything I've read on this page, but that's the only thing that I could make out of all that contradicting info.

    1. I don't know either but would tend to agree with poster "drastic actions." Revlon might be changing the bottles or maybe even the name of the line. Heck, maybe "Sinful Colors" isn't flying with people in the Bible Belt! (little joke, but I've heard of products being renamed for less cause).

      Delete
  17. I hope it isn't true. I just recently started seeing displays at my grocery store of their core polishes. They seem like such a successful brand and are always putting out new collections.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh no! I hope they aren't discontinuing the brand. They are so affordable and most I have tried are good quality, it really would be a shame. I guess I will be picking up the colors I want next week in case they are gone forever :(

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, I'm going to be taking real advantage of the 99 cent sale then. I just put off buying the entire core line b/c I figured next month when I got payed I'd do it..guess I'll have to do it sooner than I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just jumping in to let you know that SC website had been completely inactive for a good 6 months or so prior to this month. I noticed the "wait is almost over" message back at the beginning of July, and I take it to mean that someone is actually going to start working on this website soon, and not a sign about the state of the company.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Has anyone tried contacting Revlon to see what's up?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe someone should contact Revlon and ask.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah I can't see Sinfuls being discontinued. I'd guess just by Cherry Culture...which is okay with me, they're on my sh*t list anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If Revlon ends Sinful, I will never buy ANYTHING Revlon ever again.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I've been checking the Sinful Colors website for months and it has been showing a message indicating it would be working again soon (not sure if the message shown now is the exact wording as what I saw in the past). I say that, because the picture on the site has changed over the last month or so, so there has been pretty recent activity.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Maybe they were talking about the neon collection being discontinued...?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I saw 7 new displays at my walgreens (the ones that had leap flog and fig) and one of the pow wow (was that what it was called?) But their display w the core collection is empty, i asked if they were on sale or if they had been and they said no...idk what is going on! -_-

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yea, it seems weird for them to be discontinued when it seems like they're starting to branch out more. Every time they do a collection similar to some of the higher end salon polish collections the displays seem to sell out. Lack of popularity isn't an issue for them!

Just trying to stay positive though, they really stay on trend with the hottest colors and for the price it's easy to try them out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think Revlon might be redesigning the bottles, making the old ones "discontinued" and for sale. It makes no sense otherwise. 1. Sinful Colors' website is undergoing a make-over. 2. New collections and colors are coming out. 3. Sinful Colors makes a good profit. Of course, this is just an assumption.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really don't think the fact that Revlon purchased the company last year guarantees the success of the company. We assume Sinful colors is doing well , but outside of the beauty community it may not be as popular as we all think it is. Revlon may have been able to purchase the company cheap, in the hopes of making a profit, but is not seeing the results they want so they are bailing. Could the fact that they just purchased Pure Ice and Bon Bon be an indication that they are cutting their losses with Sinful colors? I was hoping it would just mean that Revlon would be putting the Pure Ice brand in stores that don't carry Sinful colors, like CVS, so they could reach a wider audience, but who knows maybe they will replace Sinful with Pure Ice in Walgreens?

    1. Jenn, see Heidi's comment above. She includes a link to a news article I posted about in May where Revlon reported that the acquisition of Sinful Colors has HELPED their bottom line.

      Delete
    2. G, I did see the article. I'm sure it's true adding the sales from Sinful colors helped Revlon's bottom line as any additional sales would do. It didn't necessarily indicate those sales were good or bad. That email from CC seems very affirmative. It doesn't seem like they are confused, but I sure hope they are because I like Sinful colors and would be sad to see them go. I know I am definitely checking the Walgreens in my area to see if anything is on clearance and I will pick up the colors I know I want now, just in case.

      Delete
    3. "Could the fact that they just purchased Pure Ice and Bon Bon be an indication that they are cutting their losses with Sinful colors?" By buying THREE different budget lines of polish, I'd be more likely to think -- and this is pure speculation -- that Revlon will somehow combine them into one inexpensive line of polish that will be recognizable as a Revlon product. I mean, really, why have three different lines that are basically the same, because packaging is expensive.

      Delete
    4. I had not thought of that, that is a good point. Another point to consider, I assume Walgreens has an exclusivity agreement with Sinful Colors. A possible explanation for the sudden turnaround could be that Revlon after they purchased SC tried to get out of that agreement but couldn't work it out with Walgreens. I just can't see Revlon being happy with being limited to only selling SC at Walgreens. That's pure utter speculation based on nothing at all but boredom.

  31. Speaking of the 99 cent sale at Walgreens, I only have about 6-7 shades. Which ones do you'll recommend I purchase, especially with this possible news? I know I want to look for Leap Flog, Citrine, Winterberry, Savage (love that it's matte) and maybe a neon green since I don't have one in my overwhelming collection of NP. Any other suggestions for popular or HTF colors. I like matte ones too.
    Thanks for any help!

  32. I saw the clearance on Sinful Colors on the Cherry Culture website. I thought that just meant that Cherry Culture was going to stop carrying them. Not that the whole brand was ending. Like ours have said they may just be clearing out older colors.

I saw the big Sinful Colors display at Walgreens. It was full of pretty fall colors. I went to Sinful Colors website last week and saw the wait is almost over message like others have said. I feel like Sinful Colors is safe.

  33. Revlon may also have bought the rights to the name as well to use for something else,
but in my area (Northern NJ) I see more and more Sinful colors NP especially in Harmon now owned by Bed Bath Beyond.

My Take Revlon bought the brand and will re-package it.

I haven't tried this polish is it any good, the colors just dont appeal to me for some reason

    ReplyDelete
  34. I sincerely hope this is just a "tempest in a teapot" and either a) the people at CC have got it wrong or b) if Revlon IS in fact selling Sinful Colors, that somebody else is going to continue manufacturing the brand. Poking around the web reveals very little - NOTHING about divesture of the Sinful Colors brand by Revlon. However, I did read a good deal about Revlon's 1st quarter earnings 2012 compared to 1st quarter 2011. Net sales only increased $1.5 million. DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a business major so my saying "only" may be erroneous!! It just doesn't seem like a heck of a lot considering the magnitude of Revlon's portfolio. Comparing the TONE of reports regarding Q1 2012 I found they are...different...depending upon when they were written. February and March 2012 reports (prior to the quarters information release at the end of March/beginning of April) just seem a bit more....optimistic(?) in tone to me than the reports written after the quarter's earnings were posted. Nothing I read that was written in mid/late April seemed to indicate Revlon was knocking their sales figures out of the ballpark. REPEAT: I am not a business major!!! Their Q1 financial statement can be read at: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20120426005212/en/Revlon-Reports-Quarter-2012-Results. If nothing can be determined on Monday or Tuesday by calls to Revlon, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, the Company intends to release results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2012 and host a conference call at 9:30 AM EDT. The public can dial-in! (Aklthough if it's anything like the conference calls I've been on it'll be snore-worthy). The call can be accessed from the U.S. and Canada by dialing 1-888-297-0360 and using the passcode 4784942. Callers from outside the U.S. and Canada may
dial 1-719-457-2662 and use the passcode 4784942. Alternatively, the call can
be monitored via webcast by going to the Corporate Investor Relations section
of Revlon’s website at www.revloninc.com. There's no guarantee they'll reveal anything about Sinful Colors (if, in fact, anything is going on with them), but it's all I can think of if calls to Revlon on Monday gain no information. Hope this helps.
Why does this stuff always happen late afternoon on a FRIDAY???

  35. There has never been a time when nail polish has been such a huge seller. There has never been a time that Sinful Colors has been so successful. They may discontinue old colors (that cherry culture Carries alot of) but they wont end the brand at this time. Why are we relying on info from a seller? Until Revlon says it, I dont see it happening.
And I love how worried we all are. We r so obsessed! (confession - I own 95 of their polishes!)

  36. Melissa-- Bianca, if you like pink, is my fave SC color!! I'm in the land of Walgreens so I'm stopping at 10 or so tomorrow, maybe buying backups now :-/

  37. This news is a bit strange to me. My local Walmart just started carrying Sinful Colors, although when I saw the display it was a bit empty, only two polishes in the the whole display. I really hope the line isn't being discontinued.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I just got back from a Walgreen's fishing trip and they are fully stocked with SC in about 5 different displays. This does not look like they are going to d/c the product! The makeup/skincare salesgirl told me they are one of the biggest products she sees at her counter. BTW, I am in the Tampa Bay area in Florida. And, she was nice enough to hold about 6 bottles of polish for me until tomorrow's sale. I know, only 6? LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I sent a message to Revlon through their website. I'll let you know what they have to say when they get back to me. Their site says they aren't available on the weekend, so it likely won't be until at least Monday. In the meantime I'll have to make the most of the Walgreen's $.99 sale.

  40. Sinful Colors was carried by Cherry Culture when it was a small, independent brand. I used to love to buy their lipglosses there. Once it was bought by Revlon, CC stopped stocking new inventory. Why would Revlon sell to them? CC has always been for smaller, more affordable brands, not huge mass-market. I'm sure they mean the "old" Sinful Colors has been discontinued. Regardless of what the brand is called/will be called in the future, Revlon has shown a commitment to manufacturing and distributing an inexpensive, more edgy line of polishes. Nail polish has been booming business lately, and I don't see that changing. Don't worry, guys! Cool, cheap polish is not going away anytime soon!

    ReplyDelete
  41. i hope not i really love polish again and good cheap polish is a love of mine

  42. I just got back from my local Walgreens. I picked over a dozen SC polishes and at checkout I mentioned there was a rumor that SC was discontinuing and she looked up at me with big eyes and nodded that the brand was discontinuing. She said I should stock up while this sale lasts :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. I picked up another 12 bottles today, and my local Walgreens had a brand new sinful colors display, not just the small displays for the new collections. Also the had an end cap display with more lip shines. So I'm taking it as a sign that they are expanding. But they could be phasing out old colors. I guess we will just have to wait and see

    ReplyDelete
  44. This purchase is all very new to me but it does answer a few questions I've had regarding not being able to find it in my local beauty supply stores anymore. Not to worry though because the identical nail polishes are marketed in the BSS as Iris Colors and most have the same name and price.

  45. Hey Lisa22: If you're reading this, I'm sorry I had to delete your comment--I just don't like putting people's full names on the blog without their permission. I really appreciate the information and if you wanted to post it again without names, that would be great! :)

  46. I was just at walgreens, and the SC main display has been restocked since 2 weeks ago, and they had several smaller displays... That might indicate not discontinued? I still took the opportunity to stock up, bought 10 new shades and I'm planning to do a mega swatch post in the next few days just in case.

  47. I understand. Good thing I'm perseverant (sounds better than obsessive compulsive). I called and spoke with the office manager in the headquarters of Sinful Colors. I told her about the rumors and she confirmed that there is NO TRUTH to the nail polish being discontinued. She was getting off the phone with me and calling the appropriate people to try to get to the bottom of it. Sigh of relief!! I'm typing this online at Walgreen's waiting to pay for a dozen polishes. :)
