Sinful Colors Seaweed & Adventure Island (with a little visit from Green Ocean)

The moment I saw the display for the new Sinful Colors Adventure Island collection at Rite Aid, I knew I had to get at least two of the new shades featured in the collection (FYI, some of the colors in the display are repromotes while some are brand new shades).

I purchased Seaweed and Adventure Island because I just couldn't think of any similar shades in my stash. At this point, I have two criteria for purchasing drugstore polish: 1) Do I absolutely love the color? 2) Do I already own anything similar/identical? If the answer to #2 is "yes" then I try as a hard as possible to not make a purchase!

Sinful Colors Seaweed and Adventure Island
(retail: $1.99 each)

Right off the bat let me tell you that both of these shades applied like a dream. Two coats for fantastic opacity, and the consistency was perfect for both. Not too thin, not too thick; just right. Oh how I love a good creme polish! They practically paint themselves.

As I applied these shades, I kept thinking of my lovely reader T-Rex's words: "dirty pastels". So true! Both of these shades have a dirtiness to them that I absolutely love. I don't know...it just makes them more...interesting on the nail (to me, at least).

Sinful Colors Seaweed

There's NO denying that Seaweed is a dupe for OPI Stranger Tides (take a look at Amber's swatches and you be the judge). I LOVE Seaweed because it's not your typical sage green. There's an extra drop of gray in this shade that gives it that murky, dirty quality.

Sinful Colors Adventure Island

While there is not clear dupe match-up to any shade in the OPI Pirates collection, this doesn't mean that Adventure Island isn't gorgeous in its own right. I have a hard time pulling off straight-up yellows (they give me "lobster claws", aka red fingers) but since this is a murky, dirty, pastel chartreuse, it doesn't seem to bring out the red undertones in my skin quite as much as a true yellow. If you love chartruese but you don't love the borderline-neon versions that usually appear at the drugstore, Adventure Island is for YOU.

And finally, since there's an ocean theme going on with these polishes, I thought it would be fun to show you what both shades look like when layered with a coat of everyone's favorite affordable flakie, Sinful Colors Ocean Green:

I love Ocean Green over Adventure Island! I think it gives it a cool, seaweed-like quality.

Before I end this post, I want to list the OPI Pirates dupes in the Sinful Colors Adventure Island collection (a HUGE thanks to so many of you for the info!):

Sinful Colors Seaweed = OPI Stranger Tides
Sinful Colors Starfish = OPI Sparrow Me The Drama
Sinful Colors Open Seas = OPI Mermaid's Tears
Sinful Colors Verbena = OPI Planks A Lot

Do you own any of polishes from the Sinful Colors Adventure Island Collection? If so, what shades did you get? If not, do you have your eye on any of these colors?

  11. Seaweed is very pretty! I wasn't into greens very much and I remember picking up Sinful Colors Innocence-the one that reminds me of smashed peas....but I absolutely LOVE it! I'll have to be on the lookout for Seaweed.

  12. Thanks for mentioning Ocean Green - does anyone know of other "affordable flakies"? Missed the Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure boat and am trying not to order Nubar 2010 online if I can find something retail.

  13. Those two greens are my faves of the collection, too. To my eyes, they look "fresh" despite the "dirty" description. Like someone else said, these colors haven't been done to death lately. And they do remind me of murky sea water! Which makes me want to go to the beach.
