And the Pantone 2017 Color of the Year is...

In case you didn't hear the news, yesterday Pantone announced their 2017 Color of the Year.

From Happi.com:
It’s that time of year again – color authority Pantone named Pantone 15-0343 Greenery as its Color of the Year for 2017; a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade is symbolic of new beginnings, evoking the first days of spring when natures greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals individuals to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

I like to post about this every year because, as most of us know by now, the Pantone Color of the Year always makes its way into cosmetics (in addition to fashion, home accessories, etc.). So we will no doubt see Greenery and Greenery-inspired eyeshadow palettes, nail polishes, etc. in 2017. Most notably, Sephora always releases their Sephora + Pantone Color Universe collection, so we can expect lots of greens in that collection when it debuts.

Looking back through my archives, Sephora posted a preview of the 2016 collection (Rose Quartz & Serenity) on their Snapchat on December 4th, 2015. I'm not on Snapchat, so can any of you tell me if they posted a preview this week of the Greenery collection?

So far, I only know of one beauty brand that has a Greenery collection that you can buy now:

You can check out the entire Butter LONDON + Pantone  Color of the Year 2017 collection (nail lacquers and Plus Rush lip glosses) here.

So let's hear it! What are your thoughts about Greenery? Are you happy with the 2017 pick? Do you like it more (or less) than 2016's pick (Rose Quartz and Serenity)?

  1. Right before I opened the link I guessed it would be a green! We haven't had green in ages (if ever.

    1. It was just a green in 2013 (Emerald).

    2. Yeah, I was just going to say that we definitely had a green not too long ago. :) Thanks for that, Rachel. You saved me a trip through my archives! ;)

    3. I loved Emerald but this shade of green no, not so much.

  2. I'm in Slytherin, so I love green but I hate warm greens(maybe it's my natural olive sallow undertones) but I'm excited to give this color a shot though I think I'd rather lean towards emerald green. I don't think 2017's color is as pretty and unique as Rose Quartz and Serenity, not to mention those had such pretty cool tones which are easily dominated by the steady influx of warm tone colors. I also don't see it as versatile and universal as Marsala was or able to be interpretted widely like Radiant Orchid. Maybe the greenery will surprise me though I was kinda bummed. I think maybe a chocolate or a taupe brown(as opposed to a terracotta warm red brown) would've been a better option, but this color is certainly not expected.

    1. OMG, I had to google "Slytherin" because I was like, "Is that a country I don't know about??? LOL! I have never read a HP book nor seen any of the movies apart from a few seconds on TV while flipping through channels (crazy, I know)!

Anyway, yeah I loved Marsala. That was so translatable to cosmetics and it was such an easy color for so many to wear. But I do love me some green (especially when it comes to nail polish and home decor) so I'm pretty excited about this one. :)

  3. I'm a gardening gal, so I love actual greenery. As far as makeup, I don't do a lot of green and definitely not a green that bright...but I never say never! ;)

    1. I LOVE gardeners! Makes me happy to know that gardeners are happy with this choice. :) I have a black thumb, so I'm wildly jealous of those who can care for plants and not kill them within a few days (my record is about a month, actually. Sad but true). Lol!

  4. I love all shades of green...from acid yellow green to deepest darkest green. Definitely a color of the year I can get behind!

    1. Me too, Jenn! I'm excited to see all of the lush green products that will pop up in 2017. Can't wait to walk into the clothing/accessories aisle in Target and see green everywhere. ;)

  5. Looks like I'll be saving some money this year. Green is one of my least favorite colors. 🙂

    2. Same for me, and I wonder what next year will be? What haven't they don't recently? Hmmmm....

    3. Dare I say, you'll be saving... green? 😜

  6. Yes please! That exact shade of green is one of my two favorite colors!!! It's such natural and peaceful color! I've been waiting to find that shade of green nail polish since a lot of greens I see in the beauty world are dark or too neon or too pale.

  7. I think I read that Butter London has taken over the rights to the Pantone Color of the Year for cosmetics. I understood it as Sephora no longer has that contract. I am curious to see if that is accurate or not. It seems like the Sephora Pantone products generally didn't sell well and always ended up in the clearance section.

    1. Well the light blue lipstick they did this year didn't look good on anyone in the photos, no matter the skin tone.

      Delete
    2. They still have a lot of the light blue and that pale pink lipstick in their clearance section now, along with the eyeliner from time to time. A lipstick that pale a blue is really only good for someone who really likes to rock an eccentric look or who'd use it with other colors, maybe to tone down a shade that's too orange.

  8. I love aa shades of green, esp the bright ones like this...

  9. Green is my favorite color, but this is green is just meh, although I wasn't too fond of last year's colors either. I really liked the Emerald color from a few years back.

  10. I knew you would be excited by this G.! I am on the fence as of now. We shall all see soon enough how it translates to real life. That is kind of cool to watch!

  11. Getting ready for green overload! I'm thinking some brands will go for green highlighters? lol

  12. I love green, especially that shade of green, and it makes me think of springtime and my belovd houseplants. (OK, I love most shades of green.) It's probably not a green I would wear personally, however. That's a color where if I wear too much I feel grayed out. But I am curious to see what cosmetics companies will release. I'd probably mainly buy nail polish, though. I like green eyeshadows and liners when they're sage, olive or teal, but I'm not sure I'd want to wear this particular color as eyeliner, save for the odd swipe of green now and then. (Maybe for St. Patrick's Day?)

  13. I hate this color. I prefer a dark green like Hunter, Kelly or Emerald unless it's Neon Green. I love that one. Oh well.

  14. Green is my favorite eyeshadow color! And when I think of green shadows, I think of UD. Hope they make something awesome, even though they just launched the full spectrum palette.

  15. I took one look at this color and thought "salad dressing". You know, the color of Green Goddess or the Avocado Ranch dressing at On The Border. Not something I really want to wear (not to mention it's way, WAY too yellow for me). Afraid this is another big NOPE for me.

    1. Yep, same here. Nope. and I thought of salad too with that name!

    2. Yes, avocado green, but I'll call it 70's green. I certainly hope home decor will not showcase it with brown & orange! I've seen a lot of 70's fashion over this year so maybe now it's going to be trending in home decor? That's a scary thought, at least to me!

  16. This color reminds me of a Crayola crayon, but I cannot remember the name. Maybe yellow green or green grass.

  17. I think this color would be gorgeous on brown or hazel eyes! Rose Quartz & Serenity were very beautiful and unique in their own way, but I'm excited to see what types of cosmetics and home decôr is incorporated with this for 2017!!!

    1. A few years ago I had a makeover done at a major department store's Estee Lauder counter. I was absolutely horrified that she used a shade of green eyeshadow like this. Yes, I have brown eyes but with my dark circles & veins under my eyes it is 1 of the colors I must avoid. Perhaps if I ever find the right combination of products to cover both of these issues, it may be an option but most likely not!

  18. I like that color, but it makes me look jaundiced. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh I'm so excited for this!! The last color of the year I really enjoyed in the world of makeup was Radiant Orchid. I LOVE green cosmetics and will totally rock this all year long!

  20. I wasn't crazy about the 2016 duo but I'm stoked for this. I'm thinking of what a fun challenge it could be to build some lovely green shadows and liners into my makeup looks in the coming year!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well this is an easy pass for me, green and my skin tone definitely do not get along. Oh well, glad its unique this year just not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm not thrilled with most greens, and I don't think this shade is flattering on a lot of skin tones. I will likely pass on buying items In ths shade.

  23. Green is my favorite color, although I prefer Emerald to Greenery. It's fun and fresh and cheerful though so yay for that. Can't see myself doing any makeup in this color, maybe a tee shirt.

  24. Such a pretty color! OMG! PS I LOVE YOU AND YOUR BLOG <3

  25. I love green in nature, but not this puce-y, chartreuse-y color on me. That's OK, can't wear 'em all! I love emerald green and that was the CotY not long ago.

  26. We just picked our house paint colors and Sherwin Williams had a totally different color of the year( theirs was a taupe). I debated a green shade, but in the end I went with 2 blues, a chocolate brown, sand beach and a tomato red( kitchen and laundry room). Someone pointed out that it looks very nautical. Anyway, If/when these colors go on clearance, I might pick it up in a liner from Sephora.

  27. I saw a list of the Panton colors shown at a fashion event for Spring collections. I looked at the past few years choices and concluded that it was going to be Greenery or the other green they had, Kale. But all the colors are pretty.

  28. Beautiful color. Plus I just want to thank you for your hardwork, I got that Nordstorm credit and I used it on the Morphe Palette (350 Shimmer) on Hautelook, I am getting that for like $5 and$5 for shipping. Totatlly worth it, on Morphe's website it would have been almost 30 bucks!

  29. I barely dipped a toe into celebrating 2016's duo. It definitely reminded me of baby announcements, and I couldn't stretch my imagination beyond that. This Greenery color is fun because my kitchen already features a bunch of utensils this color (even my kitchen walls are a pale version of it). Mostly I will rock eye shadow in this shade but the idea of Greenery lipstick is VERY intriguing! If I see that start to trend I will flip.

  31. I'm an interior designer and I'm wondering why that haven't issued a muted greige color yet? Muddied greys are so popular in interiors and clothing right now.

  32. I think it's a great color to look at, and for home decor...but it's too yellow for me to wear!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm definitely interested to see the makeup collections that come out for this color. It's not a traditional shade for makeup as were the last two years, so I'd expect brands to do lots of complementary colors- which will be fun to experiment with!

  34. Is she okay.... she hasn't posted in days?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love what it represents, but I'm kind of disappointed in this color. It seems like it's going to be difficult for most people to pull off in makeup and such. Plus, I feel like emerald was just a second ago. Can we venture from green for more than a couple years? But, I'm keeping an open mind. That Butter London nail polish looks lovely.

  43. I have to say I am very excited to see what Pantone will do with Sephora. I think the last time i was this excited about the color of the year was in 2013. I like how this new color is very bright and fresh compared to other collections that they have had in the past.
