NEW L'Oreal Pop Balms

So for the past week I've been noticing on social media that people have been spotting random shades of a new lip color line from L'Oreal at places like Walmart and Target. As far as I know, these random shades have been just kind of scattered in the permanent L'Oreal display, without any designated slots. The other day, reader Vanessa (@amarievx on Instagram) shared these pics with me:

NEW L'Oreal Pop Balm in Wild Lily

Keep reading as I unravel the mystery (for myself, and you!)...

Vanessa found the above lipstick all by itself on clearance at Target, so I suspect that it was maybe sent as the only one of its kind within a larger shipment. Without any additional shades, or a display in which to put them, I'm guessing they just put it on clearance, not really knowing what else to do with it (that's just my theory).

Fast forward to today, and reader @simply_beauty93 on Instagram let me know that the new L'Oreal Pop Balms are now listed on the Ulta site HERE in four shades: Wild Lily (above), Electric Pink, Bold Blush and Fiery Red.

So to confirm: this is a brand new line of lip colors from L'Oreal called Pop Balms. There may be more shades than just the four you see on the Ulta site--we'll have to wait and see.

I do not see any reference to these being part of the Colour Riche line (no mention of that on the packaging or the Ulta website) and there's no reference to these being part of the Colour Caresse line either. Visually, they don't really look like the recently-discontinued Colour Caresse Lipsticks--to me the packaging looks much more like the Maybelline Color Sensational Color Whispers (L'Oreal owns Maybelline so this isn't really shocking). I wouldn't be terribly surprised to find that these resemble the Color Whispers in terms of feel and pigmentation. The L'Oreal Pop Balm description on the Ulta site is:

"L'Oreal's Pop Balm is a kiss of color and care powered by moisturizing oils from subtly sheer to poppy colors."

Bottom line: there is a new L'Oreal lip color line! And now you know as much as I do about it. If you spot an actual display for these, I'd love to hear where you spotted it and how many shades were in the display!

Thanks so much, Vanessa and @simply_beauty93, for the great pics and info. I really appreciate it!

  1. I saw these at Walmart in Olive Branch , Ms last week when I was in there shopping. They had all four of the colors like Ulta, but they were full price. I thought that they looked new because I had never seen that packaging before and I thought about picking one up, but I didn't because I wanted two of the L'OEAL Visible Lift Blur cream blushes. I hope that helps anyone that lives near here that are on the hunt for those :)

    1. Sorry, I tried my best to explain why this was on clearance in my post, but I know it's confusing! That was a random occurrence... the REAL price is $7.99. Hope that clears it up!

  3. Maybelline Color Whispers are being discontinued at Walgreens, so this could be them somewhat redone?

    1. A reader told me that Maybelline told her that only select shades of the Color Whispers are being discontinued--not the entire line. Did you see all shades on clearance at your Walgreens? Thanks!

    2. I saw only a few Color Whispers shades marked half-off at my corner Walgreens. Orange Attitude and Who Wore It Red-Er were the ones I remember, but I think two or three other shades were marked down, too.

    3. I contacted maybelline via twitter after G and I had a somewhat funny mixup haha Harmon mangers told me that only certain shades were being discontinued and the rest were available for order still. Maybelline themselves said that it was only certain shades being discontinued.

    4. I emailed you, did you ever receive it? I had an issue with emailing you in the past, so I'm wondering if it's happening again.

    1. Do you mean the font? It does look similar!

    2. Yeah, that's what I meant! The font (and font size). Perils of commenting before coffee!

    3. I recently saw the new L'Oreal Glossy Balm at Target and Bed Bath & Beyond, they also have the same font.

  5. Guys -- you're forgetting about the Limited Edition Colour Riche Balms that came out around XMas in 4 colors called "Pop Shades". They basically had the same pigmentation as the Color Caresse Lipsticks but more of the Balm type feeling and texture. Looks like they took that concept and made it into a permanent collection. It's the same packaging as the Balms just different font. I hope these are here to stay!!

Thank you, Liz!! ITHOUGHT these looked familiar but then I just figured that they were reminding me of the Color Whispers! I seriously cannot keep all of these balms straight at this point! Lol!

  6. I hope I'm that lucky at my Target tomorrow. They look like the Colour Riche Balms, but with brighter colors. I guess that's why these are called "Pop Balms." Drugstore.com has the four shades on their site http://www.drugstore.com/loreal-paris-colour-riche-balm-pop-wild-lily-410/qxp526323?catid=300859. They also have the L'oreal Glossy Balms listed.

    1. Thanks so much for that tip! And when you said Glossy Balms I was like, "Wait, there's another new balm??" and then I realized that's the name of the new crayons I posted about last week. Lol!! I can't keep it straight anymore! :)

    2. No worries honey, no one expects you to keep track of EVERY SINGLE item that crosses your path! You run a business and have a life.....no one can keep track of all of it..... :) don't feel you're the only one and don't demand of yourself what you would forgive in others......love you and your site!

  7. Now for $1.26 I would try this! LOL. I have picked up several different balms in the last months and I feel they are all so darn similar!! I am done spending $$ on them.

  8. Have they truly discontinued the Colour Caresse Lipstick line?! :( It is one of my favorite drugstore formulas.

  10. I work for Target and if an item comes in that your store doesn't carry, it goes to clearance right away. (I believe, 70% off, right away). I've gotten Milani dirt cheap a few times, since my store doesn't carry it.

  12. I'm thinking this might be a dupe to Benefits Loli Balm

  13. I thought these were the same as the Colour Riche Balm's that they have now, only in brighter colors.

  14. I saw 2 new Pop Balm shades today at CVS, in addition to the other 4 previously mentioned. The new shades were 418- Caring Coral and 518- Tender Mauve. There was also a display of "Nude Balms" that I had never seen before.
