Waterproof or washable mascara?
I think I'm in the minority here, but I prefer washable. I actual never use waterproof mascara, because I don't like to use eye makeup remover if I can avoid it (I like facial cleansers that can remove everything at all once, because I'm lazy like that!). I also don't like any extra tugging or pulling in my eye area and waterproof mascaras, for me at least, always require extra work for removal. I know that many of you prefer waterproof mascaras because they tend to hold a curl better, and I suppose if I actually took the time to curl my lashes every day, I might be more tempted to make the switch!
Washable all the way! That way one baby wipe gets the whole eye/face makeup removal job done. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the waterproof. My eyes water VERY easily due to allergies, yawning, etc, and I'm a huge sap, so I cry at everything. I'd look like a raccoon, XD
ReplyDeleteI use washable most of the time. It's rare for me to use waterproof since it's tough taking it off and I hardly have any lashes in the first place, so more lashes come off when I use waterproof. But I'll buy a tube if the occasion calls for it.
ReplyDeleteI prefer waterproof because washable gives me serious panda eye. The main problem I have with waterproof is the mascara dries out a little too quickly for me so I have to replace it sooner.
ReplyDeleteWashable! I have sensitive skin and even mild cleansers may cause irritations when you least need them ...but there are exceptions and you have to use whatever is needed to look your absolute best case in point: your wedding, a job interview/presentation, super formal event.
ReplyDeleteAlso a washable girl! I dislike having extra steps (aka more time) in my personal care routines so being able to cleanse my skin and remove makeup in one step is important to me.
ReplyDeleteI only use waterproof at weddings, funerals or really humid outside events. Too difficult to remove.
ReplyDeleteWashable. I don't wear mascara often enough to be bothered with waterproof.
ReplyDeleteI also prefer washable -- for the same reasons. Plus, I don't really have reason to wear waterproof.
ReplyDeleteWashable! I had a horrible experience with a waterproof mascara, I think I bought it on accident and I used it. And it felt like I literally had to pluck away my eyelashes to get the mascara off. I've tried using olive oil for it, and alas no avail, but eventually got it off. So I've stayed away from it ever since.
ReplyDeleteOn a day to day basis go washable. I like waterproof for special occasions or extra long haul days.
ReplyDeleteI use the Clinique mascara that washes off with warm water. I love it! It's washable, but only under very specific circumstances.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely washable
ReplyDeleteI always wear waterproof. Mostly because I'm active and non-waterproof can't keep up. Also, I tend to perspire a lot during hot, humid weather. I'd have raccoon eyes if I wore washable. In the cooler weather I do wear washable if I'm not doing anything active. I use a thin coat of petroleum jelly on my lashes at night to help keep them in good condition.
ReplyDeleteWashable. I hate the feel of waterproof mascara, and fighting to remove it always results in losing several eyelashes, so no to that.
ReplyDeleteWashable! Waterproof is tough on my already sparse lashes - and oily waterproof-makeup-remover leaves residue in my eyes. My eyes do tear a lot - so I've stopped putting mascara on my bottom lashes altogether, and since my eyeliner is fairly waterproof, it works.
ReplyDeleteI need waterproof. My eyes are sensitive to sunlight so they water very easily, and then my makeup in a mess without waterproof mascara.
ReplyDeleteTypically I prefer waterproof. For some reason I get better results. However, I'm currently loving Jordana's Extreme Lash Volumizing which isn't waterproof.
ReplyDeleteI'd take a good washable over waterproof any day. I've lost too many lashes to waterproof and if you find the right washable they have the same staying power :)
ReplyDeleteWashable. I'm all about the ease of removal.
ReplyDeleteI do have some waterproof for days at the beach and other events where washable won't be worth the time to put it on, but for most days, washable it is.
Well, I have to say a little of both! My current routine is to use washable but then I found Rain Coat by Ulta which makes any regular mascara "waterproof". It's the best of both worlds because if my eye waters, my mascara doesn't run, however, it's not really that difficult to remove like a traditional waterproof mascara. In the summer I do need a straight up waterproof mascara because I have a pool. I have not tested the Ulta Rain Coat for swimming purposes yet. We'll see how truly waterproof it is!
ReplyDeleteWaterproof on the bottom lashes (when I wear it), but washable on the top. I wear contacts, and I once had to get rid of pair because a flake of waterproof mascara adhered to it. :( And I also like being able to remove it without losing so many lashes.
ReplyDeletewaterproof! i'm a swimmer with oily lids, monolids, and straight lashes....so yeah. XD
ReplyDeletei feel like my requirements for waterproof are also a lot more stringent because of the combination of factors. covergirl lash blast flaked on me, but maybelline full n soft is great! it gives me a defined, lengthened, and somewhat volumized lash look i want plus great staying power and no smudging/flaking even when i swim! plus it comes off easily with my cream cleanser. :D
Washable only!
ReplyDeleteG... what you wrote goes for me too. Except I never ever curl my lashes. They are naturally curled enough. Whenever I did curl them in the past they looked so damn funny. Maybe I didn't do it correctly, but I won't try again until I find my curler. I know I have one somewhere...
I go halfsies, washable on top, waterproof on bottom. It's an extra step, but I do it because my lower lashes always seem to flake. Waterproof on my top lashes is such a pain to get off and I always seem to lose lashes when I'm taking it off. :-(
ReplyDeleteI use waterproof for funerals only. Washable all the way! Same thing with liquid liner... my Wet'n'Wild H20-Proof black liquid liner is so great, but takes so much effort to get off!
ReplyDeleteWashable, I have very sensitive eyes and I hate how dry waterproof feels. It makes my lashes feel "crunchy"
ReplyDeleteWashable for me too G. I don't like seperate eye cleanser. Too much bother. I do buy a tube of waterproof every spring because alot of you know I am a runner and I still like to "look cute" at a race so that's where waterproof comes it. I use it for races and it will last and not run in my eyes
ReplyDeleteWashable! :)! I loathe waterproof for the exact same reason that you do! I don't enjoy not being able to just simply use my makeup remover cloths to get my mascara off! The skin around my eyes seems to be fairly sensitive so any extra stress on it is not welcome. I haven't found a really good occasion for me personally to want to use waterproof. Maybe some day!
ReplyDeleteI have both. I generally use washable though for everyday type lighter makeup. I use waterproof when I know it's going to be a long day, special occasions, and when I will be in water; at the pool, beach, lake etc.
ReplyDeleteI have both, but I prefer waterproof. My eyes water a lot and I have allergies.
ReplyDeleteWaterproof, otherwise it would smudge all over, and bleed when my eyes inevitably water.
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for washable. I don't like to have to tug at the skin around my eyes either. I like a simple, gentle, quick routine. And I prefer to take care of my lashes and not dry them out with waterproof. Even for work outs I'd rather deal with a little run off than wear waterproof! And when I swim I simply don't wear mascara at all!!
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I do have friends who must wear waterproof due to very sensitive eyes (flaking). I wore my gf's one time when I forgot mine (let the stones be thrown now lol) and it was Cover Girl lash blast waterproof and it was kind of pretty awesome! Stayed curled all day, amazing for me.
I absolutely agree with you here. I'm for washable all the way! I rarely wear waterproof mascara-only in certain situations where I need to for longevity or being outside in the rain for some reason. I also like my facial cleanser to get it all off and don't want to pull and scrub any eyelashes out!
