A very sad day for Sunsilk fans! I've just received word from Sunsilk's PR that Sunsilk will be discontinued in the US by the end of this year. The brand will still remain in the Unilever global portfolio (including Latin America, the Middle East and Asia). Until the end of the year, we will still be able to find Sunsilk at drugstore.com and at select Walmart stores.
I know that some of you have expressed your frustration to me recently because you haven't been able to locate your favorite Sunsilk products in stores. So I guess this explains why Sunsilk has become more difficult to find lately. I'm very sad to hear this news since I really enjoyed some of the products from the reformulated line that I reviewed here.
Are you sad about this news as well? Is there anything you're planning to stock up on before this brand disappears from US store shelves at the end of the year? I guess the only silver lining to all of this is that we'll probably see these products show up at Big Lots soon, for a very good price. So stock up while you can.
PS: Another good thing to come out of this: I hear that Unilever has some very exciting new things coming down the pipeline. Of course the minute I get more information, you know I'll share it with you!

Before Sunsilk came to the US, I had been able to purchase it in the body care aisles of Asian grocery stores. The packaging is labeled for sale in various Asian countries, but it is still Sunsilk nonetheless. Hope this helps anyone who might be searching for it later!
ReplyDeleteYa know, I've never tried any Sunsilk products. I guess that's a good thing now!
ReplyDeleteDoes this affect Canada as well? I've been looking at my local drug stores and it seems that they're not stocking Sunsilk at some of the drugstores. Personally I like Sunsilk version available in Asia, it's just better quality and so different from the North American formulation...
ReplyDeleteI was having trouble finding the products you reviewed! Since I never found them I guess it's good that I'm not too attached!
ReplyDeletei love Sunsilk ! you can still find their products at stores like Big Lots ! i guess i'll be visiting my local Asian markets to get a hold of these products now ! this is very sad news...
ReplyDeleteFOR CANADIANS:
ReplyDeleteI saw special packs of Sunsilk for $5 at Wal-Mart. It included the shampoo, conditioner and some hair sprits??
There were only two different packs & it was in green or yellow.
Never tried Sunsilk but I was tempted to... should I??
What a bummer! I love this stuff...
ReplyDeleteAhh well...another good one gone!
My sister and I are both color treated, very curly haired girls, and we use a multitude of products from this line. Everything from leave in conditioner, shampoo and conditioner, creme, spray etc...This will be a very sad seperation. I hope we can stockpile some of our favorites before they are gone.
ReplyDeleteAnother one who never tried Sunsilk, but will be looking for it at Big Lots to stock up for cheap. (I did read your glowing reviews, G!)
ReplyDeleteI was a huge fan of the old Hydra TLC 24/7 creme but since they reformulated I haven't tried. I guess I'll buy another bottle to stock up and try
ReplyDeleteI'm not sad to see it go. The reformulation is what I believe did them in for the USA market. The "original" version from 2006 was very different from the "co-creations" newer version. They reformulated so the smell wasn't the same, smaller bottles were much pricier and it forced me to look for better deals. I actually came across higher end salon products at Marshalls, 33oz bottles of Bain de Terre for about $8 per bottle. I got home and checked the manufacture date with the company listed on the bottle, the date of manufacture was 12/2010, basically brand new! I went back the next week after that and picked up another bottle of both shampoo and conditioner, same thing, same manufacture date, so now I have enough to last 6 months. My cousin did the same thing after I told her. Why buy overpriced Sunsilk if you can get better quality somewhere else and more for the money? I've also seen Giovanni, Rusk, Joico, Biosilk and Paul Coppola NY at Marshalls for very decent prices.
ReplyDeleteI bought a bunch on sale at my store back in the summer of 2009, 25-30 bottles, we just bought out a different pharmacy who had sunsilk. We were selling them for 96 cents each. I am just running low on conditioner, a few bottles of shampoo left. Decided to check it out, couldn't find it at Wal-Mart. Thought why not check on-line. Good to know.
