You may recall that last year I mentioned in a beauty news round-up that MAC was looking to expand its presence and possibly offer their products at additional retailers. Well guess what? It's happening!
Today, WWD.com reported that MAC is coming to Ulta. MAC will be on the Ulta website starting May 7th but you'll be able to browse the selection starting on April 23rd by clicking HERE. In June they will roll out the brand in 25 stores (by the end of 2017, Ulta expects MAC to be in 100 stores).
The WWD article shares some insights as to how many products will be available through Ulta:
On average, MAC will occupy 200 square feet per store and the product assortment will be limited to 600 stockkeeping units, Buglisi Weiler said. While that number is on a par with Ulta’s big makeup brands — LancΓ΄me, Urban Decay and Clinique — it is a smaller total than the roughly 1,200 sku’s MAC has in departments stores and the 1,500 sku’s in its own brand boutiques. Simon said the Ulta curation represents about 45 percent of MAC’s product universe and the individual items were picked in close collaboration between brand and store, playing to MAC’s heritage and Ulta’s penchant for crisp editing.
So you should expect to see the same size product selection for MAC at Ulta that you currently see for brands like UD, Lancome, and Clinique at Ulta. In other words, not as many products as you can find at Macy's and other department stores, but this won't be a teeny tiny, pared-down selection. As the article mentions, the selection will be "about 45% of MAC's product universe."
Ulta has really been stepping it up lately in terms of bringing in new brands. I know a lot of us were excited when they starting selling NARS cosmetics, and just last week they starting selling L.A. Girl Cosmetics and Nudestix. They've also beefed up their selection of e.l.f. cosmetics and BH Cosmetics. Adding MAC to their list of brands means more opportunities to rack up (and use) Ulta points, and hopefully MAC won't be excluded from future 20% off prestige events. Fingers crossed.
What are YOUR thoughts about MAC coming to Ulta?
What in the entire world!! Excuse me while I pass out!!! I can't wait. I see you ULTA!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL right??? ;)
DeleteThis is pretty cool news! I'm not a die-hard MAC fan, but this is kind of exciting. I'm just thinking about the 20% off prestige coupons that can now be used on MAC items. Can't wait to see the roll out. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome! And yep, like I mentioned up top, my fingers are crossed that MAC isn't excluded from the 20% off prestige coupons! Sending positive coupon vibes our way as I type this. Lol! ;)
DeleteHow amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm super excited too! ;)
DeleteI saw it when I searched for mac on the ulta site! I then saw Ultas instagram post! Excited!!
ReplyDeleteYes! I just updated my post with the link to the preview page/countdown clock! So exciting, right? :D
DeleteSHUT THE FRONT DOOR!! Seriously!!! This is AWESOME! I can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteLol I'm super excited as well!! And just as I have a boatload of points saved up. The timing couldn't be better. ;)
DeleteUlta won 2017.
ReplyDeleteLol they're definitely on a roll!
DeleteThere are some MAC products that I love and will love to buy and I'm glad it's in store at Ulta so a can browse and experiment with it. In MAC stores and in places like Macy's I get too intimidated and just walk away
ReplyDeleteI totally understand, R. I've had both super positive experiences at MAC counters and also a few very negative ones. It's a roll of the dice for me, most times. Some days Ive been treated like a queen by an employee who is incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. But a few times I've been ignored completely, which made me feel like total crap. Hopefully this entry into Ulta will be a great way for those who feel intimidated by MAC counters and/or stand-alone stores to experience the brand in a different way.
DeleteTotally agree, I'm really excited about this. Ulta gets most of my beauty dollars these days already, now, it's a wrap!
DeleteI just saw Ulta's post on Facebook and actually screamed. I can't wait to be able to use my points on MAC!
ReplyDeleteLol glad to hear you're happy with this news! :)
DeleteI can't wait! MAC is only available at C.C.O. near me in Iowa. I wonder how we find out which stores will be getting it in June? Thanks for the terrific news!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome! I don't know if they'll offer some type of store locator, but I'm guessing when June rolls around you'll be able to use the "Find in Store" option in the item listings on the Ulta site to see if any of your local stores carry the line. :)
DeleteMy poor wallet.
ReplyDeleteMy only thought about this is Oh My Dog, I am dead now! :-D
ReplyDeleteMAC really is trying to expand their presence. Birchbox is also starting to carry their products.
ReplyDeleteYeeeeees!!!! I am so excited about this! I prefer Ulta to other stores (coupons, points program, drugstore + highend, etc.) -- and I am flippin' pumped to have more options. My only question is -- what's next G.?! I feel like you have the magic touch!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! I don't have any MAC products so maybe now I'll be able to try some stuff out! Also, Ulta started to carry Models Own online (and apparently in-store too!) and I'm so excited. I love how Ulta is getting all of these new brands!
ReplyDeleteUlta is going to surpass Sephora here soon. Their reward system is the best out there and with Ulta getting more & more higher end brands (and just more brands in general ) they are going to rule!
ReplyDeleteI mean being a VIB Rouge for the first time ever has really not wowed me at all. But Ulta is constantly offering multipliers on their points so right now I have over $200 in free merchandise waiting for me through their points. Sephora 's point system is meh.
I totally agree they will surpass sephora.. I live that you can get high and low end stuff and other hba stuff at ulta.
DeleteYep, they already surpass Sephora for me for the same reasons. This just put them over the top even more! :)
DeleteUlta just added a whole bunch of Models Own products as well: http://www.ulta.com/brand/models-own
ReplyDeleteI would freak out if they started selling more UK based brands!
AAAHHH, that's AWESOME! WOOT!
ReplyDeleteG, what are your Mac must-have products?
ReplyDeleteMAC is at Birch box too !!
ReplyDeleteAwesome... Looking forward to itπππ
ReplyDeleteNot to be negative, but it makes me wonder what Ulta will choose to give up in store to free space for Mac.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I have tried very few Mac products because the closest retail location is two hours away. Like others have said, it is a bit intimidating to go into a Mac store and just play with the products. I have only done so once. It's great that the brand will be accessible to those of us not near a major urban retail center.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see any brand come to Ulta or Sephora but Ulta's points are better. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteNow if they would just stop selling in China where animal testing is mandatory.....
ReplyDeleteI honestly think this is really bad for Mac as a brand. They're no longer seen as a fancy, exclusive line.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. MAC never used to have sales or discounts like they are having now. I appreciate the fact that some items will be available at Birchbox and Ulta giving them a wider audience. It just seems that they are realizing they have lost some of their "mystique" and that they have more competition. I'm thinking that MAC will be excluded from most of the prestige 20% coupon deals though. And will ULTA get the new collections or will just the permanent items will be there?
DeleteInteresting move! I do wonder if MAC will eventually do away with their stand-alone stores - those are expensive to operate! This news doesn't affect me since there are no Ulta stores in Canada. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteSHUT UP!
ReplyDeleteI am SO excited!!!
ReplyDeleteHoping that ALL MAC items will be available online at ulta.com
