The Wednesday Question

What's your go-to drugstore eyeliner, and why?

Most of you probably know my answer before I even say it: Jordana FabuLiner in Black. For $2.99 at Walgreens, that liner literally changed my life. Before I tried that liner (thanks to the lovely Yuliya who kindly gave me my very first one a few years ago), I was never really a felt-tip liner person. But the ease of use, the pigmentation and the staying power make it a liner I reach for at least four times a week. I think it's perfect for both newbies and longtime liquid liners users. One pen lasts forever, and it never smears/smudges on me, even in hot weather (it's not waterproof through, in case you've never tried it). It's perfection for me. PS: Don't get the Brown version--it's not nearly as good as Black.

  1. I'm going to cheat and give two answers. Milani's color play eyeliner in black is my favorite pen style eyeliner,, and Prestige total intensity eyeliner in deepest black is my favorite pencil eyeliner. They are both fantastic quality!

  2. LOreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner is an amazing eyeliner for the waterline, imho!

  3. I have quite a few eyeliners right now, so I'm trying to rotate through different ones every day! Current favorites include the Physician's Formula pen liners (the ones that claim to boost lash growth), MAC Pearlglide in Black Line, and Milani Liquif'eye in Brown.

BTW, MAC Black Line is the kind of black-with-supersaturated-shimmer (olive, in this case) that I would give my eyeteeth for drugstores to start duping!! PF's shimmer-infused gel liners don't hold a candle to it, their shimmer is more sparse/less noticeable.

  4. I agree with Emi - Prestige has some pretty good pencil eyeliners! As for creme and liquid liners, Wet n' Wild and Maybelline Line Stiletto are faves, respectively.

  5. Jordana Color Extend Waterproof in Black. I love this eyeliner!!! It's one dollar at my local dollar store and it's awesome.

  6. Liquid liner I would have to go with Milani's eye tech extreme black felt tip liner, I get it at target for 3.99 cheapest I have ever found it! I also love the Milani's liquid eye liquid like eyeliner for my tight line and waterline. neither of these budge once they are set.

  7. WnW pencils! Crazy long, super cheap - and perfect: not too hard, not too soft. Luv!

  8. My favorite liner is eye shadow, just about any kind, but usually plum, forest or olive green, or a good slate gray. I love wetting the e.l.f. angled eyeliner brush, dipping it into eye shadow and lining my eyes with that. Gets more in between the lashes, has good staying power, strong color, and it blends well with other shadows, too, if I want it darker or more sparkly or whatever. It's probably because I'm not a fan of sharpening pencils and a lot of those are too greasy for my tastes, too, though I like the Ulta and the Essence liners that need no sharpening, and that Physicians Formula lash-boosting liner, but I almost always line shadow over it.

  9. I'm going to have to say my Wet N Wild creme liner, though it's becoming harder and harder to find. I can't use pens or liquid to save my life, but gimme my pot of liner and my liner brush and I'm good to go! I do set it on my waterline with a shadow, but it stays put all day!

  10. I love liquid liner. That's all I can say! I have issues with liners smearing and ending up under my eyes. Anyone got any suggestions?

  11. My Milani 24hr intensity waterproof liquid liner - in all colors! I bought them after your review (and checked out a few other reviews as well) and I can't live with out it! It's helped me perfect technique (cause once it's on, it's not budging). And those who had issues with taking it off, I don't - baby oil on a cotton ball. A few wipes later, done deal. LOVE LOVE LOVE (and btw, thank you!)

  13. The Palladio gel pencil liner you recommended to me. Goes on easy, stays on all day (I wl/tl, almost never use liner on the lid), does not smudge or travel to the corners of my eye, and does not hurt my apparently very sensitive eyes. Only wish it came in more colors (no green, and the purple is more pink and very unflattering in the wl), and was a bit more pigmented. I like Maybelline gel liner, but it's a pain to put on with a brush, pencil is so much quicker. It is much more pigmented and comes in great colors though. On the odd chance I do want a liquid liner I adore the PF eye booster, both black and brown are fantastic.. very fine line.

Prior to finding the Palladio I used Rimmel kohl kajal.. very good staying power for a kohl, goes on very soft and smooth and great colors. The Rimmel exaggerate are also really great for lining outside of the eye, again great colors and pigmentation, stay very well, self sharpening, and have a built in smudger.

  14. I don't actually have a go-to drugstore eyeliner currently. I'm still searching for my HG and want to eventually try the Palladio and Prestige brands. But, if I had to chose, I would say the Rimmel Exaggerate eyeliner in Sable because it's my perfect brown colour.

  15. Liquid Waterproof eyeliner by Essence is the best water proof eyeliner I've tried that is affordable ($3.29). The applicator is not the best but I absolutely like the staying power.

  16. My go-to drugstore eye pencil is the Milani Liquid Eye (they recently changed "Liquif-eye" to "Liquid Eye"). My go-to drugstore gel liner is the Maybelline one, whichever that is.

I actually don't have a favorite liquid liner--they have ALL flaked or smudged on me--even high-end one's or what EVERYONE raves about (including the Jordana Fabuliner, Makeup Forever, Urban Decay, etc.). I wonder if I'm doing something wrong?

Will be looking into what everyone else is using...

I'll be looking out for people's suggestions on good drugstore liquid liners.

I will be looking out for suggestions for an intense black liquid liner from commentators here.

    1. The Rimmel Glam Eyes black liquid liner is amazing. I think it's the Glam Eyes. They used to only have one option and now they have two. The one that has a super skinny brush applicator as opposed to a sponge applicator is AMAZING (and I think that's the Glam Eyes one).

  17. For pencil, I currently switch between the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips (for brown eyes) and Prestige Total Intensity! I LOVE the pigment and smoothness in the Prestige liners, but sharpening them can be a total pain in the a** so whenever I'm running low on time I just grab the PF ones, haha.

I also love the Maybelline Lasting Drama gel liners. But again, being perpetually low on time, I haven't used mine in a while since pencils are just so much more convenient :P And better for tightlining!

  18. I have to go with PF gel liners for blue eyes. I did not like the brush so I swapped out a very fine old liquid liner brush. This applies easily for me. My absolute holy grail was Almay Bright Eyes Defining Duo. It had black on one end and white on the other! I simply cannot believe to this day that they discontinued it and I can't find it ANYWHERE online, even Ebay! LOL

    2. Donna I saw these! I really really really would love the black and white combo! They went on like buttah! And such a jet black! I still yearn! Why do companies do this? Take away the superior and replace it with inferior ???

    3. Also Donna the one I am after is in a purple case and each end twists up

  19. I adore Prestige Total Intensity Liner in Bold Brown....I always have at least 2 backups. (as Ulta seems to always be out of this liner) I use this almost everyday, I have sensitive allergy eyes that tear alot and this doesn't smudge or budge. It's one of the onle pencils that I can tolerate on the waterline. I also have the black, teal, and purple version that I use occasionally~

  20. I actually prefer the brown Jordana liner to the black. I don't think the black is black enough, but I think the brown has more pigmentation and wears slightly better. I was disappointed with the black because so many people love it, but to each her/his own! My absolute favorite drugstore liner though is the original liquid liner in black by Rimmel. I think it's called Glam Eyes now or something...the one with the super skinny brush as opposed to sponge tip applicator. LOVE IT.

  21. Liquid: Wet 'n' Wild MegaLiner in black. It's my HG liquid liner. I love it so much I keep one in my purse, my backpack and in my makeup bag at home. It definitely stands up to Urban Decay and Mac.

Pencil: L'Oreal Color Chrome in black. This is the only liner I've found that STAYS on my waterline and doesn't smudge within the hour.

  22. Thanks for the suggestion G! My ($16) Kat Von D liner is drying out but I keep trying to make it last because I am stingy about paying for a new one. I stopped into Duane Reade and picked up the Jordana one since it has the same type of tip as what I'm used to using :) can't wait to try it!

  23. Usually I go straight for the pencil liners, which means that Milani Liquif'eye is my top choice. But if I have time and want to do a flick, Maybelline Lasting Drama is a close second.

  24. I actually prefer the Hard Candy waterproof felt tip liner in black. The color seems much more intense than the Jordana, and it wears a lot longer, on me anyway. Don't get the brown in this one either, though--it has almost zero pigmentation. I think Hard Candy is sold only at Walmart, and this liner runs about $5.

  25. Neutrogena the twist up black! i forget the name but its great better than milani, maybelline, and phys formula. I go through black eyeliner like theres no tomorrow, my all time fave is the nars pencils but at the rate i use it, well its just too expensive. This is my first comment btw, i found your blog about 2 months ago when i found your review of loreal magic bb cream. And im hooked! your weekly drugstore updates rock and i went crazy on the $6 urban decay sale.

  26. The prestige Total Intensity Eyeliners that you can find at Ulta and some rite aids. I have blue eyes so I always wear brown but I love all of the colors. They're even creamier than UD 24/7 liners. And at $5.50 each, you can't beat the price!!
