Spreading the love & feeling the love!

I've been feeling so much love around here lately that I just want to share it all with you in any way I can (if I could, I'd drive to your homes and give each of you a big ol' bear hug, I swear!).

First off, I want to thank many of you for following me on Twitter recently. If you are a reader and I am not following you back (and you would like me to), please just say hi to me on Twitter so that I know who you are, and I will gladly follow you back! A lot of times, if your Twitter profile doesn't instantly identify you as a reader of this blog, I may accidentally think you're a spammer and I won't follow back. Also, there are a lot of people who create Twitter accounts just to retweet contest info, and don't WANT me (or anyone else) to follow you back. So if you're not in either of these categories, let me know you're a reader and I'll follow you ASAP. I love chatting with all of you via twitter, so please don't be shy!

Next, I want to spread the love and share with you some amazing blogs that I've recently added to my blog roll!
1) Funny Face's Place. Lillian's blog is one that I've been reading for a while now. She's in the UK, and if you haven't visited her adorable blog yet, it's a must-read for those of you who love COLOR in your makeup. Aside from being such a beautiful, quirky (I say that in the best way possible) and whimsical soul, Lillian is an artist and her artistic skills shine through in everything she does. Just take a peek at the dramatic and stunning looks she created for a recent Illamasqua "Elementals" contest:

Ice
Wind

2) BihadaDiaries. K lives in Japan, which means she often blogs about covet-able products we in the US can't have (or can have but just not easily or inexpensively). K. also blogs about US products and always has great insights to offer. And aside from pining over the wonderful Asian beauty products she reviews, I love K's non-beauty-related posts as well (I'm pretty obsessed with her step-by-step post about making Ume syrup). Look at these beautiful, vivid, Japanese plums!

3) Vex in the City. I knew I had an instant connection with "Vex" when I saw this line in her bio: " I'm scared of insects and will scream blue murder if so much as a butterfly comes near me." Ha! I too, have an irrational fear of insects, but that's not the only thing I love about this fashionable UK blogger! If you want a window into the glamorous side of UK fashion and beauty, but in a voice that tells it like it is, Vex in the City is your blog! Who knew that The Body Shop gave out these at UK blogger events??

so jealous!

4) Short And Sweet Nails. Seeing as I have short nails, how could I not be drawn to this blog by its name alone? Being a sucker for pretty pics of short, squared-off nails painted in beautiful colors, I was instantly drawn to this site just a few days ago, and now I cannot get enough. Plus, I've yet to see a polish on Dionela's blog that didn't make me swoon. I mean, look:

Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure over Revlon Gum Drop. Aaaaah.

Pop Beauty Ocean with China Glaze Millennium Konad Clouds. Um, adorable!

And now it's time for me to share a few of the reasons why I'm FEELING such love these days:

1) Last week I received this amazing write-up on MakeupOnTheCheap. Getting love from a fellow blogger whose site I read quite often is just one of the best feelings ever. Who doesn't love mutual admiration, right? Big thanks, once again, sweetie! :)

2) Just today, I discovered that I was featured in Beautiful With Brains' "Blogs We Love" feature (click here to check it out). Um, WOW! I just don't even know what to say about this one. I am humbled and honored by this write-up, so I hope you'll all check out Beautiful With Brains, as it's quickly becoming a fave of mine!

3) Yesterday I received a tweet proclaiming that I had made Latest Beauty's list of Top Ten Beauty Blogs. I quickly clicked on the link, only to discover that I'm in some pretty impressive company on this list! To think that a little blog like mine could make it onto a list like this just truly blows my mind. It really does. I can't think of the words to describe it. So thanks, Latest Beauty, for the wonderful shout-out.

That's it for today's lovefest but, as always, if you have (or own) a beauty blog that you'd like me to check out, leave a comment, tweet me, or email me the link. I'd love to see!

Bursting with love and gratitude,
R. xo

  18. I just discovered your blog and have been reading for hours since yesterday afternoon! I guess I should give a little background, I'm a 47 yr old stay at home mom who is native american and disabled. I rarely wear cosmetics, since I'm home all the time, but just recently I'm thinking, well, the heck with that, I want to look nice! And I just started purchasing more cosmetics and fixing myself up whether anyone besides my husband and kids is going to see me or not.

Anyway, this blog is perfect for me and my new cosmetics kick! I don't have a ton of money to spend on MAC or other top of the line brands, so I need to know what drugstore/Wal-mart type store brands are comparable and have staying power.

I have followed a few links to other blogs, but wasn't too impressed. Some of them only show how make-up looks on them, which is good for finding new color combinations and techniques, but I'm not interested in that (yet). This is why I love your blog, you also talk about your impressions of the quality of the products, how they go on, if they stay on all day, make recommendations for other brands if there is better out there, and of course talk about price comparisons and value. This is the information I want! It also doesn't hurt that your skin is oily like mine, so I really know how well these products will work with my skin type.

Sorry, I'm writing a blog post here! But I have a couple other things, first, I got my own haul from CVS and four of the products were different shades of SH Lacquer Shine Nail Color. I love these colors but I applied the last coat at about 6pm one night and went to bed at about 2am. When I woke up, I still had impressions from the bedding and my hair in my nails in the morning! WTH? It should be rock hard dried after that many hours, no? Anyway, I do not use a top coat, and hope you can recommend something that will dry fast and harden so that this will not happen again (or one of your readers.)

The other thing, on an old, old, old post, you had bought a Prestige eye liner in a dark green shade, you didn't like the dark color for daytime and it didn't have the lasting power on your lower lash line that you need. Have you tried using a swipe of eyeshadow to set your eyeliner? I usually only buy black eyeliner, but when I want color I use an eyeshadow and swipe green, purple, or blue etc to change the color and found that it also set the liner so that it's less likely to slide off into the raccoon eye look. You could kill two birds with one stone by choosing a light shade shadow to lighten the liner and set it.

  19. Donna: Your comment truly left me speechless. I cannot begin to express how happy I am that you've found my blog to be of help to you on your new "makeup journey".

I LOVE the fact that you're excited about "looking nice" even if you're at home. Now, don't get me wrong--I've spent many days at home with no makeup on, wearing sweats and my hair up in clip. But sometimes, even if I'm just at home and no one is going to see me for the day, it can lift my spirits just to put on a little lipgloss or a nice blush. So I totally get where you're coming from. I really do. Anything we can do to add a little joy to our days is a great thing, and I know from experience that fun makeup can make a bad day a little bit better. :)

As for a good top coat, I cannot recommend enough that you try out Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat. It's my all-time favorite. It dries almost instantly, it hardens quickly and it won't leave you with sheet or hair marks the next morning! Please let me know what you think of it if you try it, ok? And as for the Prestige liner, I have tried layering a little bit of eyeshadow over my eyeliner and it does work beautifully! Great tip and I'm glad that another oily-skinned gal is doing this too. :) Thanks again for the amazing comment, and I hope that you'll keep on commenting in the future! xo

  20. BrooklynShoeBabe: I just sent you a twitter request. :) Oh, and BTW, I don't see that you're following me (you're not on my follower list). No biggie, but I just wanted to let you know. :)

  21. I'll definitely get that SH Mega Shine.

I've still been reading every spare moment since yesterday. LOL

One thing I forgot, during the big CVS sale, several Lip Smackers were also marked down 50%. I bought a couple of Rollys for nostalgia's sake, makes me feel like I'm 12 again since it's one of the first "cosmetics" I ever bought. I put that in quotes because seriously, I just liked eating the gloss off my lips, (and trying to lure boys into kissing me with it,) and didn't care what it looked like.

In my CVS the Lip Smackers are out in never never land instead of anywhere near the other cosmetics, so no one found them during the sale. I only found them because pantyhose was on sale, which I needed, and the display is next to them. They might still be out there in other CVS stores, so if your readers what a cheap little fun deal they could check for them.
