Pantone 2016 Colors of the Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity
For the first time ever, Pantone has select TWO shades for their annual Color of the Year, and let's just say that if you like light pink and light blue, 2016 is going to be your year!
From ABCnews.com:
And the Pantone color of the year for 2016 is ... serenity. And rose quartz.
That’s right. The shade color experts who have every year picked one color that they believe will be reflected in the following year’s fashion, home décor and design have departed from tradition to predict that the blending of the two colors – the delicate pink rose quartz and the soft blue of the serenity -- will dominate next year.
In a news release today, Pantone explained that the combination echoed a growing trend of challenging traditional perceptions about color association.
“In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in the release.
“This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumers’ increased comfort with using color as a form of expression which includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”
Expect the onslaught of light pink and light blue blushes, lipsticks, eyeshadows, nail colors and everything else that usually gets tied to the Pantone Color of the Year, because it's coming. Oh, it's coming!
Thoughts about Pantone's picks this year?
Okay, I'm cool with these colors. My blue eyes and pale skin are quite happy :D
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'm down with cool pink and cool pale blue, as I'm pale skinned and blue eyes. So Can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteRose Quartz should make a nice summer lipstick.
ReplyDeleteMost of these shades will probably look reeeally weird on my warm-undertone medium-skintone skin smh.
ReplyDeletebit too pastel-y for me, but I guess it is a change after some very vivid and intense shades recently.
ReplyDeletewill see how it actually shows in the stores
Pink and blue represents a gender blur? Lol
ReplyDeleteYeah, I thought Yellow was a gender blur.
DeleteRight?!? This looks like every newborns room I've ever seen.
DeleteIt's nice to see a lighter color(s) represented. It's good to change things up. I'm looking forward to seeing how they interpret these in the products.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too surprised considering how there has been an obsession with pastel for a long time now. Pastel has been all the rage in the teen to young adult crowd. Pastel hair. Pastel themed blogs. Pastel goth too lol.
ReplyDeleteOoooh I can't wait to see what palette Sephora comes out with!!
ReplyDeleteSpoiler pictures are already floating around. The eye shadow palette looks like an odd mix to me -- many pastels, of course, lots of blue. Very little pink, which surprised me.
DeleteBut hooray for a new palette that is NOT twenty shades of clay brown!!
Reminds me a little of the mid 80's when pastels were super big!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Not sure I can rock these colors but they are pretty regardless.
Reminds me of Cotton Candy lol
ReplyDeleteWhoa Nelly, way back time machine! I saw these and thought Daisy Kingdom Honey Bunny. Google it and you'll see what I mean. These colors with my warm olive toned skin is no bueno.
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the fair skinned blue eyed blonde group! I am excited for this! This blue looks like what I always referred to and Periwinkle which is a really close to my eye color. I am looking forward to fashions in this color as well as makeup because my eyes POP when I wear it!!! I'm excited!
ReplyDeleteEwwww...looks like the worst of the eighties to me. And yeah, another olive undertone here, so these colors look ghastly on me. I hope you fair skinned blonds have fun!
ReplyDelete2014 was the best color ever! Love, love Radiant Orchid.
ReplyDeleteThat at the teal color, I forget the year.
Delete2016 is gonna be a pass for me, both colors make me look dead. Bleh. Good for my wallet though since I plan on doing a low/no buy as long as possible. If its the Year of Pastels I will be safe though lol!
Ohhh...boo. I'm not lovin' them.
ReplyDeletethey should have picked griege - or all shades of griege - or a griege rose quartz and griege serenity because lets face it that is the color scheme of the next year.
