The Lipstick League - Week of 1.25.16

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

If you live in an area that is currently experiencing cold weather, what are some of your favorite products to help keep your skin soft and moisturized in the face of low temperatures?

G's answer: the weather here in San Diego has of course not been nearly as harsh as other areas of the country, but the temperatures have been wildly decreasing and increasing back and forth from day to day, which always takes a toll on my skin. My hands and feet always suffer the most when the weather's like this, and lately I've been slathering my hands with Soap & Glory Hand Food (love that stuff) and my feet with Heel to Toe Feels Like New Foot Softener (been using this for years and still swear by it).

My Beauty Bunny is Currently Craving: gorgeous new blushes! My skin has lacked a bit of color and glow lately, so I’m craving Urban Decay’s Gwen Stefani Blush Palette.

  1. When I lived in IL I had to use raw coconut oil to help my chapped and peeling facial skin. For regular cold weather I combine Vit E oil, 2 lotions from Shea Moisture, Olay anti-aging cream and sunscreen. If it gets warmer I use Avalon Organics Vitamin C serum and then a BB cream before applying makeup.

  2. I'm in Wisconsin and have been loving Ole Henriksen's Nurture Me moisturizer. It smells like orange creamsicles, though, which I don't really appreciate.

  3. I don't live where it gets super cold (I'm in NC), but every winter I would get a dry, flaky nose. Drove me nuts. I have recently discovered Hydro Boost gel by Neutrogena with hydrolonic acid, and that stuff is amazing. Not one bit of dry skin yet! I also like Perlier lotion that I got in a Birchbox, but it's a bit pricey, so I haven't pulled the trigger on a full size yet.

  4. I'm in the frigid north east and regular over the counter lotions and creams don't cut it for my already dry skin. I use my friend's skin care body butter which is incredibly rich and Acquafor in my face at night and an oil my friend blends by day

  5. I use an Eqyptian Magic sort-of dupe a lot that does wonders for me, and also a lot of other oils that absorb well.
By experimenting I mixed glycerin, sweet almond oil and some water along with a couple other easily absorbed oils and have been spraying that on my legs and it works pretty well. I've been using that more than anything and just tinkering with the scent by adding a splash of rosewater and/or a drop or two of lavender oil.
I also have other stuff laying around, too, though. Body Shop hemp hand lotion, this and that which I've picked up on sale or clearance. I'm more ADD about the whole process and usually just go with what appeals to my lazy self or what the need is (moisture, asap!) than anything, though.

  6. Its been pretty chilly lately( for Socal anyway). I have no less than 4 different hand creams on my nightstand and probably about a half a dozen lip balms. Lately I've been reaching for the OPI hand lotions because I love the scent. I also love this callus remover i get on amazon. I take it with me to bi-monthly pedicure and even the ladies who give me my pedi are amazed at how much dry skin it removes. Its called callus blaster and its acid free.

  7. I have been using Queen Helene Marula Face and Body Creme since summer, and I am still extremely happy with even in the Minnesota winter. I use it on my hands and feet, and it works really well for me. I found it at Sally Beauty. It comes in a tub. It has a nice, very light, slightly nutty scent. It is super dense and almost solid (especially in my very cold room). It's pretty greasy, so I like to use it under socks and gloves. I put it on my hands at night and then sleep wearing (thin, cotton, dollar store) gloves, and my hands have never been softer.
