Just a few weeks ago on Twitter, I was expressing my sadness that, with all the new 2012 drugstore beauty releases, there was no brand releasing a drugstore version of BB cream. And then yesterday, reader Christine let me know that there actually IS a US drugstore brand releasing a BB cream, and it's already LANDED at Walgreens!
For those unfamiliar with BB creams, they are extremely popular in Asia (I believe they originated in South Korea) and there are some higher-end beauty brands in the US that make them, but I have NEVER seen one at the drugstore--until now!
NOTE: for more information on BB creams, please click here. In a nutshell, they're an all-in-one product that can take the place of a moisturizer, primer, concealer and foundation (not always, but there are some that claim to do this).
A huge thanks to Christine for this sighting:

Garnier's BB cream comes in two different shades: Light/Medium and Medium/Deep. Note the $1 off tear-pad coupons on this display.

Christine purchased the Light/Medium shade and was nice enough to includes some close-ups of the packaging:

This product contains SPF15 with UVA/UVB protection.
"Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream"
"Instantly renews, brightens, evens, hydrates"
"Vitamin C + Mineral Pigments"
Thanks SO much, Christine, for the fantastic scoop and pics. You totally made my day!
BB cream fans: are you excited to have a DRUGSTORE option coming your way soon? If you're like me and have been wanting to try a BB cream, are you excited that Garnier has released one in the US? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I've always used SKIN79 and MISSHA BB cream and like them. I can't wait to try out this US brand to see which one is better!
ReplyDeleteI am SO excited for this! I heard great things about this one and I've been dying to try one. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see you say you were looking for it or I would have commented that I saw it last week at Walgreens! I glanced and walked right past it because I use the Skin79 Triple Solutions BB Cream. I am so glad that you can get it now!
ReplyDeleteBB creams are not very good for warmer weather tho but in the winter it is nice because they tend to be very thick. I'm Asian and have been using them forever ago...they really even out the skin tone and uneven surface...but the only bad thing about it that keep me from using them regularly is the fact that it can look like grayish overcast on some skin tones. Plus avoid them if you know you're gonna get pictures taken that day. They don't look flattering in photos.
ReplyDeleteSO SO excited for this. Last summer, I had used Boscia's BB cream and loved it, but I do not want to spend $40 for another tube. This is awesome news.
ReplyDeleteI am SO excited about this! I've wanted to try a BB cream, but without the BB cream pricetag. I'll be hunting this down for sure!
ReplyDeleteBB's will be the "it" thing for 2012, don't you think? Well, one of the "it" things, anyway. I know Maybelline has had one out for a while in Japan I think it was that I read, so hopefully they, L'Oreal and Revlon will jump on board with some for the U.S. market. Estee Lauder is coming out with one in January too, though not drugstore priced, I do like EL skincare. Happy Holidays to you!
ReplyDeleteBeen wanting to try this thanks for the heads up :)
ReplyDeleteGarnier BB cream is available on feelunique.com.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great product! I wish there was a "fair" color option...I have a feeling light/medium will be too dark for me. Oh well, maybe another drugstore brand will make a fair BB Cream!
ReplyDeletei ran to my walgreens like 5min ago and picked this up in the medium/deep shade. it blends into my skin perfectly and it smells amazing! thank you sooo much for posting this.
ReplyDeleteI never hear about BB creams,I will give a try!!! I'm always looking to try new products to cover my rosacea :-)
ReplyDeleteUmmm, now I'm going to Walgreens right after work! And of course crossing my fingers that they actually have it at mine.
ReplyDeleteBB (Beauty Balm) actually originated in Germany but was quickly sought after by South Korean actresses. Of course with the popularity of those actresses it quickly caught on among mainstream South Koreans then spread to China and Japan from there it caught on by women in the US.
ReplyDeleteSome real Korean BB cream has certain items that you would cringe at slathering on your face... like placenta. US BB cream contains more silicone ingredients than their Korean (which does contain silicone as well) or even German counterparts. Also many Asian BB creams contain ingredients to whiten the skin while the US versions typically do not.
I think Maybelline needs to bring their BB foundation over from Asia and several other cosmetic companies should bring their products over (like Pond's whitening cream from India and China).
I use BB cream from Skin79 and I found that the best thing to do is apply a moisturizer first then BB cream then foundation OR mix BB cream in with your foundation and skip a primer. No primer is needed when you use BB cream because most contain silicone.
If you have a silicone sensitivity then BB cream is something not for you.
I can't wait for my local stores to carry this to compare to my Asian BB creams. It'll be interesting to see how well it does along with the cost since I pay between $10 - $30 for my BB creams.
It is been almost 3 years since I use BB cream myself. I use Missha Perfect cover, I wonder if this US BB cream can compare to its Korean counterparts.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best beauty items I have bought recently...and I have bought a lot. Most days I do not even wear foundation and my skin is not perfect to begin with...redness, breakouts, etc. Absolutely love this product...I love the new 2-1 Serum they just came out with too!
ReplyDeletehomg, WANT-- except that I KNOW that it will be too dark for me. =(
ReplyDeletevery excited to see this available here in the US. will be visiting walgreens soon
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I've been hoping for an alternative for those who don't want spend higher prices for a product that they aren't one hundred percent sure about. I can't wait to try it myself!
ReplyDeleteWow~ I want to try this out, but I'm worried that they changed the formulation from what a typical BB cream is like, which is what Boscia did... I hope they keep the same formulation and qualities as Asian BB cream, otherwise what's the point?
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that you want a BB Cream but I urge you not to buy this one from Garnier. I have an authentic BB Cream from South Korea (Skin79) and the consistency and results of this so called drugstore BB Cream are more like a thick tinted moisturiser. I bought one when it launched in the UK in August and I've worn it twice I don't like it, its too thick and I feel my pores are being clogged and rather than it sit in a drawer I sanitized it and gave it to a blogger who liked it.
ReplyDeleteSave your money for a true Asian BB Cream and be aware of all the fake BB Creams out there!
Skin79 is fantastic and I've also heard very good things about Leolle.

Wow!I am so excited to try this!! I didn't know there were any coming to the US this soon! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to find it on my end soon as I do I will surely be posting back, thanks for the heads up, I did find everything else you posted that is here in my area the new rimmil mascara, and shadows and several others I'll post updates too.HUGZ
ReplyDeleteWANT!hopefully it doesn't take forever to get to Canada.
ReplyDeleteHow the heck did I miss out on gossip about BB creams?! I had to click your link b/c I had never heard of these LOL! These look interesting and going to be looking into these a little further!
ReplyDeleteThis is AMAZING!! As soon as I get off from work I am going to my Walgreens and I really hope they have it because I was there yesterday and I did NOT see it, well, I was not looking for it either LOL - THANKS SO MUCH for these great news!!
ReplyDeleteMERRY CHRISTMAS!!
I'd like to give this a try but I have a feeling that Light/Medium will be way too dark for me. This would be a nice alternative for days when I don't want to do a full foundation but would still like some coverage. I hope one of the brands provides a fair option! *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeleteI see that Zadidoll already mentioned it, but just wanted to say that this is one of those times that wikipedia is wrong. BB Creams got their start in Germany (Dr Christine Schrammek) in order to cover scarring and redness, and help heal from plastic surgery procedures.
ReplyDeleteG, have you ever found BB Cream in the Asian shops you sometimes go to? I think I'd like to try real Korean BB Cream rather than an American formulation, because I suspected they wouldn't create a real BB Cream, and it sounds like they didn't from the other commenters.
FINALLY! I was wondering when (and even IF!) this would make it to the U.S.. Thank you so much for posting this, G!
ReplyDeleteso excited for this one, a cheaper bb cream
ReplyDeleteThat's exciting, my holy grail is still L'egere's White Multi BB cream
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there are only two color options! I know it's a light coverage product but I keep hearing if you're actually fair (like me) or darker than medium these colors won't work :( Which makes me sad as I was excited to try this. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI bought this and was extremely disappointed...It left my face super shiny (like greasy looking) I would put it on and buy the time I drove to school (1 1/2 hours) I had to wipe it off and apply some powder. It also didn't provide enough coverage that I was hoping for. I debated to keep trying it but decided I'd rather get my $10 back and go buy something else instead...I had the light/medium and it worked for me (my foundation color is normally in the beige family)
ReplyDeleteUgh I love this stuff. It's my HG "foundation". I have never found something like it with all the drugstore foundations I've tried. I've even tried a few department store foundations and several BB creams (all Skin79). I don't need to cover much but it seems like most foundations are lacking (that or they just cake like crazy). To give you an idea it: is light weight with about light-medium to medium coverage, evens out my skin, covers my orange-rind pores (on my cheeks), does not make oily skin worse (I only blot once), looks like skin/doesn't cake, doesn't break me out/clog pores (I'm very clog & acne prone), and my skin just glows from it. Of course I have to use concealer on pimples & under eye circles. I have not ever found a foundation that covers everything.
