The Wednesday Question

I'm made it pretty clear in the past that my favorite type of eyeliner is the pencil liner and, more specifically, the automatic pencil. I just love the ease of application and the fact that automatic pencils never need sharpening (plus, most automatic liners are long-wear, which is even better). But now I'd like to know YOUR favorite type of liner, and why!

What's your favorite type of eyeliner, and why? Pencil, automatic pencil, gel, cream, liquid, cake or other?

I can't wait to read your responses!

  1. I, too, prefer pencil eyeliners. I have used liquid, cream and gel, and I always come back to pencil. It's softer, easier for me to apply and I just overall like it better.

  2. I love gel eyeliner. It's a little tricky to apply correctly, but using an angled eyeliner brush and perfecting your application, it seriously does not budge!

  3. I'm a huge fan of liquid eyeliner now. I didn't use to be, though, since I thought it was a hassle. Once I found a good one that I liked (ELF), I'm addicted. I just like the bold look of it.

  4. I'm a pencil fan myself, too. I also have some gel liners (BB and MAC), but hands-down reach for my pencils the most.

  5. automatic eye pencil-revlon colorstay is the one I use the most. But truthfully I have no real preference.

  6. I'm a pencil girl myself. I just find it easier to contol.

  7. I prefer automatic pencils, and I really like Revlon ColorStay!

  8. pencil because it's the quickest. gel liner when I want a nice clean line. my two faves.

  9. I prefer waterproof eyeliner pencils like New York Color, they last on my oily lids

  10. You would think I like pencils the best because I have tons! However, my favorite is a gel liner. It's the intensity that I love about it. And with a good brush, precision too.

  11. I like powder eyeshadow applied with an eyeliner brush. I feel that it looks more natural and I can get in between my lashes better.

  12. Pencils for sure! Especially Rimmel Exaggerate. Waterproof and has an attached sharpener for a real pointy point! I have run half marathons and this stuff still looked great!

  13. I prefer auto-pencils but really like the Urban Decay 24/7's that I have. I haven't figured out how to use liquid eyeliner well. I love the purple glittery LA Splash I have but how you "wing" out the liner?

  14. Gel eyeliner. With my oily lids, it's often the only thing that will stick to my upper lash line.

  15. If I am in a hurry, my go-to product is definitely an automatic pencil. But my favorite is gel liners, for control and for the fact they ususally last on my waterline! I also find it much easier to line my lower lashes with a brush+gel liner combo than a pencil. Right now I am loving Buxom and PF gel liners.

  16. i dont wear eyeliner usually, but if im going for a more natural look, i will probably just dip a wet liner brush into my eyeshadow.
however, if i actually want a lined look, im a fan of the semi-liquid liners not sure what the technical name is) that come in the form of a pen with a felt marker tip. all the fun of a liquid liner, but MUCH easier to apply!

  17. My favorite type of eyeliner is in regular pencil form. I for the life of me cannot do a decent line with a liquid eyeliner. I just bought the wet n wild gel eyeliner so I'll try my hand in that, but so far I'm loving lining my upper lash line with a kohl eyeliner. I find it mistake proof because you can smudge it out and still look good. =)

  18. When I have time I love cream eyeliners, when I'm in a hurry I love pencils and if I had to choose one type, then it's pencil :D x

  19. Years ago, my mom was addicted to Elizabeth Arden's perfume and would always buy the perfume sets that came with a free cosmetics bag with lots of travel size beauty products. One item she used to always hand over was the Elizabeth Arden Smooth Lining Eye Pencil in Kholberry. It was may all time fave! it was a deep instese black that made my eyes POP. Sadly this has been discontinued and I have been searching for one like it.

  20. Out of the few types I have tried (pencil, auto-pencil, liquid) I like the auto-pencil best. No sharpening! But next time I am out to buy eyeliner, I might try out a gel if it comes in a color I like.

  21. pencil! because it's fast and easy. It's easier to get off. Though I must admit i haven't used a gel, but again, I don't think that is so easy. With a pencil you just write it on.

  22. Pencil. Gel/cream is too much hassle for daily use, liquid too difficult (and so hard-edged; I prefer the softer edge of a pencil.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Liquid eyeliner pens are my favorite. I like that they are as easy to use as a pencil, but have the liquid eyeliner look.

  24. I go back and forth. Right now i am in a pencil phase but i love the staying power and intensity of gel. I usually only use liquid on my top lid.

  25. guerlain kohl! Followed by liquid liner.

  26. I love them all! I reach for auto pencils the most because they are the easiest, but I use liquid, gel, and eyeshadow on a wet angled brush as well. I like to change it up all the time.

  27. liquid liner or waterproof pencil for me :D

  28. I used to only use pencil (Revlon Colorstay!), but now I really like gel liners (Wet 'n Wild!). I like the intensity and retro cuteness of black gel liner on my upper lash line. But if I want to liner my lower lashes, it's always Revlon Colorstay's pencil, which is awesome. Rimmel Exaggerate is a good one too.

  29. My favorites are gel and liquid in a pen. A good liquid pen is very hard to find; I've spent a lot of money on some terrible ones. My favorite is the Jordana Fabuliner. When I have time I like to use gel. I love the Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Liner. It's a shame that Jane seems no more; I don't like any of the gel liners at the drugstore other than the Jane. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and spend more on gel liners in the future.

  30. Pencil is my go to. My favorite is the Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Rockstar, a purplish gray.

  31. Sooo my favorite is a gel liner, but I've been switching back to pencil since I found out about the magical world of Kohl! It stays put and its super black. Also love that it glides on so easily! It also helps when I moisturize my eyelid with my Yes to Cucumbers eye gel... :D

  32. Gel gel gel (with a small side of kohl powder).

Gel, with the right brush, lets me achieve the absolute thinnest line possible. Always my goal when using liner.

I love the L'Oreal HIP Kohl powder, though. I actually have every color but the black and brown. It's great for the waterline (does the top one, too), and the gold and teal are great for a pop of color on that inner bit. They're a bit messy for everyday use, though.

  33. I also prefer to use eyeshadow applied with an eyeliner brush, but for special occasions I'd use automatic pencil eyeliner.

  34. My favorites are definitely automatic - always so pigmented, don't drag, and twist up! I've been using one by CQ for a while now; I like it a lot and it was inexpensive! Hope I can find it again!

  35. Oh, geez, it depends. Most days I use a classic kohl liner with a wand or use a dark shadow as a liner. I'm too messy (asleep) in the mornings for precision.
I also like old-school cake liners and gels are the best invention ever because they are long wearing and less "harsh" than liquid.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I prefer pencil liners mostly because they are the most user friendly and the hardest to mess up (I am not very coordinated). I also like MAC's superslick liquid eyeliners and cream/gel eyeliners in general, but with those I usually end up getting a wonky line.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I prefer pencil liners and reach for those the most. I just have more control with them and are used to them. I can't say that I have a preference over regular or auto though since I'd say that I use them both equally, depends on the color I'm going for.

But I do like the look of liquid liners and the only ones I have are the pen type of those. It just takes me awhile to do it since I'm just learning and I mostly don't have the time for it.

  38. I love pencil liners for their ease, but I've never had one that goes on smoothly and doesn't smudge horribly and give me Uncle Fester eyes.

I ADORE gel liners because of their wearing power on my eyes and that I can make them look however I want, but they are definitely more time consuming.

  39. Pencil for everyday, gel/cream for going out!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'd say gel is my favorite type for everyday use to club use. I'm partial to Wet n Wild's gel liner and its only "TREE 99" as beatfacehoney on Youtube would say. hehe

  41. I like liquid liner (Lancome artliner) because of the precision of the line and no smearing. 2nd like gel, but get some smearing. 3rd is the HIP kohl but messy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My favorite is gel/cream liner, it stays the best on my eyes and is easier to apply than liquid. Lately though I've been liking pencil liners b/c it's really quick to apply.
