Spotted: NEW CoverGirl Lashblast The Super Sizer Mascara

New CG mascara alert! And this one's quite different from other recent CoverGirl formulas we've seen.

Many thanks to reader @miss24k on Instagram for this one. @miss24k spotted this brand spankin' new mascara at her local Harmon this week (Harmon, along with Christmas Tree Shop, is a subsidiary of Bed Bath & Beyond, so it could be popping up at BBB as well as right now) and was nice enough to share some pics with us. Take a look at this one and let me know what you think!

I'm quite intrigued by this wand and the "twirl as you apply" directions. An inverted wand AND a special motion you need to perform? Well you know how I am when it comes to beauty gimmicks (I'm a sucker for them because sometimes they really work!) so you know I MUST TRY THIS ONE. Especially since it's a volumizing mascara (my favorite type).

A quick Google search led me to this article on Allure.com. Here's an excerpt:
First, there's the wand: Sandwiched in between the longer bristles are rows of the tiniest little baby bristles you've ever seen. And these tiny bristles get loaded up with tons of mascara—so much so that "mascara hits your lashes before the bristles do," Vickery explained. "That initial drenching of the lashes is unusual, and what it does is deposit a ton of mascara right at the lash line, giving you that intensity that makes your lashes look thicker." The longer bristles comb the pigment evenly through to the tips, especially if you roll the wand toward you (this is key). The other interesting thing about the Super Sizer wand is that the longer bristles are spaced far apart—26 percent farther apart than on most mascara wands, to be exact—so that lashes are coated with mascara in groups. "By coating the lashes in uniform groups, you end up with more of a dramatic look," says Vickery. I can attest. My lashes nearly touched my brow bone. And finally, the formula: "It's a dual-polymer system balanced with the perfect mix of clays and waxes," says Vickery. That basically means the formula is both flexible (so you have some play time when applying it) and long-lasting (so you won't get to work looking like you never went home the night before).

At first I thought maybe this was a dupe for Benefit's Roller Lash Mascara, but you don't "roll" that mascara on to the lashes (the directions on the Benefit site state that you "gentle wiggle" that brush on to the lashes) so this really isn't reminding me of anything else at the moment. If you can think of anything that this compares to, I would love if you'd comment below. In the meantime, I think I need this in my life, and I'll be sure to share my thoughts with you after I find it. Have you spotted this new mascara in your area yet? Thoughts?

Thanks again, @miss24K, for the great sighting and pics. I really appreciate it!

  1. I tend to use a rolling motion with most mascaras, including my fave L'Oreal telescopic. Just builds more drama that way! I know the instructions on Roller Lash from Benefit just say to wiggle from root to tip (standard mascara instructions) but a friend of mine had a Benefit sales girl give her very specific instructions on how to use the wand... I have been wondering why they don't include that info on the packaging! I wasn't too impressed with Roller Lash though and actually returned it (I still have a sample size though). Telescopic is still my fave <3

    1. Interesting! I'll have to ask for a demo the next time I'm at a counter!

  2. I'm definitely intrigued, but the whole "depositing a bunch of mascara at your lash line" sounds a little bit like a disaster waiting to happen.

    1. I'm curious about that too. I'm hoping it just gives a tight lining effect (sort of like how the L'Oreal Butterfly mascaras do).

  3. Ok so I kinda feel like the whole mascara situation is completely out of control right now. We have seen dozens of new mascaras pop up just in the past months. I mean really, I don't remember seeing this many new mascaras coming out all at once. That being said, yes, this does look amazing! I really, really hope it lives up to its claims because that brush does look unique. We shall see. If I see this I'll def. buy it.

    1. Lol there definitely have been a lot of innovative mascaras launched these days! And yeah, I really hope this is one is truly unique. We'll see!

    2. I agree with about the insane amount of mascaras on the market these days. I work at CVS and I counted the different Maybelline mascaras the other day. Can you guess how many there were? Thirty-three!! I mean, it's nice to have options but, how many mascaras does a gal need, really?

  4. I gotta say I never really get the hype over changes in mascaras. Sometimes I don't even wear it if I'm feeling lazy/going minimal, mostly because I find them a pain to remove & I honestly don't see much difference between a majority of the formulas out there. Yeah, I like some brushes better than others but at the end of the day I guess it's just not a critical product for me - if I really want a lashline with oomph I'll just wear falsies.

    1. You're lucky that you can skip it. My lashes are so fine, short and sparse that it's just not an option for me. And oh how I wish I could "just wear falsies" if I wanted oomph. I've been trying to master lash application for decades and I STILL suck terribly at it. Not an option for me...mascara is my friend and I love having more and more options and choices. :)

    2. G I don't know if you've heard of applying false eyelashes under your real ones, but it sounded interesting. I can't get the application down either and once found myself working in surgery when a the doc asked me if I had a spider above my eye...oh my. Both hilarious and cringeworthy LOL I think I read about the different application technique in an XO Jane article. I need to master falsies for special occasions because no matter how good the mascara is, it never survives big events. And if it happens to be allergy season the mascara game is over before I leave the house.

I bought the big sampler pack from Sephora and so far none of it is that impressive. I find myself reaching for my two favorite Maybelline mascaras at the moment: waterproof Lash Discovery and Lash Sensational. I curl first and apply a light coat of the Lash Discovery (gotta be waterproof or it won't hold the curl). I let that dry and hit them with a couple coats of Lash Sensational and I'm good for the day. I might give this CG a chance though as the brush is unique. The rolling tip is really interesting too.

    3. Have you tried adding a few individual lashes? I bought 6 pack of KARA lashes on ebay for 7.95. They are amazing lashes, made in Indonesia, human hair, easy application for me. It took a lot of practice before I could apply where they looked decent.

    4. I mean I like the look that mascara gives and I can see a difference with/without so it's not like I've got Elizabeth Taylor lashes (fun fact, her lush eyelashes were actually the result of a genetic mutation that gave her an "accessory row" of extra eyelashes!). But I just don't tend to see a lot of difference between ones with similar brushes so I don't have a go-to brand/formula (though I like the spiky plastic brushes best). Maybe I actually apply it improperly and that would make all the difference haha!

As for falsies, individual lashes like Randi mentioned are a great solution because then you don't have to worry about the false ones matching the curvature of your eye & getting the lashes to sit JUST so on the lashline. To that point, I generally get best results with falsies by curving them against my own lashline before applying (instead of just taking them as-is out of the package). I might have more success with them because I'm already used to putting in contacts, so my eyes don't freak out when my hands/objects like tweezers get close to them XD. And yes, there is a certain amount of practice required, as with any makeup endeavor.

  5. The only mascara I can think of that requires you to twirl the brush is Diorshow Iconic. There might be others that I don't know. This is intriguing but the Allure article saying it deposits "a ton" of mascara got me worried. Is that gonna be one of these mascara that make your lashes look like they're coated in thick dry tar?

  6. I am Team Spiny Plastic Fingers over Team Tangled Brush so I already love the wand. Twirling TOWARD your eye seems tricky. My instinct would be to twirl away. The similarity with roller lash seems to be the hook. I love Telescopic (and a lot of mascaras for different reasons) but my Holy Grail combo to define my already full lashes is Physician's Formula (green leaf knob on a beige tube) followed by Maybelline The Rocket (blue tube with hot pink) for TONS of length.

  7. I for one twirl and wiggle my mascara. I can't wait to read a review of this!

  8. I don't have very good lashes at all. Even missing some from a previous illness in a section on one eye. Luckily I wear glasses and not so noticeable. But to get the great lashes I see everywhere I too would have to wear falsies which I have practiced a cpl times. Need more. But at least it's not another contouring product. I don't think I can handle much more of that and I like it. Just not into buying.a big expensive pallet for it. Got mine a lot cheaper. In seperate powders than all together. Thanks though I don't think I'm coordinated enough to roll mascara to me. But I do like them.

  9. Can't speak for others, but I am returning my WP Tightline because it pulled my previously curled lashes stick-straight and make them droop :(. I buy WP because it usually holds a curl better than non-WP, but not this one. The tightline effect also didn't last as long as I eexpected, and it flaked a little as the day/night wore on. Overall it just didn't deliver which defeats the point of a WP version. I'm still looking.

  10. Color me intrigued, hopefully this is way better than Rollerlash which was a clumpy mess.

  11. This mascara seems very exciting! I agree with those of you that said Loreal's telescopic is one of the best mascaras, I haven't found anything else like it. This brush looks to me like a giant version of the Telescopic wand so I definitely want to check it out!

  12. The last two CoverGirl mascaras I have tried (Bombshell Volume and Full Lash Bloom) were not my favorites what so ever but I'm intrigued by this one! Will patiently be waiting for your review before purchasing :) PS: 400% is quite the claim!

  13. Wow what a coincidence. Just yesterday I was watching Sharon Farrell and Karima McKimmie and they used the Max Factor version of this mascara. So I did a bunch of searching yesterday and found this mascara only on Covergirl's website and nowhere else. So I thought to wait for it to be available in stores and I am delighted to see that they are starting to be launched!

  14. I totally agree with you..I prefer to use mascara; I have thin but long light brown/blondish lashes you cannot see the unless I use mascara. I have never put on falsh lashes and do not have a clue as to how to apply. Mascara is my first choice.. I also like to try new products.. I would love to find a holy grail one. lol until then look forward to reading your great reviews.. :D

  15. I spotted this at my local Walmart today and snatched it up. Used it today as well. I am already in love. The formula is quite wetter than previous Lashblast formulas but not as wet as Maybelline "The Rocket" it is nice and smooth, doesn't clump, and as the quoted Allure article mentions you have time to layer before it dries. It is flexible on the lashes, not crunchy at all. And it gave me excellent length and a good amount of volume. I used the twirling method suggested and it was helpful in evenly coating the lashes root to tip And evenly spaced out my lashes for a beautiful look. I had no problem reaching all my lashes on both the inner and outer edges and the small flexible bristles make this very lower lash friendly too. My first impression is very good so far, I think I may have a HG contender on my hands.
