The Wednesday Question

If you could only use products from ONE drugstore cosmetics brand for the next six months, which brand would you choose?

I haven't asked this question in a while, and I think it's an interesting one since it forces you to really evaluate the entire product line of each brand. If I could only use products from one brand for six months, I would have to go with Maybelline, because I know for a fact that they have a concealer (several, actually) that work well for me, as well as a face powder, brow pencil and mascara that I love, and those are my essential products when it comes to my daily routine. I haven't had the best luck with Maybelline blushes and powder eyeshadows, but I could work around those areas. I love my Color Tattoos when it comes to eyeshadow, and my Color Sensational lipsticks when it comes to lip color, so there would be no sacrifices in those areas (heck, I could probably use a Color Sensational Vivids lipstick as blush, if I needed to). And there are lots of Color Show nail colors to keep me occupied for six months. Yep, I'd have to go with Maybelline!

  1. I'd choose Bourjois, pretty much for the same reason as you've chosen Maybelline because most of my base products come from them, and also they've had some really nice new stuff lately, think they're on fire at the moment :) x

  2. This is hard for me as I'm new to make-up in general and I seem to buy things from several manufacturers. I think I would say L'Oreal because I like their eye products.

  3. I actually wouldn't have a problem with any of the drug store brands for 6 months. I have face, lip, and eye products that I love from every single brand that I would be happy to use!

If I were forced to choose, I think right now I would say... Jordana.

I love their liquid foundation and powder. I use their powder blush everyday anyway, along with the Lash Extreme mascara, so that wouldn't change. I am in LOVE with their matte lipsticks and Twist n Shine sticks, love the shadow sticks and powder shadows. Love their nail polish. Pricing wise I could easily replace throughout the 6 months with no major damage. Jordana it is!

  4. Have you tried their bouncy blushes? Or their loose pigments, their quads with all the shimmer, ooooo and their neutral 8 pan eye shadow palette?

    1. Yes, no, yes and yes.

I reviewed a few Bouncy Blushes about a year ago and didn't love them. One had very weak pigmentation and both of them just didn't have the staying power I need when it comes to my oily skin.

  5. Oooo I'd have to go with E.L.F. I love their makeup and brushes and use them alot! :)

    1. Totally agree! E.l.f. all the way!
I love their products and with the diversity of their range, I would never get bored.
I also, only use cruelty free products but, with all the great cf products available, I don't feel that I am missing out on anything. :)

  6. Wow, that is a tough one! My "essentials" are foundation, blush, eye primer, eyeshadow, liquid/gel eyeliner, mascara, lip-something, and nail polish. Unfortunately, I don't think any drugstore lines currently meet my foundation needs (light-med coverage, high SPF, no chemical sunscreen). Assuming I just used sunscreen and skipped foundation, though, my leading candidates would be L'Oreal, Maybelline, and e.l.f.

L'Oreal: Has my favorite blush (magic souffle), amazing eyeshadows (especially the infallible line), and great liquid eyeliners. Has primers, though I've never tried them.

Maybelline: Has great eyeshadows (whole EyeStudio line including Color Tattoos), my favorite lipsticks (Color Sensational and Color Whisper), plenty of mascara options, and better nail colors than L'Oreal. Don't know about their liquid eyeliners, though, and I'm not sure they have any primer products (although the Color Tattoo shadows double as pigmented primers). Bonus points for having my favorite waterproof makeup remover, too!

e.l.f.: Has my absolute favorite mascara (3-in-1 studio) and eye primer (the cheapo one), as well as good blushes and (some) good eyeshadows and lippies. Haven't had luck with their eyeliners, though, which might be a dealbreaker.

Okay, I think I'd have to go with Maybelline, too! I think they are being positioned less as L'Oreal's downscale line and more as L'Oreal's edgier, younger sister these days.

    1. Have you tried e.l.f.'s waterproof liquid eyeliner pen? Its fab!

  7. Tough one G. It is a 50/50 split between Revlon and Maybelline.

Both have foundations that I love, both have eyeshadows that I love and both have glosses that I love.

Truly a "Sophie's Choice" type question for me!

  8. I'd go with Rimmel. I like most if their products, but my eyes are my best feature and I love their mascara and eyeliners!

  9. Maybelline because I would wear lavender voltage everyday lol plus they always a BOGO sale on them.My second choice would be L'Oreal because of their shadows.

  10. I would have to say Wet N Wild because I have tons of there products that I love

  11. Oh man ... this is hard. I might have to go with L'Oreal. It's hard for me to find a light enough foundation with the right undertones at the drugstore, and I also have a hard time finding a brow product that isn't too warm-toned for my dark hair. I would have picked Revlon if they had decent eye products.

  12. I'd go with Maybelline as well. I have no idea what I would do for foundation, I've never tried any of theirs which is weird, or mascara.. none of them work on me, kind of like what happens with loreal on you G... but they have my HG lip product, liner, and creme shadow and I love pretty much all of their eyeshadows.

  13. That's a tough one! I think I'd pick Wet n' Wild because it has excellent shadows, lipsticks, an eye primer (haven't tried yet though) and blushes. Milani would be my second choice though.

  14. Revlon. I know I can at least find ONE thing in each basic cosmetic category that would work for me--and that's saying a lot considering how sensitive my skin is. I could go with...

Super lustrous shine finish lippies/lip glosses
    Whipped Creme Foundation
    Age Defying concealer
    Lash Potion Mascara
    Lash Curler
    Colorstay Liners

I haven't used any of their blushes before but to be honest, like G said, it's easy enough to turn any of their lippies into a blush.

    1. Came here to say pretty much the same thing. Love most of the products you mentioned, plus Lip Butters, Photoready cream blushes, and their nail polishes. The only thing I find disappointing from Revlon is their eyeshadows.

  15. MILANI their secret cover concealer pot cover my zombie dark circles and theri multitasker powder is amazing love their bluses, shadows lipsticks and liners

  16. Loreal hands down! My perfect match for foundation, love the true match concealer jumbo pencil, my holy grail mascara- Voluminous Carbon black..... Also, they have decent face primer/eyeliners/ blush & lippies. The wide retail distribution means I can find it everywhere

  17. Probably Cover Girl, but that's a hard question!

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is hard to answer because as a woman of color most ethnic lines only go so far. My choice would have to be Covergirl since most ethnic lines don't have nail polish. I have alot of Covergirl products.

  19. This is a TOUGH one! I don't even have a drugstore blush. I love my L'Oreal mascaras and I love my Revlon foundations. I'm torn.

  20. I'd definitely have to go with Maybelline as well! I can't live without their eye products! My favorite eyeliners and mascaras are all Maybelline. The eye studio eyeshadows are awesome! the concealer and highlighter is great as well. I don't think I've ever tried a foundation but I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed! I love the color whispers for my lips!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Argh nooooo! Cover Girl, I guess... their eyeliner and blush choices stuck, but they have a) foundation, b) mascaras, and c) concealers that I love, whereas other brands have max two of of three.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Would probably go with L'Oreal. Love their magic skin bb cream, the colour riche quads and infallible singles, and the voluminous carbon black is a cult favorite for good reason! I'm itching to try more of their products overall as I haven't been disappointed yet.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Same here! I'd choose Maybelline. Their complexion/base products are great! And a lot of selections for makeup as well!!Also Love Maybelline's mascaras!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would go with Wet n Wild, for sure! It is my favorite cosmetic brand, because it is super inexpensive (one of the cheapest drugstore brands), but also high quality, and have everything I need! They have a foundation, powder, mascara, and brow pencil I love. And lipsticks and eyeshadows and almost everything else... In other words, they have all the essentials I need, AND all the "extras"!

This is an interesting question... thanks for posting :)

    xoxo, Bre

  25. That's a toughie. I almost said NYX, but then I thought about how much Rimmel London, Wet N Wild, Revlon, Maybelline and L'Oreal I use too. As much as I love L'Oreal's eyeliners and mascaras, I am going to have to give it to Maybelline for their outstanding foundations, eye shadows, blushes and lipsticks. Overall they do more better, but my heart still belongs to L'Oreal when it comes to mascara.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would choose NYX, for sure. I love their powder blushes, and I have many of their lip products that are HG. Their face and eye primers work well enough, also. I know I would have all of my bases covered and could be pretty content!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh this begs too many questions! I'd want a good concealer, mascara and lipstick/balm, at the very least. That said, I guess I'd go with L'Oreal. I hear good things about the color match concealer, I like their lipsticks and balms, and their mascaras have never failed me.

  28. Revlon! As an over 65 makeup maven (yes Virginia, makeup doesn't stop at 50), Revlon would cover most of my needs. However, like most people, I love certain things from all the drugstore brands!

    ReplyDelete
  29. This took alot of thinking but I decided on Wet and Wild. I use the tinted moisturizer in the fall/winter and a couple of eyeliner pencils regularly. I dont love their lip glosses but lipstick is a winner!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think it would have to be Maybelline for me. They seem to be an overall great brand. They have great concealers, foundations eyeshadows, blushes and lipsticks! I'm sure I could make do with the other stuff that isn't the best. And who knows, maybe I would end up discovering other great items. NYX would be my 2nd runner up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Maybelline or Black Radiance...I cant choose :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd have to say Revlon. I love their polishes and they are one of the main drugstore brands I buy from. They seem to be more consistant in their products. Wet n Wild and Milani would be runner ups, especially for eye shadows and polishes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. At first I thought you meant all beauty products, not just makeiup, which is a no brainer for me- Loreal has the premium product lines for hair and skin which quality & research seems to trickle down to their drugstore brands. LOVE THE Loreal sulfite free hair care, sublime sun products, BB Cream, mascara. If makeup only, probably would choose Neautrogena or Almay. Both are great for sensitive skin.&a natural look.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Revlon. I love their colorstay whip foundation right now since it lasts forever and I've heard great things about their powders as well. They have a great bronzer and lots of blush variety, from cream to powder. They're eyeshadows are okay, I love the vintage lace matte shadow, use it everyday as a highlight color and they have the grow luscious mascara that I also like. As far as eyeliners go, I rarely line my eyes anymore since I'm so into the natural look right now, so I can live 6 months without an eyeliner and they're lip products are amazing, especially the balm stains and lip butters (LOVE). So yeah, I think I've justified my answer. haha

    ReplyDelete
  35. Milani! Their Ultrafine liquid liners are my favorite makeup product ever (well, that isn't a nail polish.) NYX would probably be in second, then maybe Revlon.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wet N Wild! I have yet to try a WNW product that I don't like. I LOVE their eyeshadow--I have rarely bought anything else and don't tend to use the other brands I own very much. I love all their other products too; from foundation to nail polish to lipstick, they're all great products and at a price I can afford! :)
