Review: Wet n Wild Mega Slicks Lip Color Retractable Pencil

Let me preface this by saying that I would have never even known about this new lip product if it weren't for Leigh's review on The Cheapest Girl Around. So thanks, Leigh, for the info!

Now, according to the Wet n Wild website, this product is a gloss/liner/lipstick hybrid and comes in three shades. Oddly enough, my Rite-Aid had at least 6 shades, including the shade I purchased, which isn't on the website. I would tell you the name if I could remember it, but it was only printed on the seal which I threw away yesterday. I know it had the word "peach" in it. Oh, the product # is 675A. Whew!

Anyway, here's some pics with a swatch. As you can see, it's a light peachy-melon shimmer.

This product has a base that you can swivel, which turns the product up (like a lipstick). What I LOVE is that you get the precision of a pencil but it never needs sharpening (BTW, I love it when eyeliners are designed this way, as in the Revlon ColorStay liners). I don't know about you, but I already have so many products I need to sharpen--I don't want to keep a sharpener in my purse for my lip product as well.

Also, I love love love the consistency! It applies like a balm (sheer and smooth) but the color's buildable and it ultimately ends up feeling like a lipstick on your lips (but not heavy like a matte lipstick). Also, there is no flavor or scent and it's not drying at all. Because it's a pencil you can easily line your lips with it as well. The only thing I'm not really picking up on is how this is supposed to be part gloss. I don't get any of the elements of a gloss in this product (and it definitely doesn't have the shine factor of a gloss). To me, it's more of a balm/lipstick/liner hybrid. But hey, that totally works for me, especially given the fact that it set me back a whopping $2.

Here's a "before" pic of my lips with no product:
And here's my lips after applying "675A":

As you can see, the color is sheer but there's definitely shimmer there (even more shimmer in person).

Final Analysis: I am quickly falling in love with this little pencil and now I want one in every color. The staying power, the ease of use, the precision, the texture and the color are all fantastic. Definitely worth two bucks!

  2. Exactly! The peach one that I bought was the only color remaining in the display at my Rite-Aid (aside from a very dark brownish-red) so I guess the girls in my area love it too! :)

  3. I think Mark makes a similar product, the mini Mark It stick. You do have to sharpen it but the lasting power is great, its light on the lips, doesn't smear like somee gloss and comes in great colors. I have berry and pink. I like the pink the best as it give shimmer without 'FROST!'. Dig. Worth trying if they go on sale. Sometimes there's a buy one, get one.

  6. Hi minishoes1! I believe that since I wrote this review back in June, WnW has discontinued this product. :( But if you can find some on clearance, definitely pick 'em up because they're fab. :)
