Review: CoverGirl Eye Enhancer in Aqua Paradise

Are you afraid of teal eyeshadow? I know a lot of people are, so when I had a coupon for a free CoverGirl eyeshadow single with purchase of a CG mascara (from the Sunday paper a while back) I decided it would be fun to buy Aqua Paradise and try to do a "subtle" look using teal. I haven't used a CG eyeshadow single in a while, so I also wanted to refresh my memory about how these shadows perform.

CoverGirl Eye Enhancer in Aqua Paradise
(retail: around $3)

As you can see, this shadow is on the sheer side. If you prefer a more pigmented look, I suggest using a primer beforehand (in the above swatch I used Jesse's Girl Eyeshadow Primer).  For my "subtle" teal look, I decided to skip primer for a more subdued wash of color.  In the below pics, Aqua Paradise is the only shadow I used on my eyes:

I think that, without a primer, this color gives a pretty, almost mermaid-y looks to the eyes. It's got a translucent, almost watery quality to it that I really like.  Unfortunately, the only issue I had using Aqua Paradise without a primer is that I did experience some creasing, which you can see in the second and third photos.  Also, I noticed that if I use the sponge-tip applicator, the consistency of this shadow is a tiny bit crumbly. However, if I use my regular eyeshadow brush, it's not crumbly at all.  No problems with fallout and I found blending very easy as well.

All in all, I think Aqua Paradise is a fun shade that would be a nice addition to your collection if you're looking for a pretty teal that's easily accessible (I don't think there's a drugstore in America that does not carry CoverGirl, right?). But I do think this shade works better with a primer.

Do you own any CG Eye Enhancers? What are some of your favorite shades?

  2. CG shadows are definitely fun to have for cheap thrill. I really like Tapestry Taupe from them :)

  3. I don't think I've ever had creasing from a CG eyeshadow. I also have oily lids, btw. My problem with them is fading. They all but disappear at the end of the day.

  4. I have a few CG singles, but the one I use on a regular basis is Golden Sunrise. I love it :)

  5. my very first eyeshadows were two CG singles i got after BEGGING my mother to let me. one was pale lilac and the other was gold, and then i also got a silver one which became my signature style (silver on the waterline, under the lashes, and on the lid. LOL. didn't look too bad on my teenybopper self with some mascara. hilarious though.)

this really suits you! i've been intrigued b/c this is one of their brighter singles and i have thought about getting it.

  6. Wow the Jesse's Girl eyeshadow primer really makes the colors more vibrant, my Rite Aid is always out of stock of it though
