Anyway, the good news is that if you have been thinking about trying these new lipsticks, and you don't want to order online, you may be able to find them at your local Target soon (if they're not there already). I purchased the shade Rosy-Go-Round, so let's take a look!
e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick in Rosy-Go-Round
(retail: $3, 0.13 oz*)
(retail: $3, 0.13 oz*)
*Note: the e.l.f. website has the weight listed as "0.11 oz" but "0.13 oz" is printed on the packaging of this lipstick.
There are ten shades in this range, which you can view here. After looking at a zillion swatches online, I ended up going with Rosy-Go-Round since I'm on a rose kick at the moment.
The design of the case reminds me of NARS lipsticks (many of the e.l.f. Studio products have packaging that seems inspired by NARS packaging) but the plastic feels thinner than NARS lipstick tubes, and the lid doesn't shut as tightly. It does make a "click" when it closes, but it doesn't take much effort to pull off the lid.
Rosy-Go-Round is a neutral rose creme. If pressed, I would say it veers more toward the warm end of the spectrum, but I think cooler skintones could easily pull it off as well.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this lipstick, and it feels a bit more luxurious than the $1 e.l.f. Essential Lipsticks (that I also enjoy quite a bit). The color of Rosy-Go-Round is sheer but EASILY buildable--you can really control the pigmentation to your liking and it doesn't take more than a few swipes on the lips to get some very intense pigmentation.
The texture of this lipstick is a bit creamier than the e.l.f. Essential Lipsticks and it feels almost gel-like the longer it sits on the lips. It has a cushion-y feel to it that I like quite a bit. Staying power is good--I can get about three to four hours of wear and as this lipstick wears down, it leave a nice, even stain behind (no ring-around-the-lips). The stain is not a weird shade of pink--it's quite true to the original color of the lipstick as it fades.
The fragrance of this lipstick is vanilla-based and it reminds me a bit of MAC lipsticks. The flavor is very subtle--it tastes faintly of vanilla but it's not strong and it basically disappears after about 15 minutes.
FINAL VERDICT: I can't speak to all shades in this range because this is the only shade I own, but so far I am loving Rosy-Go-Round. It's a very comfortable lipstick to wear, and I appreciate that you can easily build the pigmentation and go from a sheer wash of color to bold pigmentation in just a few swipes. I also appreciate that this lipstick leaves a nice, even stain behind, and the color stays true throughout its wear-time. For a $3 lipstick, I'm impressed. I think these feel a bit more luxurious than the $1 e.l.f. Essential Lipsticks and the pigmentation is more intense as well. To me, they feel like the e.l.f. Essential Lipstick's older, more sophisticated sister, if that makes sense! I can't wait to try additional shades if/when I spot these at my local Target.
Do you own any e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipsticks? If so, which shades do you own and how have they been working for you?

Fun! I think I need one of these to add to my lippy stash... =)
ReplyDeleteImpressive for a $3 lipstick! Pretty color too...:D
ReplyDeleteMy Target SUCKS at refreshing ALL of their beauty aisles.. Although we just got the Boots No7 collections! It takes up a whole aisle!
ReplyDeletehmmmm the packaging on your lipstick is different from mine. i bought this exact color about 2 months ago on the website. i like how yours looks better!
ReplyDeleteMy packaging is different too! One of my other shades, Flirty & Fabulous, came in the same packaging as the one pictured here.
DeleteSame here regarding the different packaging (the color band is around the middle of the tube) and I bought this in Red Carpet at the beginning of December.
DeleteMy holy-grail pink lipstick. Picked one up in February with three other shades, but this is my favourite. I like that the texture is creamier than a Rimmel lipstick, so it doesn't bleed or transfer nearly as much.
ReplyDeleteGreat color choice!! I'd love to see your blush review!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll definitely be reviewing that too! :)
DeleteI love it when elf kicks the $12+ price point lippies to the curb!!! I'll have to try at least one of them now. :)
ReplyDeleteRight now Elf is having a "Secret" 50% off sale up to $10 off! When you go to the Elf website you will see a ad about it and when you click on it you get a code for 50% off.
ReplyDeleteMy local Target has the worst makeup department ever. That includes ELF. The new stuff never shows up. But being the optimist that I am I will be looking for these! Heck maybe KMart will get them. Great review G. !!
ReplyDeleteMy Target is the same, the selection is so small I wonder why they even bother to carry it.
DeleteI recently got Rosy-Go-Round and Red Carpet from an online order. I haven't tried Red Carpet on my lips yet, but Rosy-Go-Round is awesome. Like you mentioned, its easy to get a range of coverage/intensity.
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad to hear you feel the same way about this one. :)
DeleteI have been recently addicted to E.L.F. Thanks for the review!! Definitely going to get some of these!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I think that elf increased the amount of product in this when they changed the packaging...so if you have this in it's older lipstick package (it didn't have the clear bottom to see the color but a colored ring around the middle) it's 0.11oz but the new one (the one you have) is 0.13oz
ReplyDeleteoooooh ok.
DeleteI can't believe e.l.f. changed the packaging already...
ReplyDeleteI have four of the shades, but my fave is still Cheeky. Absolutely love it. Hmm, I'll have to check my Targets. There's still a few shades I'm trying to get.
This looks like the kind of shade that can work for everyone. I'll definitely check it out if it shows up at Target.
ReplyDeleteG!!! Take the bottom off! On the e.l.f website in answered questions it says that there is a LIP BALM/GLOSS THING AND I NEED SOME PROOF! - <3
ReplyDeleteits true! i was wondering if anyone noticed!!!
DeleteI got razzled dazzle red and berry kiss and i actually popped the bottom (the colored side) off and there is product in there!
ReplyDeleteYep its true. You can pull the bottom off to reveal a tiny pot of lip gloss. I thought people were making it up at first until I tried it myself. Such a cool idea, and so cute.
