New beauty sample subscription service from Allure & Beauty Bar

This just hit my in-box and since I know a lot of you subscribe to beauty sample services, I thought you might like to know about this new collaboration. This service costs $15 per month and, in addition to the five deluxe samples, original content and gift code (details below), all members will also receive a one-year subscription to Allure Magazine.

BEAUTY BAR AND ALLURE MAGAZINE PARTNER TO LAUNCH SAMPLE SOCIETY

Beauty Samples and Expert Advice Delivered Monthly by the Ultimate Insiders

The premier beauty retailer, Beauty Bar, is collaborating with The Beauty Expert, Allure magazine, to introduce Sample Society—a breakthrough in beauty sampling. A members-only subscription service, Sample Society delivers the most exclusive samples of hair-care, makeup, skin-care and fragrance products plus expert information each month.

“Given the thousands of beauty products that are introduced each year, sampling just makes sense,” says Linda Wells, editor in chief of Allure. “Who can really buy all those products? Who has the time to try them all? With Sample Society, the products are edited, and the sizes are ideal for multiple uses—so you can really figure out if the product is right for you. And what I also love about it is that the box feels like a present. It offers the pleasure of discovery.”

A Sample Society membership introduces consumers to the latest trends and innovations in beauty through sampling. As members, customers receive the following every month:

  • Five deluxe-size samples from premium brands such as By Terry, Dermalogica, Fekkai Advanced, and Bond No. 9. Samples are deluxe-size, meaning they are intended for more than one use, allowing customers to truly experience and test products’ efficacy.
  • Original content written by Allure editors with each month’s samples, giving the customer relevant expert information that can optimize her experience and ultimately help her make purchase decisions.
  • A $15 gift code that can be used toward the purchase of any product from the featured brands received that month (not just the specific product sampled), meaning that each box pays for itself .

About Allure: Allure, the only magazine dedicated to beauty, is an insider’s guide to a woman’s total image.  Allure investigates and celebrates skin care, hair, makeup, fragrance, and fashion with objectivity and candor, and places appearance in a larger cultural context.

  1. Giselle: Please see the first paragraph of this post, which I just updated. The cost is $15/per month and you also get a 1-yr subscription to Allure Magazine. Hope that helps!

  2. Hey,$15 is not bad especially with a mag subscription. I'm already subscribed to 2 monthly beauty sample services so this is something I have to think about. Have you heard of Beauty Tube? It's like $30 every 3 months or something like that.

  3. I like the idea of this a lot and allure is my favorite magazine, but you have to make a $50 purchase to use the $15 credit. :(

  4. I've been told by them that you can also cancel the magazine subscription (after 30 days with Beauty Bar) and get a $15 refund. This essentially makes your first box free if you choose to cancel the magazine.

"If you do not wish to receive an Allure subscription (or you prefer to receive a refund for the value), please click here and mail your request - along with current (within 30 days) Sample Society proof of purchase (your $15 monthly membership fee) to: Condé Nast Special Programs, Sample Society, PO Box 37722, Boone, IA 50037-0722. Refund requests without completed forms or proof of purchase, or those received more than 30 days after the postmark on the refund request envelope will be forfeited."

The $15 code is off a $50 purchase. "$15 gift code to redeem on a $50 purchase - when any product from the brands you've sampled is included in your order."

The first Sample Society box ships March 5, 2012. The nice thing is they don't charge your credit card until near the time they ship. There will be a 1 cent charge on the debit/credit card used to sign up just to verify it's an active credit card.

I did sign up for this one as well as for the InStyle one (The Look Bag).

The Look Bag by InStyle costs $10 a month and you receive 20% off all merchandise on their main site The Look Store.

  5. @Everyday Makeup - "Beauty Tube"? Do you mean New Beauty Test Tube (NBTT)?

    There is also:

    Beauty Army
    Beauty Fix
    Birchbox
    Cravebox
    Eco-Emi
    Glossybox USA (coming soon)
GoGo Girlfriend (not recommended by many members of Makeup Talk)
    His Black Box
    Julep
Makeup Monthly (also not recommended by members of Beautylish)
    Male Box
    MyGlam
    My Platinum Box
    The Look Bag
QVC New Beauty Test Tube (same company that does the New Beauty one only this one has beauty items sold on QVC)
    White Apricot's Green Grab Bag

I think that covers all the ones in the US.

Both the NBTT and the QVC NBTT are quarterly which means they ship once every three months. Cost for each is $29.95 but shipping is different and with the QVC one there is tax (if applicable to the person ordering). My NBTT costs me $38.90 every three months while the QVC version costs me $40 (tax).

Out of ALL the subscription programs (and I've been subscribed to ten of the ones mentioned) the only one that's worth it is Birchbox which costs $10 a month. Why? Because of their perks system. In the nine months I've been a member I've earned enough points to basically pay for the monthly boxes PLUS I got a pair of Skullbuds Holua ($70) for the hubby plus tons of other men's products for FREE using my points (I redeemed 500 pts on a $45 box) PLUS ordered another $75.95 worth of merchandise and paid only $5.95 out of pocket. I love their perks system and they are the only in the US that has a fantastic perks system in place.

  6. I actually signed up for this, but only because I can cancel at any time. I'm thinking if it's mostly hair products for the first two months, I'm out. My short hair and I don't really care. On the other hand, I'm hoping for the some great Boscia and Lorac samples so I can use that discount!

  7. Just subscript, hope it will be great! Thanks G!

  8. Do you know if we're able to opt out some months? I love this idea, because it seems like you get more out of it than BirchBox, but I like how you can opt out with BirchBox if funds that month are a little slim!

  9. Beauty Bar does not have the option to skip months but The Look Bag does.
