Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure "Chrome & Stone" Collection

Please forgive me if I got the name of this collection wrong, but when I snapped a photo at my Rite Aid yesterday I wasn't aware that the name at the top of the collection was cut off. I think it was "Chrome & Stone" but I'll have to double-check next time I'm there to be sure.

Anyway, I am actually befuddled by these Complete Salon Manicure shades because I can't really make sense of exactly what's new and what's not. At my local Target, I saw SEVERAL shades in the regular display that are NOT apart of the display that I've been seeing at CVS, Walgreens, etc. At Target there are some beautiful new blues and a soft buttery pastel yellow that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Now to make things even more confusing, this display has (I believe) old and new shades:

Looking back at the pics of the original display that I spotted at CVS back in December (click here to see that), it appears that the silver chrome, rose chrome, black and Commander in Chic (on the far right in the above pic) were all apart of that display AND this display. However, the gold chrome and the blue-gray shade appear to be new (and I don't think I saw these two in the Target display).

Whew! At any rate, I couldn't resist that dophin blue-gray so I bought it because, REMINDER, all cosmetics are 25% off at Rite Aid right now (the last day of the sale is tomorrow, Saturday!) so I snagged this for around 5 bucks.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Gray by Gray

This pic, taken in natural light without flash, is a far more accurate representation of the true color, however it's still pulling a bit more blue than it does in real life. I would call this a dolphin gray creme with blue undertones. I love it, because you just don't see shades like this too often in drugstores.

In these pics I used ONE coat (I used Orly Bonder Base Coat and Sally Hansen MegaShine Top Coat). Seriously, one coat of this polish is all you need for totally opacity.

So, are you as confused by these new shades by Sally Hansen as I am?

  1. Hi

I'm not really confused, just annoyed at Sally Hansen. The Complete Salon Manicure display that you posted on 12/10/09 is the non-permanent display. My Walgreens had that and the Complete Salon Manicure permanent display installed into a counter. There was also a pamphlet showing all the colors of the line. The permanent display had all the colors from the non-permanent display and also the colors you showed in this post. Basically, it's Sally Hansen trying to get us to buy more polishes because their website (they finally updated) makes it look like all the new displays of Complete Salon Manicure, Xtreme wears, and Insta-dries are of new colors being added to the permanent line. If I'm right then it's better to wait for the rare BOGOF instead of all the BOGO50% since the colors should still be there. (I'm really cheap lol) Again, love your blog thanks for all the posts!

  2. i was wondering if you were aware of ingredients like mineral oil and how bad they are for your skin, I don't know that much about it but i looked it up here: http://skincare.lovetoknow.com/Mineral_Oil_Lotions
and did you know that it was in very popular and expensive products such as Creme de la Mere? Which i think is weird because mineral oil is just cheap oil that the oil companies cant use and sell to cosmetics companies for cheap. Anyway it would be awesome if you could look into this and maybe inform other readers and offer some alternatives?

  3. Oh, man, that's such a lovely color. I wish I had seen this post earlier, because the snow is really coming down and I know I'm not getting to Rite Aid before the sale ends. :(

(Yes, SC has fallen to the Snowpocalypse. I thought I was at least two hours too far south for that.)

  4. colormepinkenblue: Thanks SO much for clearing that up a bit! :) I knew that the display I saw in December was the permanent one, but I just got very confused that that they would introduce new shades and put them directly into the permanent display without bringing them out into a counter display first. And then when I saw this new counter display, and saw OLD colors, I got even more confused! So thanks a million for explaining that they're ALL part of the permanent collection. That makes me feel a lot less frantic about having to buy them when I see them! :) xo

colombianaj93: Thanks for your comment--believe me, I am VERY aware of the controversy about mineral oil. In the last several years, I've read so many pros and cons about mineral oil that it has made me dizzy! Baby Oil is usually 100% pure mineral oil and if the FDA hasn't pulled all baby oils from the shelves, I'm not overly concerned about a small amount in lotions and creams. Of course that could all change if they release new studies, but for now, if this is a real concern for YOU, then I would just go to the organic/natural section of your local drugstore and you will find TONS of moisturizers there that are mineral-oil-free and won't break the bank.

I personally know a lot of people who try to steer clear of all products containing mineral oil, and I also know a lot of people who have great experiences with it and find that it really helps improve the texture of their skin. So, as with everything else, do your research and do whatever feels best for YOU, ok? I would never, ever try to persuade you or any of my other readers one way or the other on this subject. That's totally up to you, ok? Good luck! :)

  5. Leigh: Oh wow, Snowmageddon has hit SC? Wow, it's even crazier than I thought it was over there on your side of the country! Well, stay warm, and Gray by Gray will be there for you when you're ready (and hopefully there will be a BOGO soon). xo

  6. Woah, love that gray! But I want a brighter color for spring (like Essie Van D'go). Would have totally bought that last winter *sigh*

By the way, a while ago you mentioned you would have the complete list of ELF products coming to Target. o: Will you be posting that soon? I'm super excited for it!

  7. I think it's just a lure to the new line. The gold, I think it's called Gilt-y or some such, right? I think Mary of Body and Soul swatched it, I've been studiously ignoring it! Same with the "gray" that's not quite a gray, which I quite like, but I'm on this not paying that much money for a polish at a drugstore unless it's on sale kick. Honestly, the only one I don't recognize is that rose metallic in between the gold and the silver.
Recessionista, check and see if your store doesn't have two displays of these Sally Hansens - mine has! They have a partial display and then a full built in one. That may be where your buttery yellow has been hiding, it's Yellow Kitty and it's SO cute.
Can't stop staring at your swatch!

  8. I totally think these are all perm colors. I know I saw Gray by Gray at Walgreens in a permanent-looking display last month. Isn't that frustrating? Especially when there's been such drama about finding the Sally Hansen shades that actually ARE limited edition... it seems like teasing to put a display like this together, making permanent colors LOOK like LE ones. :)

  9. Shao: lol! Sadly, I never, ever pay attention to seasons when it comes to nail polish anymore (I've been known to wear blue-blacks in the middle of summer) so this actually does feel like a "springtime" shade to me! lol! And yes, I will have that complete list very soon--hopefully this week, according to my e.l.f. contact! I'll definitely keep you posted, and thanks so much for asking. :)

    Jakeline: You're welcome! :)

Nicole: Sheesh, this whole thing is so confusing! Thanks for helping me to make sense of it all. You know, I swear I saw that rose metallic in the partial display (the pics I posted in December). So I don't think that's new either. And is the gray that's not quite a gray that you mentioned "Gray by Gray" (the one I swatched on this post)? If so, I LOVE it! You totally need it in your life. lol. And thanks for letting me know the name of that buttery yellow. I really, really want that and I'm glad to know it's part of the permanent collection. I am going to look for a permanent display at every drugstore in my area now. Thanks so much! :)

Beck: It IS frustrating! And you're totally right--we don't need this confusion on top of trying to find the *real* LE polishes, which are hard enough to find already! Thanks for confirming that Gray by Gray IS a part of the perm display. I'm bummed that I got suckered into getting it thinking it might go away soon, but then again I did get it for around 5 bucks so at least I didn't pay full price for it! :)
