My latest meme, Olympic Edition.
Lipstick League Question of the Week:
What’s your current favorite body lotion/cream, and why?
G's answer: I mentioned this in my latest What I'm Loving Right Now post: Sebamed Moisturizing Body Lotion for Sensitive Skin. It smells like a bar of beautiful vintage soap, it doesn't leave my skin sticky or greasy, and it just makes my skin soooo soft. If you can pick it up on sale (it's kind of price) at CVS, I think it's perfect for warmer temperatures and I haven't been using anything but this lotion on my body for the past month.

What's your current favorite body lotion?
I whipped virgin coconut oil, glycerin and shea butter in the KitchenAid stand mixer and added in some Black Phoenix perfume oil. I keep it in the shower and slather it on my wet skin before I step out and towel off. So luxurious, so moisturizing and non-toxic!
ReplyDeleteWow. Now THAT'S a heavy-duty moisturizer. I already have two of those things in my beauty closet so maybe I'll do something like that once winter hits again. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteFor those with continually itchy or sensitive skin (and sick of using hydrocortisone or corticosteroids to deal with that), I highly recommend fragrance-free body lotions with a decent amount of colloidal oatmeal. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion is the old stand-by of these for me but the Target generic version of that (up & up daily moisturizing lotion) feels a tad thicker and feels so luxurious to spread.
For major flare-ups of irritation or itchiness, I use the Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream--bc this has higher levels of moisturizing ingredients--including a higher concentration of colloidal oatmeal.
I've tried all sorts of lotions/cremes over the years. By far the best thing I've ever used is plain old olive oil. I slather it on after I get out of the shower. I've really noticed the difference it makes. My boyfriens always comments on how soft my skin is :)
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying Yes to Carrots and Yes to Tomatoes body butters. The Carrots one seems to be a little heavier, so I apply that before I go to bed. They both quickly absorb into my skin, even though they do go on pretty thick. Love how they're making my skin feel.
ReplyDeleteI'm allergic to something in about 99% of body lotions. It makes me itch horribly. So I use a 50/50 blend of sweet almond and jojoba oil that I mix up at home with a few drops of lavender and lemon essential oils for scent. It's light enough that it doesn't make me feel greasy, smells fantastic, and pulls double duty as an emergency conditioner boost for those dry-ends days.
ReplyDeleteNivea Soft is the best in the world! I swear by it. It is on my nightstand. It is in my purse.
ReplyDeleteOther notables: Carmex Healing Lotion is wonderful. The smell reminds me of my childhood. Baby Magic Lotion (in the pink bottle) has kept my skin since I was a child. Before I discovered Nivea Soft, it was my go-to lotion. Right out of the shower, Vaseline Cocoa Butter Gel Body Oil is irreplaceable. I always have all these lotions in the home.
My favorite lotion for the past like 8 years has been the Trader Joes body lotion, currently called "A Midsummer Night's Cream", which sounds kinda dirty. But it's a fantastic lotion for a very low price, and is unscented, which I prefer.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great suggestions! I really like BBW body butters as well as body shop butter ( in satsuma) but I am getting tired of using cremes with so many extras- ie preservatives, parabens and petroleum based ingredients - so I am totally into thus whipping your own lotion up ! Awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteCrabtree & Evelyn.... stocked up at the outlet. Only $4!
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite is Lubriderm's Advanced Therapy lotion!
ReplyDeleteIt's been working wonderfully for my dry and sensitive skin! LOVE ^_^
