Swatchfest: Hard Candy LE Holiday Mini Polishes

If you caught my post about the Hard Candy Limited Edition Holiday 2011 collections, you know that there are eight mini polishes that retail for $1 each in this collection. These should be hitting Walmart stores any minute now, and today I'd like to show you all eight shades.

Hard Candy Limited Edition Holiday Mini Polishes
(retail: $1 each, 0.13 oz)

Before I get into the swatches, I thought you might want to see what these minis look like next to a full-size bottle of Hard Candy polish, just for perspective:

All of the following photos were taken after three three coats of polish and one layer of clear top coat (no base coat). Some shades only required two coats for full opacity while others required three:

Some of the colors in this collection dry to a semi-matte finish, so I applied top coat to all of my nails so that you could better see the glitter in each shade. As you can see in the pic above, the purple shade is a little streaky after three coats, but it does have a very fine pink glitter running through it that is quite pretty in person.

Moving on to the hot pink polish, there is silver glitter running through this shade, which you can kind of see in the pic above. This is a really pretty color on the nail.

The orange shade has some pretty gold glitter running through it.

Would you believe that I do not own a gold glitter jelly? Well, until now, that it! These types of polishes were very popular in the 70s and 80s, so wearing this brought back a lot of memories.

The black polish is a creme with silver glitter. It was opaque after two coats.

The blue shade has a foil-like quality and I think it's even prettier in person.

The green glitter jelly is by far my favorite shade in the entire range. I love the bits of green, blue and gold glitter running through it. I don't have anything in my collection that looks quite like this.

The silver shade is hard to describe and my pics don't really do it justice. The glitter is in what I would call a semi-milky-sliver base. I'm curious to see what this would look like layered over a darker shade.

In summary, the stand-out shades for me are the green, blue and gold polishes. Some of these shades require two coats for good opacity, while others require three. The more metallic shades dry to a semi-matte finish. The orange and pink shades stained my nails a bit during removal, so if you get those, be sure to use a good base coat before application. I also would like to note that the gold and silver polishes have a stronger scent to them than the rest of the polishes. I'm not sure why (maybe it has to do with the ingredients needed to produce those colors?) but I just wanted to let you know about that in case any of you are sensitive to fragrance.

Looking at the pics in the press release, I wasn't expecting there to be such a nice variety of different finishes in this little collection! There's definitely something for every glitter lover out there.

Do you plan to pick up any of these polishes this holiday season? Please stay tuned because I'll be reviewing other products from the Hard Candy Holiday 2011 Collection a little later this week.

  1. Sweet, I love mini nail polishes, since I can never seem to finish regular sized ones before they dry out. I like the green color. :)

On a tangent, did you know that the first Hard Candy product was nail polish? :P

  2. I've never had good luck with Hard Candy polishes, in fact I still have last year's sets. I found the polishes to chip after a day then peel off. While these are a $1 each and the sets are only $5 and $10 each I personally will be skipping these this year

  3. I've been going to Wal-Mart's in my area every few days ever since I saw the press release. I can't wait to get them. I plan on getting them all.... and maybe 2 of the green :)

  4. These aren't bad colors but nothing unique. They seem way too sheer for my liking so I'll pass. I always love mini's at first then end up tossing them because they are difficult to use.
