The Wednesday Question

I expect to see a lot of varied responses to this week's question (hopefully!), so let's get right to it!

What is your holy grail eyebrow product?

In the past I've used everything from Smashbox Brow Tech to NYC Brow Powder, but I always, always find myself going back to Maybelline Expert Eyes Twin Brow & Eye Pencils (the old-school red pencils that come in packs of two). They're super cheap (around $2.50 for two pencils), "Blonde" is a great shade for my dark blonde/light brown hair, and they have fantastic staying power. In my dreams, I would probably purchase a case of Anastasia Brow Whiz (it's an ultra-fine point pencil that I reviewed for We Heart This and it is amazing) but sadly I just cannot currently afford to pay $20 + shipping per pencil, so it's back to Maybelline for moi!

So let's hear it! What's your favorite eyebrow product?

  1. I just recently discovered mine! It's the Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer in Blackened Brown/Taupe. Every brow pencil I'd tried had either been too auburn or too taupe for my dark brown hair, but this is the perfect charcoal brown. It's a tinted wax pencil so even though the color looks intense, it's easy to apply it lightly and my brows stay in place all day. The champagne colored highlighter side is great too, I use it on my lower waterline and it doesn't budge!

  2. This may sound crazy, but mine is hairspray. haha.. I don't like to use a pencil on mine because my brow color is so strange, and I can't ever find "eyebrow gel" to keep pesky hairs in place, so I use the ole' hairspray after every shape!

  3. I love the Maybelline brow powder, and Maybelline Great Lash mascara in clear. I mean, I guess any clear mascara would be fine, but that's the one I've always used. XD

  4. My favorite is ELF clear brow & eyelash mascara. It's a dollar and is dual sided, one end for lashes & one end for brows. I use them both for brows. To darken my eyebrows, I like the Maybelline twin pencils, too, in light brown.

  5. A tweezer keeps them shaped, a trimmer keeps them groomed and a touch of ELF clear brow gel keeps them in place and looking healthy. Easy, peasy!

  6. I'm going to agree with you and say the old school eyebrow pencil. They are cheap, portable and easy to use. I keep several on hand and never leave home without it because my eyebrows are sparse in areas and I never know when I may need a "fill in". :-)

  7. I love Rimmel's eyebrow pencil in Hazel - perfect color for me and only costs about $3.50.

  8. I like the dual-pan from ELF of wax and powder. The brush that comes with it is angled and perfect! It's from the ELF Studio Line and is an EXACT DUPE of the Sephora brand product (I have used both) except it is $3!

  9. I like the Maybelline Define a Brow pencil. Very thin and doesn't make my eyebrows look fake.

  10. Mine is Bare Minerals in Brunette. I know, I know, at $11 bucks it's not Nouveau Cheap worthy, but this is the best brow powder I've found and it LAST FOREVER. Plus, I can sometimes double it as a liner, added bonus!

  11. That would be my wonderful threading lady and a bit of water to keep them in place.

  12. Revlon's Colorstay Brow Enhancer in Light Brown/Champagne. It's the perfect color for my brows, and the highlighter complements my skin tone really well. And it's a wax formula, which keeps my brows properly groomed all day. I love this thing, and I've actually gone through two so far. I've never done that with another eyebrow pencil!

  13. DEFINITELY the Shu Uemura Brow Pencil!

  14. My HG brow product WAS English Ideas Brow Enhance, when it was in a pencil form. I bought it in Hawaii around 2003 and it is the absolute perfect color. I still have a nub! Unfortunately, they make it into a twist-up pencil, and the formula was hard, waxy, and impossible to apply! So then I moved on to MAC Brow Fix in Mink, which happens to be a limited edition color. They've come out with it twice so far, but why that shade is LE is beyond me, it seems really dumb to make a basic product in a good shade as a limited edition. Oh well, sorry for the ramble!

  15. I don't need eyebrow pencils because my brows are annoyingly thick. I don't like the look of cut brows so I use anastasia brow gel, but when I run out I'm just going to use regular hair gel with the anastasia brow gel brush.

  16. I just use a particular e/s. My brows are a weird color, and MAC Showstopper (which is a dark, dark, purply-brown) is a perfect match. Its a LE that comes and goes with many collections. I bought one in 2006, and hit pan on it recently, so I got it again when it just came out recently. I think its a decent deal considering I had the one for 4 years. ;-P

  18. maybelline's define-a-brow for me too (the lime green package). in light blonde, which makes my eyebrows look naturally defined, not drawn-in. i can't find another brand that has a color as light as "light blonde".

  19. A pair of tweezers (I think my current ones are Revlon?) and the occasional trim.

On the rare occasion that I've over plucked or trimmed I use Avon glimmersticks (I used dark grey and smudged pretty well, my eyebrows are a medium brownish) to fill in the gap and it worked just fine and stayed throughout the day. I know that they make brow specific glimmersticks though.

  20. Best ever (for me): MAC Impeccable Eyebrow Pencil in Taupe for the win!!

Best drugstore: Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer in Blackened Brown/ Taupe.

  21. Mine is Billion Dollar Brows powder in taupe. A close 2nd is the shu uemura hard pencil.

Never did find anything in the drugstore that worked well enough. They were all too red. I need a shade that is practically grey-brown. Some that looked "ok" turned out SUPER red in photos, which just looked awful. :(

  22. Oh! I forgot a couple things...

for brow gel, nothing beats anastasia's. But it's over $20 FOR A FREAKING BROW GEL. No way!!!! So if that's not around (I hoard sample tubes lol) I use maybelline great lash. It's harder and harder to find clear mascara these days, so I'm glad that one's still around.

Aaand...ELF tweezers are the best. Except they changed them!! The ones pictured aren't the ones you get. I recently ordered a 4th pair and they had changed the shape to make them more 'ergonomic' and guess what? They aren't as good! I am SO pissed about it!

  23. my brow hairs are very sparse, but the hairs are fairly dark and long. so i don't do much plucking other than stray hairs at the bottom, but i do trim them every once in a while. i like the look of heavy brows so i usually use whatever cheap clear mascara i can find and then, once that dries, i fill them in with a cheapy, no-name brown/black duo eyebrow powder i got here in china. works pretty well. before i moved here i used this l'oreal pencil that i got on clearance, which i quite liked. it had a pencil on one end and a pointy sponge with powder on the other. and a brush on the cap.

  24. My MAC brow brush and a good waxing!

  25. I don't really use eyebrow products. When I want to fill my brows, I use eyeshadow or eye pencil. I like to use Maybelline Great Lash Clear as an eyebrow gel!
