Pantone Color of the Year 2015: Marsala
The Wall Street Journal confirmed today that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2015 is 18-1438 Marsala.
What does this mean for you and me? I think you know! We should brace ourselves now for the onslaught of Marsala-hued lip colors, nail colors, blushes, eyeliners, eyeshadows and probably even mascaras that will no doubt hit both department store counters and drugstores alike in 2015. If you like this color, then you'll find no shortage of makeup options in the coming year. If you don't like this color...better luck in 2016!
Share your thoughts about Marsala in the comments below. Do you like this shade when it comes to beauty? How about fashion or home decor?
I must admit, I'm not a fan of this color. It just reminds me of my great-grandmother...
ReplyDeleteSigh. After seeing this, I'm going to miss Radiant Orchid even more.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of mauve and dusty rose tones. Luckily for me, I have a ton of lipsticks and nail polishes in this color. It makes me think antiques and vintage which are things i love!
ReplyDeleteI agree! It looks very mauve/dusty rose. I will admit Radiant Orchid was my favorite Color of the Year, and want to snatch up anything and everything in that shade.
DeleteI don't know if they can do a lot with this color of the year, since there are many permanent shades of this similar color.
I don't think I would like this color for clothing, but I have a similar shade lip gloss and it looks really good on me, so I'm excited for more lip color options.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. What's the word I'm looking for? "Yuck" aka "The 1983 PTA meeting called and said all the moms should wear this color."
ReplyDelete(But thanks for the news!)
Lmao!!! The yr before last my hair was a lighter version of the color of the yr (emerald) and this yr my hair was varied shades of radiant orchid, sometimes cooler, others warmer. This happened totally by coincedence and when I noticed I said that meybe I should take a chance on whatever the 2015 Pantone shade will be and go there with my hair...now I'm not so sure. Kind of reminds me of the Revlon lipgloss (colorburst, I think) in Sunbaked...I did love that colour!
DeleteYour comment made me laugh! Hopefully Sephora can put a modern spin on it ;)
DeleteI wouldn't mind this shade on lipsticks, but I think there are already lipstick shades that are pretty close to this. This wouldn't be too bad in home decors as well, but personally, I think this would be better with just a touch of this color in accent pieces and not really overwhelm the whole room. :)
ReplyDeleteUh oh. I'm in trouble when the Sephora + Pantone Universe collection comes out!
ReplyDeleteI am really excited for this! Lipsticks and shadows and blush will be so pretty in this shade, and maybe a cardigan or pair of tights, too!
ReplyDeleteI like this color but I'm kinda already sick of it/over it.
ReplyDeleteI loooooooove this color! What wonderful news! Radiant orchid was definitely not my thing, but I'm excited to start saving up money for all the things that marsala will inspire.
ReplyDeleteTotally looks like the nail polish colour that everyone was calling "granny nails" a few yrs back, right?! Lol
ReplyDeleteyay it's more wearable, boo it's kind of boring? emerald is still my favorite
ReplyDeleteFor blushes and lipsticks I think this color is pretty but for clothes? Not on my crazy pale skin. Maybe its just me but all of these color of the years seem to really only show up in cosmetics? I don't really remember seeing a whole lot of radiant orchid clothing or accessories or emerald (which I was very much hoping for).
ReplyDeleteIt's more for cosmetics and home décor (like paint).
DeleteJust...ugh.
ReplyDeleteI kinda like it. I think it's something a little different and unexpected, especially for Spring, but imagine this color on tan skin for Summer. And then it'll transition nicely into Fall/Winter. So yeah, the more I think about it, I'm on board. Can't wait to see what Sephora does with this...
ReplyDeleteI agree about this being beautiful during the summer months, and into fall/winter. Spring, not so much. It will be interesting to see what the makeup world will do with it.
DeleteI don't know. I think I could even see people pairing it with a light pink or green for spring. Heck, I could see someone pairing it with sky or baby blue to kinda mimic the dark brown & pastels look that was in several years ago, but with a lighter, pink-toned "brown".
DeleteWhat a drab and boring color. Who chooses the color of the year....little old ladies in pantsuits? We need something bright and cheerful. I won't be wearing the color of the year in 2015. =/
ReplyDeleteI personally really like the color, especially since last year's didn't flatter my skintone at all. This color eyeshadow would look so nice with blue eyes!
ReplyDeleteMe too!!
DeleteI haven't decided how I feel about this color yet. I loved the Radiant Orchid. This color reminds me of that "1995" lipstick by Jaclyn Hill, can't remember the brand. It may be an ok lip color but I don't see myself stocking up on everything "Marsala!"
ReplyDeleteGerard Cosmetics
DeleteMaybelline matte touch of spice? :)
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a lot like Touch of Spice! Today coincidentally I am wearing the Revlon Colorburt Matte Balm in "Sultry" and it is VERY similar to this. I would LOVE an eyeliner in this shade. Otherwise I do think it's pretty and will make for some nice lip/eye shades.
DeleteI don't have this color in clothing but I have been leaning towards it in nail polish purchases lately. I bought Zoya Perrie for the Radiant Orchid trend and haven't worn it yet. I'll prob wear Marsala next year! Lol
ReplyDeleteI was not very into Radiant Orchid, but I am seriously digging this color for some reason! Since it has all been about 90s revival, maybe this is a great thing! I could see myself wearing shades of this color in shoes, bags, lipsticks and eyeshadows!!
ReplyDeleteI am even digging it for home decor, it would look gorgeous as the color for our dining room!
Oooooo, bag and shoes?...yesssss! :D
DeleteThis is a very pretty color and I like that it is neutral. I hope the color of the year next year is a cobalt blue though.
ReplyDeleteFunny you say cobalt, that was my hunch on what the next colour would be...wayyyy off huh? Haha
DeleteI like it. Better than radiant orchid.
ReplyDeleteMy go to wet n wild lip stain is this color. Rico mauve. This is a neutral color for me. We'll see what products start coming out.
ReplyDeleteNooooo, not feeling it. :(
ReplyDeleteIt's a little darker than the "Kylie Jenner" lip that everyone is trying to recreate. I've got tons of this color is my lippie stash already...looks like I'll be adding to it. I can't wait to see the Sephora/Pantone collabo.
ReplyDeleteLips - yes
ReplyDeleteEyes - meh
Cheeks - To each their own
Nails - been there going elsewhere
Hair - low lights?
Accessories - yes please
Shoes - sure
Swimwear - oooooh exciting
This is right up my alley when it comes to makeup. It's wearable on eyes, cheeks, and lips. Not so much for clothes, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm a nude lip kinda girl. I like the natural look. I think this is going to fit the bill. I agree that it's kinda "plain jane" but I think I might actually enjoy this one. We'll see what Sephora does with it!!
ReplyDeleteAnother color I won't be able (or want) to wear. Looks like one I have by Sinful Colors... Pandora? Looks great in the bottle, on my hands looks horrible :(
ReplyDeleteI like this, it reminds me of a lipstick I had years ago called Tropical Punch , it was a L'Oreal Shine Delice shade and I think I went thru 3 tubes of it! Super flattering for my coloring, and lots of others too, all those missing radiant orchid, DON'T! That shade was awful, IT wore YOU which is not a good look.
ReplyDeleteJust when I thougt the kylie jenner/90s lip color trend was starting to die down a little bit...
ReplyDeleteAlmost like a cop-out on Pantone's part by jut picking a color that was pretty much already on tren isn't it?
OMG I love it!! Yay I'm soooo very excited for the colors to come! :D (And I can wear it! I couldn't wear this year's mauve).
ReplyDeleteNot mauve-> orchid, sorry
ReplyDeleteYawn.... Already have much in this shade or near enough, looks like MLBB to me no matter what name they give it. At least I can wear this one, orchid and emerald not so much, nails excluded :) but on the wow meter, meh.
ReplyDeleteSo basically they took the Kylie Jenner lip and ran with it eh. I'm gonna pass on this color.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great color for blush.....and that's about it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this color! Very reminiscent of Gerard Cosmetics' 1995, which I love for the color and the name (I graduated HS in 95.). :) Takes me back. Now I'm in the mood for some 90's R&B. :)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a fan of tangerine or the orchid of years past, so I like what this might bring. If it means I'll see more lipsticks that look like Burt's Bees' Redwood Forest lip crayon and stuff that's kind of brick red or red-brown, I'm all for it. That exact swatch isn't super appealing to me, but with a few slight tweaks it has potential.
ReplyDeleteI don't see mauve(the definition of it, french origen, light grayish pinky purple), but it does look like my kind of color though I prefer it more sheer or lighter.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad to see how many people here are not thrilled about this color.
ReplyDeleteI think Marsala is gorgeous! I already have a favorite eye shadow in this shade, and I will welcome other make up products that were sure to see in Pantone's 2015 choice!
The closest nail color I've come up with to this so far is I Knead Sourdough from OPI's San Francisco collection. I compared it to Pantone's swatch and I was surprised at how close it was!
ReplyDeleteI am not generally a neutrals person but I kind of like this. It's something different, after several consecutive years of very bright colors.
I'm not sure about wearing clothing in that color....I think I have a lipstick or two (and maybe even an eyeshadow) in that shade. It's one of those colors that you look at and aren't sure what color it really is. Could it be a dark pink? Or, Is that a light mauve? Might one say it is a pink-tone taupe? Can you call that a red-toned clay? What about faded brick? Beats me! I'm glad someone gave the color an interesting name.
ReplyDeleteObviously a shade chosen by the "younger folk". I remember wearing it to death in the 70's! Oops...telling my age. This color will add years to anyone over 35...so I'll happily decline.
