The Wednesday Question (skin issues edition)

What's your skin type, and what's the number one thing you'd like to improve or correct about your skin?

I have oily, mature skin that's generally pretty clear, but I'm prone to time-of-the-month breakouts. The number one thing I'd like to correct is the dark circles under my eyes (it's an endless battle of the concealers in my makeup bag!).

  1. I am 21 and have dry/combination skin in the winter, normal/combo in summer. My main issues are time-of-month breakouts and acne scars. The scars are tough, because the AHA products I use does fade them, but then I have a breakout the next month and the process repeats itself...very frustrating! Anyone with a similar issue have any tips xx

  3. Being very pale with really dark hair, I spend way too much time on facial hair removal. I've also noticed that undereye puffiness has gotten to be more of a problem as I travel down the road to 40.

  4. I also have oily, mature skin. I don't breakout much but I do struggle with clogged pores. I would love to get rid of my lovely collection of blackheads.

  5. I have aging skin that is a bit dry but does go through a brief oily time when the seasons change then goes back to its tendancy to be dry. I have few fine lines, (crows feet but I actually like the character they give me) I am starting to see a little sagging that I would like to correct but nothing has made a difference. My biggest issue is bags under my eyes, no dark circles just puffiness and I haven't found anything to de-puff. All in all though I have pretty good skin, clear with no scars except on my lip from a precancerous mole that was removed a few years ago.

  6. Normal to oily skin...and oh, how I loathe and despise my broken capillaries in my cheeks and the melasma on my forehead. Thanks, children. Mama really appreciates those. Totally worth it in the end, but a battle to conceal when I really want to.

  7. Surface redness! I wish I had clearer skin too, but it's really the redness that bums me out.

  8. I'm 33 years old and live in Southern Ontario in Canada and the more I think about my skin, the more I feel like it's in a transition phase and becoming more mature skin. I used to have combination very oily in my teens and twenties. I still get very oily, but almost only in my t-zone area but the outer perimeter is starting to get dry when it used to be normal. My biggest problem with my skin though is that it is extremely blemish prone. For the most part, I have it contained with a combination of BHA and benzoyl peroxide. To help with scarring, I will use an AHA for a week solid after the blemish heals with the BHA and BP layered on top. And I always use a sunscreen, even when I don't plan on going out. This helps, but there's only so much of an effect this can have on my complexion when I always battle with blemishes, either from irritated skin or hormones. I'm also Asian and I do deal with hyperpigmentation, but it hasn't gotten to the point that I feel it's an issue. Of course, the exfoliants and sunscreen help with that too.

  9. I had near-perfect skin all through my teens and most of my twenties. Then, BAM, around 27 or 28, all those zits that should have been plaguing me finally decided to show up. It was awful! I tried every single OTC acne product out there but nothing offered lasting results. Finally, a little over a year ago, things got really bad (cysts, nodules, the whole bit) and I made an appointment with a dermatologist. I am SO glad I did!! He put me on antibiotics and gave me Epiduo, a topical cream with a retinoid and benzoyl peroxide. It took a full 8 weeks for it to really work (I almost gave up!) but I am THRILLED to say that I have been completely acne-free for a year now. My skin is still oily as heck, but I have had absolutely no zits, whiteheads or blackheads in a year. I wish I had seen a doctor years before I finally did and I strongly encourage anyone suffering with acne to do so :-)

  10. I'm 27 and have normal to oily skin. For months, I was only getting like one zit during that time of the month. I can deal with that. But now I'm getting them more frequently, always on my chin and near my mouth. Ugh, it's so frustrating because I'm not sure what caused my acne to flare up. If that would clear up, and my pores shrink some, I'd be good to go!

  11. Combination, sensitive skin that is always breaking out! I've started experimenting with clay masks which seems to cut down on the size of the pimples and even prevent them. I also have dark under eye circles (thanks genetics). But have found that the Giorgio Armani master corrector helps significantly when layered under my concealer. I have to thank the wonderful woman at the Bobbi Brown makeup counter for suggesting and raving about that product.

  12. I have very oily skin. Even after Accutane. I wish it would magically become less oily, but that's not going to happen. The best remedy I've found is Revlon's Colorstay Whipped Creme foundation. It's awesome for oily skin!

  13. I am 21 and have combination skin as well. Around winter time I have dry patches around my mouth and above my eye lines but under the eye brows. I have acne around time of the month. I started the oil cleansing method in December and it has REALLY helped! My redness is non existent unless I pick at my skin. My dry patches have completely cleared up. If you haven't heard of the oil cleansing method then you should certainly look it up!

  15. I'm lucky in the skin department. It gets dry in winter and I have some dark circles under my eyes and visible veins below my eyebrows, but really, I don't have any problems with that. A friend of mine started selling Mary Kay so I tried their concealer, and it works perfectly under and above my eyes.
I think if I could change one thing about it I'd want to get rid of that dryness. It's like I turn into a lizard if I shower too often between November and April. Not fun.

  16. I have severe combo skin ranging from flaky dry to oil slick on the same day. Quite fair, very warm toned, but have been battling melasma since my first pregnancy almost 20 years ago. I am actually quite happy with my skin for the most part, I changed my skin care routine two years ago and it has never looked better... except for the hyperpigmentation. I cannot use acids, I even have to be really careful with foundations.. the salicylic acid they do not advertize in Colorstay whipped burned my entire face... and not much else helps. I also have hooded eyes and puffy dark circles which is the only other major issue I deal with on a daily basis. The Garnier eye roller does help a lot with the puffiness.

  17. I have combination skin too with redness on my nose and cheeks (plus spider veins on my cheeks, I'm concerned it might be rosacea as I'm only 22). I wouldn't mind my face being a little less rudolph-esque, but first I'd like to clear up the acne and blackheads I get all over my forehead nose and chin. :(

  18. For me it would be very oily skin that "eats" make-up right off my skin. Followed by large pores over the entire cheek area...not just the sides of my nose. Dark violet under my eyes, mostly by the inner corners...which has been said due to allergies, but I think its more because I have a very fair complextion and the skin in that area tends to be the thinnest...idk. Thankfully, acne has no longer been an issue since 2001 when I discovered Dr. Bronner's castile soap as a facial cleanser. I also started using seabuckthorn berry oil at night for the past month and noticed the blackheads on my nose dissapear

  19. Btw- just wondering why I have trouble posting the first comment? Seems I'm never able to leave a comment until someone else goes first...usually I'm commenting from my phone, not sure if that has something to do with it?.. Also to add to my last comment...I'm 34 yrs old.

  20. I'm mid 20's with normal skin in the winter and oily skin in the summer. I don't breakout to often (thank you BHA, water and AHA) but in the summer time (even with primer) the oils on my skin eat every bit of makeup. My main concern for my skin is the texture and fine lines. Many anti aging products are far to heavy for my skin unless it is winter time.

  21. Basically I suffer from the same thing as G! Oily T-area on the face, breakouts at that time of the month, and dark circle under my eyes. I would like to get rid of these pores too. I can pass for about 8 years younger than I am on a good day!

  22. I am 41. I get stress breakouts but my Proactiv takes care of those. My current concern is the crepey skin that is happening around my eyes. I would love a fix for that!

  23. I have combo/oily skin. Random dry patches in winter. And terrible acne. Seriously. I went to the dermatologist and the first thing she said when she walked in was "wow you have a lot of acne" how nice of her, right? Sometimes when I switch up my cleanser, it looks ok, but if I stick to a routine its horrible. Its also reaaaallllllyyyyy bad when I'm stressed out. Its half hormones, half hereditary(THANKS MOM! -___-)
The derm prescribed epiduo and it didn't help...AT ALL. I really need to find a doctor who will give me accutane. So yes. My #1 would be to clear my skin up. At least give me a smooth canvas. I can work with and cover everything else.

  24. I have fair, dry/combination skin. My main concern is covering up redness! My cheeks are very ruddy in places I don't want them to be!

  25. I get sun spots, dark freckles (or flat moles? haha). I'm only 25...it's driving me nuts. I've got to be a lot better about sunscreen, but I get them even if I do wear sunscreen.

  26. I'm 30 with combo/oily skin. I get time of the month breakouts and hyperpigmentation. I think that I can deal with the breakouts if I didn't get the spots afterward.

  27. I have combination oily skin. I've been struggling with acne since a teen (now in mid-20s) and I just dream of the day that I can have clear flawless skin, no acne/no scars.

  28. I struggled with acne from about 11 until I tried Proactiv when I was about 25. After having a horrible reaction to the benzyl peroxide that left me with severe acne scars, I threw out everything, makeup, treatments, etc. Now I use fragrance free soap to wash my face, fragrance free physical sunblock during the day, and Paula's Choice 2% BHA Lotion at night.(I used to use Neutrogena's 3in1 Stress Free Gel, but they discontinued it). My skin has never looked better, and now I only get a hormonal breakout on my chin right before my period, but it's never more than one or two spots.

  29. I have combination skin, but during the summer Cali months that oil (since I turned 28+) goes overload and I break out. smh Its always a fight to stop the oil and breakouts that only happen on my cheeks.

  30. I am 24 and have extremely dry skin. I would love to get rid of my hideous forehead wrinkles. I don't ever wear foundation, because it just enhances the lines.
