Revlon Autumn Spice (retail: $4.99, 0.4 oz)
Sinful Colors Leather Loose (retail: $1.99, 0.5 oz)
The polishes in the Sinful Colors Leather Luxe Collection dry to a matte finish, so we're obviously not going to get a good idea of just how similar these two shades are unless I apply top coat to Leather Loose. BUT, just in case you were curious:
With top coat applied to Leather Loose (I did not apply top coat to Autumn Spice):
Not dupes, even with top coat. The base color of Leather Loose is darker and more purple, whereas the base color of Autumn Spice is lighter and more brown-based. Also, the flecks in Leather Loose aren't just gold and bronze--there are some fine multi-colored flecks as well, whereas the flecks in Autumn Spice are gold and bronze and there's also a pinkish-red flash to them at certain angles.
Also, Leather Loose goes on quite sheer on the first coat (two coats yields perfect opacity) whereas Autumn Spice is practically a one-coater.
Conclusion: Not dupes. If anything, they're cousins. If you love these types of shades, I'd say you probably "need" both. Leather Loose is gorgeous when worn in its original matte form but when worn shiny, my heart belongs to Autumn Spice (plus it smells delicious). I'm glad I own both!
I hope this helps those of you who own already own Leather Loose and are considering purchasing Autumn Spice. Do you think you "need" both? Do you prefer one over the other?

I have Leather Loose and am in LOVE this this color and formula. (I'm wearing Cold Leather from the same collection as I type this!) I can't imagine needing Autumn Spice, although I'm sure it smells nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comparison! I grabbed Leather Loose, but I'm still dying to get Autumn Spice.
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you so much for posting this, G! I was actually wondering about these when I saw your post with the swatch of Autumn Spice, and I was literally just headed out to see if the Walgreens or Rite Aid near me still had Leather Loose. I think I'll hold out for Autumn Spice!
ReplyDeletei had "leather loose" in my hands yesterday and put it down. ended up getting "get it on" instead- which is a beautiful color, btw. going back to get leather loose tomorrow, lol
ReplyDeleteYep, cousins. But if I don't have them side by side, I think I can get away with Loose Leather since I can have the best of both worlds. And, by the way, what is Loose Leather??!
ReplyDeleteI would guess kinda like another way of saying broken-in?...or maybe a leather jacket, pants etc. that are a couple of sizes larger than what fits? Lol
DeleteI think "Leather Loose" is supposed to be a play on "let her loose", given the other names in the collection, ie. "Get It On", "Whipped", "My Turn", etc.
DeleteAny tips on putting a top coat over sinful colors mattes? I put one over cold leather yesterday and today I had crackle.
ReplyDeletei used seche vite topcoat over sinful colors' "get it on" and i had no problem with it. what topcoat brand are you using?
DeleteOr use Out the Door. I like Essie's All-in-One as well.
DeleteI looked into it. Evidently, Poshe over these mattes are causing ripples/cracking.
Deleteaw wow i love the matte version of leather loose, its so nice, i definitely need to get my hands on this!
ReplyDeleteI like Autumn Spice better. And as a sidenote, will Sinful Colors PLEASE note somewhere on their label that a polish is matte?!
ReplyDeleteI know, I had no idea until now, and I have it but haven't swatched yet obviously. Huh.
DeleteHope these come to the UK soon.Love them!
ReplyDeleteThis is good to know G.! I am wearing Loose Leather right now and it is so gorgeous with top coat! I know alot of women like it without but I don't at all. The sparkle is too gorgeous top coated. I did want Autumn Spice b/c of the pumpkin scent and since I know they are not dupes then I definately won't feel bad about buying it if I ever find them. (as if I would feel bad anyway ;) )
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comparison G! Looks like I will be hunting for Autumn Spice!
ReplyDeleteSo because there is no map for the Revlon Perfumerie collection, that means it's permanent?! Oh gosh I hope so, I'm obsessed with them. I bought Autumn Spice yesterday because of your review and I also picked up Wintermint which I have yet to try.
ReplyDeleteI don't have access to these, but If I had I would be unable to choose - I would get both in a split second!
