One of the most budget-friendly ways to indulge in luxurious bath and body products is to opt for one of the lower-priced items in a range. When one of my favorite higher-end bath and body brands releases a new collection and there's no room in my budget for a body wash or lotion, I always opt for a nice bar soap or packet of bath salts. It's a way to experience the fragrance and essence of a new collection, yet keep your wallet happy!
So when I was offered the chance to review some products from one of my all-time-favorite bath and body brands, Thymes, as much as I wanted to request a bottle of the Agave Nectar Foaming Bath (which just won the Allure Best of Beauty 2011 Award for Best Bath Product), I opted for the bar soap:
Thymes Agave Nectar Bar Soap
(retail: $13, 7.0 oz)
Some may say that $13 for a bar of soap is a bit much (which I completely understand), but please note that the weight of this soap is 7 ounces, while the average bar soap you can find at the drugstore is around 4 ounces. So you're getting almost double the amount of a standard bar soap and, since this soap is triple-milled, it can last up to three times as long as a drugstore-level soap* (*this is my own personal experience; I have no scientific data to support this claim). So, value-wise, buying a higher-end soap can actually be a smart choice.
When it comes to indulgence, presentation plays a big role, and the presentation of this soap is just lovely:
When you slip Thymes Agave Nectar Bar Soap out of its box, you'll find that it comes wrapped in a layer of thin wax paper.
Just my luck, when I took this bar out of its packaging, it dropped on my hard tile floor which damaged it a bit. Anyway, you can still see the beautiful detail of this soap in these photos:
Once again, I wish that I had button I could install on this blog post that would provide you with smell-o-vision! If you like fresh, green, citrus fragrances that have a touch of sweetness to them, I think you will LOVE the fragrance of Agave Nectar. It's lush, it's tart, it's sweet and, for me, it's absolutely mouth-watering.
From the Thymes website:
Agave nectar, cocooned within the quenching agave plant, forms a warm, honeyed base note. Above, layers of ruby red grapefruit, delicate lemon blossom and tangy guava pulse with refreshing citrus, radiating a bright, cheerful optimism. And soothing aloe leaf and subtle crystalline musk deliver a clean, fresh finish.
A beautifully decorated soap to set by the sink or bath, yet formulated to delight your skin. Triple-milled for a creamy, moisturizing lather. Combines desert agave and glycerin, a natural humectant, to leave skin feeling soft and conditioned. As it cleanses, the rich, velvety lather blooms with quenching fragrance.
FINAL VERDICT: As with all of the other Thymes soaps I've used over the years (going back to the early 1990s), Agave Nectar provides me with a beautiful, creamy lather, and I find it gently cleanses my skin, leaving no odd residue behind. My skin feels so clean and soft when I use this soap, and I love to rub this bar into my wet bath pouf until I've got enough lather to cleanse my entire body. It's an indulgent bath experience that I highly recommend. I would also recommend this soap as a gift to others, or to put in your guest-bathroom soap dish. The presentation is beautiful, and one bar will last for a very long time. I've been using this soap just about every day for two weeks now and the size is just slightly smaller than the day I opened it.

Oh my gosh I LOVE Thymes! I worked in a boutique that sold their line and I bought a TON of stuff. Kimono Rose is my all time favorite! Agave Nectar came in second and they make a scent called Naia that is really lovely. I found that when it came to gift giving the women I gave Thymes stuff to, LOVED it! Their packaging and presentation are what sets them apart!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it smells heavenly! I love citrus based scents in the shower. I somehow associate "clean" to them. I've never tried Thymes though. I think I just might. Would you know if this is available in Canada? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job describing this & I am definitely going to pick this up. I just smelled Kimono Rose for the first time last week & am kicking myself for not picking it up!
