I purchased three of the four limited edition Color Sensational Lipsticks (there's also a pinkish-fuchsia in the collection) and I'm excited to show these to you today, in case you were thinking of getting some.

Violet Intrigue is my favorite of the three that I purchased. It's the most opaque and creamy and the coverage is very impressive. I also think that even though it's a purple-based color, it has enough warmth to it to make it wearable on a variety of skintones-- it's definitely the most wearable of the three. There was some talk on Instagram when I posted a sneak peek of these lipsticks that this shade looks like it might be very similar to the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids shades, Brazen Berry. I don't own Brazen Berry but judging from the swatches I've seen online (check out April's swatch here), I'd say they do appear to be similar.
Lavender Voltage is a bright, intense purple that goes on a bit streaky. You can sort of see the streaks on my lips in the above photo, and this pic was taken after I tried my hardest to get even coverage. After going back and forth on my lips several times, I still saw a few streaks (although they're definitely not as visible in real life--keep in mind that these photos are extreme close-ups!). The color is gorgeous and bright, but it's definitely not going to work for all skintones. If you're a purple lipstick lover, I think that maybe you'll have better luck if you fill your lips in with a similar shade of liner first, before you apply this lipstick. This will ensure more even coverage.
Midnight Plum is a deep, intense black plum shade that, again, goes on a bit streaky. This is fairly common for shades of this nature, so I wasn't terribly surprised by the uneven coverage. I do think that it looks far less streaky from a normal viewing distance but again, I would suggest filling your lips in with a similar shade of liner prior to applying this one. This shade is similar to Milani Black Cherry, but Black Cherry has more of a reddish undertone whereas this one is more plum-based.
Additional thoughts: I'mt not reviewing the Color Sensational lipstick texture, staying power, etc. here today because I've done that many times in the past. But if you're new to Color Sensational lipsticks, they're quite creamy and hydrating (to me at least) and the staying power is good. All three of these colors leave a nice stain behind as they wear off, but do be aware that the fragrance/flavor of these lipsticks is a bit polarizing. Some people simply cannot stand the flavor/fragrance, but I actually enjoy both. To me, there's a "creamy floral" fragrance here, and the flavor is sort of "creamy" as well. To others, they smell/taste like plastic. So yeah, your mileage may vary.
Do you own any of the Fall 2013 Limited Edition Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks? Do you think any of these shades might work for you? They're definitely bold, but I like that about them. They give me a bit of "attitude" when I wear them!
Be sure to check back for my upcoming review of the High Shine Lipglosses I also purchased from the collection...coming soon! And just a reminder: these products are now popping up at Bed Bath & Beyond stores that have an extended beauty department. I expect to see them surface at CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid within the next week or so...

Wow, these are not for the faint of heart! They are pretty on you for sure, but too dark for me! :)
ReplyDeleteI really want violet intrigue! I love purple lipsticks and have been looking for one like this! Also I think brazen berry is a bit warmer and more "neon" ish but I don't own it so...
ReplyDeleteOooh, yay! Purple lipsticks are so fun! I'm really loving the lighter two shades; I think Violet Intrigue looks GREAT on you <3
ReplyDeleteI kind of want Lavender Voltage just because the number on it is 1000!
ReplyDeleteI just bought one of the new lip glosses, chocolate lust. It is very pigmented but I was able to sheer it out some and like it for fall. I love the glosses and lipsticks!
ReplyDeleteI have never even considered trying a purple lipstick, but that's why I'm so glad I found your blog! Seeing your swatches makes me want to try Violet Intrigue! I think it will be a fun addition to my makeup collection for the upcoming Fall season.
ReplyDeleteNeed need need :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link back!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find these in my area but I cant, so I have a friend that's gonna CP it for me. I'm really excited to get my hands on these pretties!
Purple lipsticks make me look dead. I wish I could wear them.
ReplyDeleteOoh, these colors look great! I think all of them are likely to work with my skintone.
ReplyDeleteI like the Violet. As much as the other two are gorgeous, I think they can be a bit garish on me.
ReplyDeleteWow. I seriously love all three of these.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I find these, I have looked everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI want these sooooo badly, bt can't find them anywhere! Trying to convince myself that the MAC Plum Dandy I already own is a dupe for at least one f them.
ReplyDeleteI just bought Lavender Voltage and it's gorgeous - really bright and blue-based and sassy. I'm so in love. It's my favorite purple by far.
ReplyDeleteI just spotted these in a Walgreens near me!! I was highly confused because I thought they were BB&B exclusive!?
