The New L'Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara Has Landed in the US

Am I the only one who likes to follow drugstore beauty brands' international accounts on social media? Call me a glutton for punishment, but I love to see things we don't yet have here in the US (and sometimes may never get), which brings me to this new Voluminous Superstar Mascara from L'Oreal.

L'Oreal UK first started teasing this new mascara on their Instagram about five months ago with this photo. After that, they posted videos like this (there's audio, so turn your speakers down). From what I can tell, this released in UK drugstores a few months ago, but I really didn't think we'd get it here in the US this soon (or ever, as the case may be for certain things).

Surprise!

Many thanks to longtime reader Liz for this one:

(retail: $9.99, 0.41 oz.)

Liz found this new mascara at Walmart this week, and kindly shared info and pics with us. Keep reading for a closer look and the scoop on this new formula...

Liz found this mascara on one of those hanging strips in the beauty department at her local Walmart, and she said there were only two tubes on the strip. She also noted that the price was $9.99 (which, as Liz pointed out, is odd since most everything at Walmart ends in -97 or -98 when it comes to cents). Anyway, let's take a closer look!

As you can see, this is a two-step mascara. You have the white primer on one end, and the actual mascara on the other. Liz shared a closer look at each wand:

So how does this compare to L'Oreal's existing Double Extend Lash Extensions Mascara? Well that mascara is a tubing mascara, and I don't believe Superstar is a tubing formula. The "top coat" for this new Superstar mascara is described as "fiber-enriched," but no mention of tubes.

Our 1st mascara to give you show-stopping lashes in 2 effortless steps. The innovative 2-step system works to thicken and lengthen the look of lashes with Velcro fibres, for super-sized, super-long, Superstar lashes.
Step 1: SUPER-SIZING PRIMER
The super-sizing primer thickens the look of all lashes, while the corset shaped brush builds volume and prepares for step 2.
Step 2: SUPER-LENGTHENING TOP COAT
The lifting brush applies a black fibre enriched formula that perfectly coats the primer.Lashes look lifted and longer, dressed in intense black.

Really Ree has a review of this mascara HERE if you'd like to see it on her. She said that this mascara doesn't leave your lashes crunchy, which is always a good thing when it comes to these two-step formulas, right?

Have you spotted the new L'Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara in your area yet? Think you'll give this one a shot? I'm sure it will be popping up at all of the usual retailers any minute now. Oh, and this is a new, permanent mascara; not limited edition.

Thanks again, Liz, for the great sighting and pics. I really appreciate it!

  1. I'm always afraid the fibers will get in my eyes and irritate/scratch them. Also, I'm not wearing contacts but if I do in the future it seems like they could get under them and irritate...per Tati Westbrook (Glamlife Guru) on YouTube. Opinion?

    1. I've really only had issues with the fiber mascaras that have two separate tubes where one tube is the loose fibers and the other is the mascara. When the fibers are actually IN the mascara, that tends to not bother me at all...but your mileage may vary, if course! :)

    1. Omg I have such a love/hate relationship with the German Essence account. Lol! I love to see those collections, but I hate that we can't have them here!

  3. Hmmmm. I don't have high hopes for that one. The bristles on the brush remind me of Maybelline Great Lash.

  4. I may try this, since I have fallen back in love with L'Oreal mascaras. This is good to know!

  5. I tried it and love it! I had my doubts, but it held up really well, even after running for nearly an hour, no smudges! But, I'm sure individual results will vary:) Thanks for spotlighting this new find! I wouldn't have known about it otherwise!

  6. Don't waste your money not worth it. I used it and didn't see a difference. Not impressed.
