Paula's Choice Celebrates Leaping Bunny Certification with contest, free shipping and more

Exciting news to share with you today from Paula's Choice. Keep reading for all of the details!

Seattle-based cosmetics company Paula’s Choice LLC, has been cruelty-free for 17 years - and this month is proud to announce it will be wearing orange in a big way as the newest, certified member of the Leaping Bunny Program. Companies certified through the Leaping Bunny Program have made a voluntary pledge to eliminate animal testing from all stages of product development.

To celebrate this important milestone, Paula’s Choice is holding We Love Our Animals Photo Contest on its Facebook page. To enter, all someone has to do is post their favorite animal or pet photo along with a comment about why they believe beauty products should never be tested on animals. Each week, one photo will win a $100 Paula's Choice gift certificate. In the final week of the 4-week contest, a grand-prize winner will win a year’s supply of Paula’s Choice skin-care products of their choice. Even better, if people want to shop Paula’s Choice after entering the contest, the company will donate 5% of their purchase to the Johns Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing.

The requirements for the Leaping Bunny Certification include a commitment to eliminate animal testing not only from the company, but also from their ingredient suppliers. The result is a product guaranteed to be 100% free of new animal testing. All Leaping Bunny companies must be open to independent audits, and commitments are renewed on an annual basis. The program is administered by a coalition of animal rights organizations, including the Humane Society of the United States and the National Anti-Vivisection Society.

Paula’s Choice namesake founder Paula Begoun states, “All of us are thrilled to have this certification as definitive proof of our commitment to not testing on animals. Our pet friendly office with 15 dogs is proud of us, too.”

  1. I used to love Paula during her "cosmetic cop" days.. and would literally carry her current book with me to the store. Ever since she came out with her own line however it's been a different story. Her reviews just have not been as accurate IMO, and there is a definite slant in favor of her own line. I just don't feel I can trust her anymore.. and it's sad.

    1. I absolutely respect your opinion and I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts here. In my personal experience (I've been a fan for a very long time too), I realize that she does have her own brand to sell (and I think it's a fantastic brand--my opinion) but I think her reviews on Beautypedia are still honest (and timely). I just looked up something the other day and was surprised to see it already reviewed there (and I happened to agree with everything she said about the product).

Anyway, I certainly understand your point...just wanted to share my personal experience!

    2. Just a few examples: In her best list of eye moisturizers out of every brand made(category picked at random) she lists 40 items.. 10 of which are from her line. Her products may be good.. but not that good. She gave the new CG outlast 3 in 1 foundation a "poor" rating. There were six user reviews and five of them were telling her it was the best drugstore foundation they have ever used. She gave the ELF flawless eyeshadow (which is awful.. chalky, chunky, extreme fallout, and poor pigmentation) a "good" rating. She gave the Palladio eyeshadow quads (some of the nicest shadows I've ever used, high or low end) an "average" rating.. second only to "poor".

    3. I think she's pretty clear on why her reviews give the ratings they do. She doesn't rate on performance alone.

I like that she formulated her own brand on what she didn't like about others, although I don't always agree with her. For example, she lists propylene glycol as a non-irritant with a "good" rating, but even a small amount of the stuff makes my skin swell, turn bright red, and is horribly painful. I also don't like that she uses "penetration enhancers," since they can help anything into your skin, not just the ingredients in her products.

I love her 2% BHA lotion, since it's the only one out there without fragrance.
