Review & Swatches: Wet n Wild Summer 2013 Limited Edition Pop Art Craze Coloricon Eye Shadow Trio Collection

For those who don't know, I'm a Wet n Wild Beauty Ambassador and I was recently sent the much-anticipated Wet n Wild Summer 2013 Limited Edition Pop Art Craze eyeshadow trios for review. So today I'd like to show you swatches and give you my take on each palette.

This collection (along with the limited edition Wild Shine nail colors) will be popping up in drugstores starting in July. I will create an interactive sightings map as soon as we get our first sighting, so hopefully that will help you in your quest to find these!

Wet n Wild Summer 2013 Limited Edition Pop Art Craze Coloricon Eye Shadow Trio Collection
(retail: $2.99 each, 0.12 oz)

Let's start with the back of the trios (it's the same for all six):

There are six trios in this collection, so I'll start with the lowest number (34164) and work my way up:

 Your 15 Minutes Aren't Up!

The photos of the palette above make it look like the yellow shade is more of a buttery yellow, but in real life it's much closer to the swatch you see above--a bright, canary yellow. I would consider both the yellow and mauvey-pink shades to be satin finishes (the sheen is very subtle) whereas the purple shade is more of a true matte. All three shadows in this palette have a soft texture. The pink shade is the most pigmented, whereas the yellow and purple shades are a little less pigmented and may require a second pass to beef up the intensity.

A Regular at the Factory

The orange in this palette is ORANGE and not coral (sorry it's deceptive in the palette photos). On the skin, it's a pumpkin orange with no coral undertones at all. The yellow shade is the buttery yellow in this collection (versus the yellow in Your 15 Minutes Aren't Up!, which is more of a canary yellow) and it's the only shade that has shimmer and sparkle to it in this collection. The teal shade is a matte and the orange shade has some subtle shimmer to it. The teal and orange shades have very good pigmentation and the texture is very good as well (not too soft and not too hard). The yellow shade is a bit sheer and works best as a highlighter. This trio is actually my favorite of the entire collection.

Here's a quick eye look I created using just the colors in the A Regular at the Factory trio:

For this look I applied my Wet n Wild Fergie primer and then with the SPONGE APPLICATOR that comes with this trio, I applied the teal shade to my crease. It's important to note that you get the best vibrancy with these matte colors if you apply them with a sponge applicator versus a brush. And it's best to pack them one (instead of brushing them on in a back and forth motion) to avoid them becoming muddy. After I applied the teal, I went in with my eyeshadow brush and applied the orange shade to my crease and then added a bit more teal to my outer "v." Lastly, I took a fluffy blender brush and applied the yellow shade to my brow bone and blended it down a bit into my crease (which made the orange shade look more sparkly). Oh, and I applied a tiny bit of the orange to my lower lash line, using just the tip of the sponge applicator.

Hard Being the It Girl

All three of these shades are  mattes (the way the light hits my swatches makes them look like they have some soft sheen to them, but to the naked eye they read as mattes). The texture of all three shades is soft and they do produce a little bit of fallout in the pan due to their powdery nature. The blue shade is a little less soft than the pink and beige shades, but it's still easy to pick up color and the pigmentation great. The pink and cream shades have good pigmentation but the cream is so close to the color of my skin that you can barely see it in my swatches. Also, the color of the cream shade in my palette photos is off--it's much closer to my swatch photo (no pink undertones).

Three's A Party

Again, don't let my palettes photos fool you! The red in this trio is a true red without any pink undertones and  it looks just like what you see in my swatch photo above. All three shadows in this trio are true mattes and I think this color combination is a great tribute to the iconic Andy Warhol Campbell's Soup Cans. The texture of shadows in this trio is very good (not too hard, not too soft) and the pigmentation is very good as well. If you don't already have a true red shadow in your collection, this would be a nice one to grab.

 I'm Seeing Triples!

Swatched over Wet n Wild Fergie Take On The Day Eyeshadow Primer:

All three shades in this palette are mattes (again, it may look like there's some shimmer/sheen in my swatch pics but to the naked eye they read as true mattes). The green and mauvey-grape shades have a soft texture but the blue shade in this palette is bit more stiff. The pigmentation is decent on all three shades but may require a bit of building depending on what primer you use (and I would definitely suggesting using the sponge-tip applicator to apply these color for optimal vibrancy--blend lightly with a fluffy brush after you apply with the sponge applicator). I just love the color combo of this palette--it's so tropical, isn't it?

To Muse and Carouse

The peach and baby blue shades in this trio are true mattes and have a bit of a chalky consistency. They're also less pigmented than the brown shade. The brown shade is essentially a matte but it does have a subtle sheen to it--it's very nicely pigmented and it's a lovely, rich shade of brown. The consistency of the peach and blue shades is good (not too hard or soft) but the brown shade is the best (in my opinion).

FINAL VERDICT: For all practical purposes, I would call this a matte collection. There are some shades that have a satin-matte finish and one shade that has some shimmer and sparkle to it but that's it. So if you love your mattes, you're probably going to enjoy this collection quite a bit. If you are a shimmer lover, I would look to the core line of Wet n Wild eyeshadow trios for your shimmer fix since there are plenty of them there. The Pop Art Craze collection is everything a limited edition collection should be (in my humble opinion) because it's not just a retread of the permanent shades. There are some fun, new colors here and, considering that so many of you have been asking for more bright, matte shades, I think Wet n Wild gave us exactly what we wanted. There are some shades that have a powdery, soft texture, and one or two that are a bit on the stiff side but, on the whole, there is at least one shade in each palette that justifies a purchase (especially at $2.99 per trio). Because of the matte nature of these trios, I would definitely recommend wearing these shadows over primer (the Wet n Wild Fergie pimer works beautifully with them). Also, to obtain the highest level of vibrancy, apply the bold shades with the sponge-tip applicator that comes with the trio. Be sure to pat the color on (versus swiping in a back and forth motion) to avoid the color becoming muddy. This collection is a winner if you love your brights (and mattes) and I think you'll have a lot of fun with any of these trios. If you can only get one, my pick would be A Regular at the Factory because that teal shade (and the orange) are quite stunning in person.

Just a reminder, the Wet n Wild Summer 2013 Limited Edition Pop Art Craze Collection is due to hit drugstores in July (this goes for the shadows as well as the nail polishes). I'll be sure to create an interactive sightings map to help all of us locate these next month!

  8. A Regular At The Factory caught my eye before (no pun intended) and now I know its a definate. I also love I'm Seeing Triples, worth it for the acid green/yellow. Btw- To Muse And Carouse kinda reminds me of the Tarte Waterlillies. Hope to see these soon.

  17. Between these and the 2013 Fergie limited edition shadows, it's just too much temptation!

  18. The palettes look great and I'll look for these but I'm kinda annoyed at so much blue in the majority of the palettes. They should have just done two 8-pan rainbow palettes

  19. Though I have barely a shot in hell of ever locating these I would like to have To Muse and Carouse. My eye lids are little on crepe-y side (thanks aging) and I feel that shimmery shades really highlight that fact. As much as I love me som shimmer and shine, I think a matte is the way to go for me. If anyone out there has any tips on de-emphasising that crepe-y-ness I would love to know! :)

    1. I don't have much crepey-ness YET but I've noticed that lighter shades can sometimes bring it out a bit. So maybe try some medium-toned shades? Like the medium brown Milani Shadow Eyez (the LE one)? Do you find cremes are more forgiving than powders?

    1. Problem with the Limited Edition ones..is that they are always so limited that the drugstores only get a few of each palette ( basically one display) and when they are all gone...SOLD OUT. Good luck finding them!! I am on the hunt now..:))

  23. I'm glad none of these really appeal to me. Thank goodness, because most LE WnW collections are impossible to find around here.

  28. I so want every one of these! Can't wait for the map, they are so helpful. If you wouldn't have made one for the Spring WNW palettes, I never would have found them!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm kind of Warhol obsessed. I have a poster of a quote by him in my room and a calendar. So I cannot wait to get my hands on all of these. Must have asap!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Did WNW mention where these are going to be sold perhaps? Like, are they going to be exclusive to Walgreens like some of the other palettes, or will they be coming to CVS, Meijer, Wal-Mart, etc? I found the WNW Spring Forward palettes at my local Meijer, which was kind of unexpected. I'm asking because I really don't want to miss these - sigh - unfortunately it means driving around a lot. Haha.

  31. Anyone see these, yet? I've been checking CVS, Rite Aid, & Walgreens in Ohio/West Virginia/Kentucky, but haven't seen anything.

  32. I haven't found them anywhere either. Hope I do, I want them all.

  33. Has anyone seen them yet? I was waiting on the map so that I could dispatch my friends and relatives. :)

  37. Found these and the polishes at Walgreens in Austin. :)They are beautiful. Wnw does a great job again. Good luck on your hunt ladies....

  38. Found these at Duane Reade today by Union Turnpike (same place I originally found the spring palettes). I'm shocked because usually we get stuff late here (so it seems to me), and with Wet N Wild we usually don't get LE's at all. But yeah, I found a display with all of the trios, and I purchased 3!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Found at Walgreens in Murfreesboro TN. Employee said she had just put out the display about an hour before

    ReplyDelete
  40. I found these at the rite aid on capitol e. way in san jose! I managed to get 5 of these and 2 of spring ones. They only have 2 left! The pop ones they only have 2 of the 6 left. Good luck everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Found these at Kmart...buy 2, get 1 free (that price is on the display).

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just pick up five out of the six in this collection. I noticed that someone found them in the Glendale Rite Aid, so I went and they had a few left and I bought them. I am so happy with the swatches can't wait to do an eye make up look. Also, I picked up the last few trios on the display at the Glendale Rite Aid.

  43. I just read your full description, not skimmed through it like before.. I have 5 out of 6 and didn't know what to think.. i was on the fence with them... because I love one or two shades in each palette, some were powdery and I didn't read the part where you suggested to use the sponge tip applicator so it wont become muddy.. that changes everything!! It was disappointing because I swiped back and fourth with a reg. shadow brush and the colors were muddy but now! i love them! thank you for your tips and suggestions.

  44. Is it only my Walgreens that increased these palettes prices?? I got one of this palette, and my walgreen charge $3.29 rather than $2.99 even when the stand said $2.99. I know that it is not a lot more, but I was kinda mad when they did that. I did not complain because these are lE, and I just want to get my hand on one. WnW at Walgreens near my place are jacking up the price. Eventhough only like 30 cent more, I still prefer the original price.

    ReplyDelete
  45. those colors are amazing, i wonder where can i find those in online store because in my country wet n' wild just offer 3 kind of pallet. i will be so happy if i can try another color like yours.
