Free Limited Edition Essie Polish (for a great cause)!

I'm sure a lot of us remember when, last year, Essie and Toms joined forces for the "One Day Without Shoes" campaign. Many Nouveau Cheap readers were able to get a free bottle of Essie polish during that campaign and raise awareness for an important cause, so I'm delighted to tell you that IT'S BACK!

The campaign started TODAY (March 7th) and every day for 15 days, Essie and Toms will give away 1,000 bottles of the limited edition shade Barefoot in Blue (creamy sky blue) in order to raise awareness of the millions of children at risk for disease and infection as they grow up without shoes.

Please read the following press release for all the details and how to sign up:

Essie Joins Tom's 'One Day Without Shoes' Campaign

2012-03-07 | 09:08

Essie is joining forces again with Toms on April 10 to support One Day Without Shoes, the shoe maker’s global campaign to raise awareness of the millions of children at risk for disease and infection as they grow up without shoes.

This year, a special limited edition nail color, essie Barefoot in Blue, has been designed to encourage people to go barefoot with can't-miss toes.

Beginning today, Essie and Toms will host a Free giveaway of 15,000 bottles of nail polish!Every day for 15 days, 1,000 people who sign up for the giveaway will receive a complimentary bottle of Essie's Barefoot in Blue (creamy, sky blue). To make a pledge and receive Essie's Barefoot in Blue, consumers can visit the Toms Facebook page or Essie Facebook page.

"We are thrilled to partner with Toms again to support One Day Without Shoes," said Essie Weingarten, founder and creative director of Essie Cosmetics. "We wanted to come up with something that would really spark conversation and bring attention to the campaign – a new rally cry for an important cause.”

Founded by American traveler Blake Mycoskie, Toms was created in 2006 when Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina who lacked proper footwear. Wanting to help protect their feet, he founded the company, which for every pair of shoes purchased gives a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One.In 2008, One Day Without Shoeswas founded to spread the word, and in 2011, over a quarter of a million people went without shoes to show their support, with more than 1,000 barefoot events taking place globally.

"We are excited to work with essie again this year," said Mycoskie. "This movement is about raising awareness and asking people to do something – anything – without shoes. We love that essie is helping us do that in such a fun, new way."

  1. I appreciate what TOMS is trying to do, but I went to return a pair of their shoes that was defective, the stitches were off, and the sales person actually guilted me, saying if I returned them, I'd be taking a pair away from a needy child. I'm sad to say I haven't purchased from them since...

    1. Stephanie, you should not have let that saleswoman guilt you. She was obviously doing it so the company wouldn't lose money and you have every right to return something defective. I think this is a great cause, I definitely signed up and hope I win a bottle! :)

    2. No way. It's not like you return the shoes and the kid's pair is yanked off of their feet! Toms just takes a hit on one pair of shoes...that's it!

Don't let that silly salesperson prevent you from buying Toms.

  2. their press release is misleading when you go an read the actual rules of the sweepstakes its not the 1st 1000 per day its "15,000 winners will be selected by random drawing beginning on March 23, 2012, as the winners from among all eligible entries received." then it goes on to say "the selected Grand Prize winners will be notified via e-mail on or about March 23, 2012. If a selected winner cannot be reached by e-mail within three (3) business days of Sponsor’s first attempt to notify such winner, such winner may be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected from the remaining eligible entries by random drawing."

  3. This is such a good cause! Last year (being a young teenager)I thought I would get sick if I went all day barefoot because in Wisconsin it is still very cold, but I've matured a lot since then and this year I'm going to do it! I'm kinda excited too(: Also I really do like this blog a lot! Thanks for putting sooo much time into this for us. ~Maria

  4. The thing I hate about these giveaways is that you have to be a Facebook user to participate. I choose to live my life Facebook-free. I wish there was some alternate way to enter. :(

  5. What a great cause! I wonder if they are aware of musician Michael Franti, who goes barefoot all the time to raise awareness for the same cause. Having visited Mexico numerous times, I'm sad to say that poverty and lack of footwear is an all too real problem. :(
