Weekend Manicure: Essie Wild Thing

After all the reports from so many of you about Essie 3-packs being spotted at Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls lately, I finally found some at a local Ross and I of course had to pick one up (as most of you know, Essie polishes retail for $8 each at most drugstores, so three for $8.99 is a steal!).

Essie Nail Polish 3-Pack in Wild Thing, Antique Rose and Silken Cord
(retail: $8.99 at Ross, 3 x 0.46 oz)

For my manicure this weekend, I chose Wild Thing (two coats plus Seche Vite top coat):

Wild Thing is a shimmery wine-ish berry shade with holographic microglitter. The glitter appears more dense in the bottle vs. what you see on the nail, but I was happy to see that the glitter is distributed quite evenly with regular brush strokes (no need for coaxing). Overall it's a more subtle look than I was expecting, but pretty nonetheless. If you're not a big glitter person but you want a little pizazz with your normal wine or berry shades, this would probably be perfect for you. At certain angles you can't really see the glitter at all, but it's quite pretty when the glitter hits the light just so.

Very nice formula on this one--two coats yields great opacity and it's very easy to work with (not too thick, not too thin).

Here's a shot that brings out the holo glitter a bit more:

What are you wearing on your nails this weekend?

It looks lovely but I'm still all ambivalent libra about it. :-\

  5. Really? Essie costs that much? Sounds like OPI a bit. Anyways, I might paint my nails with Ice Touch from Sinful since it's been a long time since I used my older polishes. :3

  7. I have this polish and have yet to do more than swatch it on a nail wheel. I think maybe I have too many polishes...

This looks very nice on you, so I may be digging mine out of my stash for my next mani!

I'm currently wearing the LE Maybelline Color Show Auburn Ablaze! :)

  8. Essie polishes are a tad pricier than I prefer, but the formula quality makes them worth it, unlike OPI (at least for me, I seem to have a body chemistry issue with it since I've talked to lots of other girls who don't have the same problem... on me OPI chips off in no time flat).

Still, I only buy them when they hit Ross or when there's a particularly fantastic shade. Like Dive Bar. Dive Bar is amazing and every bit worth paying the full price for, IMO. I might have to start stalking Ross again for a set like that, Antique Rose looks right up my alley!

Right now my nails are bare, since I just took off my polish and will be re-doing them tomorrow morning. I was wearing Wet & Wild Toxic Apple; haven't decided yet what will be up next.

  9. I actually found a six pack of Essie polishes (Super Bossa Nova, Braziliant, Silken Cord, Power Clutch, Antique Rose, and Wild Thing) at ROSS a month or so ago for $17.99. My mom says I got the craziest look on my face when I saw it and I guarded it all the way to the register. I haven't seen it again since. I was super excited when I saw the three packs hoping that there would be new colors, but they were mostly the same as I got in my pack the only difference I noticed was that they switched out one of the colors for a frosty blue one. I'm not sure which one since I never really got a good look at it. I haven't heard anyone talk about the six pack so I'm wondering if I just got super lucky or if it's just super old news.

PS: I REALLY love Wild Thing! I was hoping to have more glitter too, but I think it looks even better with just a little scattered holo. It's like a little surprise whenever your nails catch the light!

    1. Lol!! I've heard from a few other readers who have found those 6 packs but they seem kind of rare. You're lucky to have snagged it!

  10. I got this same three pack at Ross about two weeks ago. When I saw it I was super excited since I'm an Essie addict. I got another three pack about a month ago too. I haven't tried any of them yet, but that is gorgeous on you!

  11. Love this! *adds to wish list*

I was wearing Butter London's Trustafarian, which was one of the colors I picked up during Ulta's BOGOFREE sale last week. It's "totes amaze."

  12. I saw this exact three-pack of Essies in Ross today and I bought it because I had seen your review. I really wanted Wild Thing and the other colors look like ones I will wear. I had seen a different three-pack at another Ross and I skipped it because I probably would only wear one shade out of it. I also bought this really cool Physician's Formula set with an empty bamboo compact and a translucent powder refill and a light bronzer refill. And to think I went in for a shoe organizer...
