Goodbye crackles and magnetics, hello duochromes! It looks like that's the hottest new trend for drugstore nail polish this year, and thanks to reader Noonish, I've got the facts to back it up! Noonish just left a comment on the You Tell Me page and included a great picture as well.
Noonish writes:
Ok I don't think you've mentioned anything like this yet, but in the September 2012 issue of Nylon magazine they have a beauty page with some products on it. One is something called Sally Hansen Lustreshine polish. The color looks to be like a bit of a Chanel Peridot dupe type of color?? It's called Plume according to Nylon's page.

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Nail Color in Plume
(retail: $8)
The image above is a photograph of a page from the September issue of Nylon Magazine (print edition). Noonish is absolutely right--it looks like a Chanel Peridot dupe (or maybe a Maybelline Boho Gold dupe!).
Thanks so much, Noonish, for the heads-up about this new collection. I can't wait to find these polishes in stores (hopefully they'll start popping up soon!).
Thank goodness! I was getting sick of all the crackles and magnetics! Sure they were cool the first few times, but really who needs more than a few shades of either, if any! Now duochromes, I LOVE duochromes! They never lose their appeal. :)
ReplyDeleteYAY! Duochromes are my favorites. Or multichromes!
ReplyDeleteMagnetics never caught on for me, and I'm all crackled out, though it IS nice to see once in a while. A good duochrome can become a lemming in an instant.
ReplyDeleteExciting!!! Hopefully Sally Hansen brings back some of the awesomeness that I'm always hearing about on nail blogs! This looks promising!
ReplyDeleteOne can never be too thin or rich or have too many duochromes.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love duochromes everyone seems to be putting out the same 5 variations. It's already boring, I have like 6 bottles of the one that looks like Chanel Peridot which is what is pictured in that ad....I need another like I need another hole in my head lol. I wish someone would put out more unique duochromes if they are going to do it. I seriously wouldn't be surprised if these Sally Hansen ones include all the same shades we've seen already from Nicole by OPI and China Glaze :(
ReplyDeleteI hope they do some duochromes that aren't metallic. I'm not great at applying nail polish, so a lot of the time metallics look messy on me. But that's about all they seem to be coming out with. :(
ReplyDeleteYay!! Back in the day Sally Hansen had some of the best Duo/multichromes in their Prismatics collection!
ReplyDeleteDuh, Not Prismatics, I meant Nail Prisms...anyway, I hope they bring some of those back!
ReplyDeleteITA,with Amelania.I'd like to see Sally Hansen bring back some of the gorgeous duochrome goodness like polishes they did from the Opal collection,or was it Prisms? Either way,I love duochromes, although I am not that fond of Channel Peridot or any of it's dupes, just not my color.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda hoping these will be triochromes (?) like the ones Orly put out in their special FX space collection that came out a few years ago. M.A.C had similar ones too and then Hard Candy duped Orly Space Cadet with Beetle. I have the HC one but I've always wanted more drugstore dupes!
ReplyDeleteI love HC Beetle!...Anyway, I just spotted these Lustre Shine polishes at my local Walmart. They are a bit over $6. They Look amazing but do I really need more polish? LOL (YES!)
DeleteIt sure looks like a Peri-dupe but they mention purple in the description...hmm! Can't wait for this collection!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone can do duo/multichromes Sally Hansen can. Their old collections were fantastic and I am hoping the new ones live up to their reputation. Bring them on!
ReplyDeleteDuochromes are the bomb! It's about time metallic duos became the big trend.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for drugstore dupes if they're at drugstore prices. If these Sally Hansens are going to be the same cost, more or less, as OPI, China Glaze, etc., I'd rather have the latter. Just MHO.
ReplyDeleteI saw an image on Instagram... I am soooo excited for this look.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad duochromes are becoming more popular. I wasn't into the crackle or magnetic trend, but I'm a sucker for duochrome.
ReplyDeleteJen has an excellent point-- there's good reason to suspect that these will be dupes of extant colors from recent collections. But I'm cautiously excited!
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! They remind me of the new maybelline color show fall nail polishes (:
ReplyDeleteWhat i would like to see is some non sheer pale or pastel duochromes - then i'd get excited :)
ReplyDeleteOoohhh does my cat ears hear? New chrome polishes from Sally Hansen! Must find and get! :3
ReplyDeleteI love duochromes :)
ReplyDeleteDuochromes and multichromes, oh YUM! I'm a big fan of this trend (I also love magnetics and crackles, but that's me, always hanging on to awesome things long after the novelty's worn off for everyone else).
