Review: Hard Candy Button Your Lip Push Button Lip Gloss Pen

Of all the products I purchased during my recent Hard Candy haul, the Button Your Lip Push Button Lip Gloss Pen was, by far, the one I was the most curious about. A push-button lipgloss? How the heck does that work? Read on, my lovelies, and you shall see!

I purchased the shade "Innocence" which comes with a full-size Automatic Lip Liner in the shade "Natural". A pretty good deal for $8, right?

Let's take a look at the pen:

So how does it work? Well if you look at the left side of the pen in the above pics, you'll see the "clicker" that is exactly like a retractable ball-point pen. So what does the applicator look like?

Surprise! It's a brush tip, just like traditional click-pen glosses!

So basically what you do is push on the end of the pen to get the gloss to come out of the brush. Pretty neat! I actually like this better than the traditional "twist" pens (Stila, e.l.f., etc.). Maybe it's because it's different, but for some reason I like this new take on the click pen. And btw, it makes the same "clicking" noise as traditional click pen glosses.

Let's take a look at the liner:

This is your standard automatic liner pencil (I twisted it up a lot so that you could see the product) but I like the design on the packaging. Hard Candy really went all out with the packaging design of this new line.

So let's see some swatches:

From left to right: liner, gloss, gloss layered over liner

As you can see, the liner is a little on the dark side, but it's a really pretty "spice" type of shade that would work well with tons of different lip colors. I am absolutely in love with the color of this gloss. It is definitely a "your lips but better" shade that I think would look amazing on just about any skintone. And you can definitely darken the gloss up a bit by filling your lips in with the liner and layering the gloss on top.

Here are some pics of me wearing the liner (as a liner) with the gloss:

For me personally, the liner is just a teeny bit too dark to use with this gloss, so next time I'm going to try filling in my lips with the liner and then topping it with the gloss. Or heck, I'll probably use the liner with a different gloss or lipstick and wear this gloss alone. I really love this gloss on its own.

As for the fragrance and flavor? Let's just say that if you're a marshmallow lover, you NEED this gloss. It smells and tastes just like marshmallows and not toasted marshamallows--FRESH ones. I love it and I seriously can't get enough.

One more thing I'd like to add about this gloss--the staying power is incredible. I've talked in the past about how I'm a chronic "gloss-eater" (my term). I literally can put a gloss on and 10 minutes later it's gone. I just have a bad habit of licking my lips and also smooshing my lips together whenever I wear gloss, so I'm happy to report that even through my gloss-eating tendencies, this baby stayed put! It didn't move for at least an hour and even then, the fading was minimal.

For $8, I highly recommend the Hard Candy Button Your Lip Push Button Lip Gloss Pen with Bonus Lip Liner. You just can't beat the color, innovative packaging, staying power, fragrance and taste. Bravo, Hard Candy! I think this is my favorite product I've tried so far!
