The Lipstick League Question of the Week
In honor of Prince, share with us your all-time favorite purple makeup product (and your all-time favorite Prince song).
G's answer: My favorite purple makeup product of all time is the Wet n Wild Fall 2014 limited edition Megalast Matte Lipstick in Bordeaux Boulevard (it's one of the few purple lipsticks that has ever worked really well for me). As for my all-time favorite Prince song? That's impossible to narrow down, but I would have to go with Purple Rain. No wait. Take Me with U. OK, it has to be a tie between those two. But I also love the songs that Prince wrote but did not perform (or were best known by other performers)--especially Nothing Compares 2 U. I need to stop now before the tears come back (again). RIP Prince. Nothing will ever compare 2 U.

There are so many good Prince songs!
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!
DeleteNaming a favorite Prince song is like buying only one lipstick...impossible! So I'll go with Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette followed up with Starfish and Coffee. My favorite purple makeup would be asphyxia by UD. It's the first non drugstore makeup I bought! Eons ago.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but you picked some great ones! And aaaah, I totally remember old school Asphyxia! I also remember how "scandalous" it seemed at the time to name a makeup product like that!
DeleteI love a good purple eyeshadow. I don't have a favorite in particular but it's normally a shade that is Prince Purple, lol. My favorite song is Raspberry Beret. He was a true artist. My favorite performance was when he headlined the Super Bowl!!! RIP Prince. You will be missed!
ReplyDeleteAaah, Raspberry Beret is a great choice! For some reason my boyfriend can't stand that song (and he loves Prince!) so I always turn it up even louder in the car. :)
DeleteOf course I love Purple Rain best because it's so beautiful, but both Darling Nikki and Seven are in constant rotation on my play list! As for purple cosmetics, there are too many polishes to name but Sinful Colors Mezmerize is in my top favorite for darks and China glaze Sweet Hook for light. I also love the purple shadow in my Chocolate Bar palette
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard the Foo Fighters cover of Darling Nikki? It's pretty awesome. Check it out on YouTube if you haven't heard it! :)
DeleteYes, the FF cover of Darling Nikki is excellent. But that song always brings back memories: anyone who grew up in the 80s and purchased the Purple Rain album will agree that the song was quite shocking upon hearing it for the first time. I remember playing the record in my room and having to turn it down low when that song came on so my mom wouldn't hear it!
DeleteOoohhhh I will totally check that out I love Foo Fighters! Thanks for the rec!!
DeleteMissSixx....both of those are my favorite Prince songs as well!
DeleteMy favorite purple makeup item would probably be voodoo by urban decay...or the purple shade from the Theodora UD wizard of Oz palette (I don't know what it's called on the top of my head) My favorite prince song is When Dove Cry :)
ReplyDeleteOne of his best!!!
DeleteSo I don't really own many purple beauty products, except some nail polishes and Ulta brand automatic eyeliner, but my favorite Prince song is probably Kiss! It's a hard decision though!
ReplyDeleteKiss always makes me think of that famous Julia Roberts scene in the bathtub in Pretty Woman!!! :)
DeleteThere is not a purple made that I could rock. Lilac maybe. My favorite song is Raspberry Beret or Little Red Corvette.. In honor of those to songs I had an Aveda lipstick in Raspberry that I loved and Red would be Ruby Slippers NP
ReplyDeleteThis was so easy for both questions! MAC Heroine lipstick and "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World".
ReplyDeleteOnly purple beauty products I own are hundreds of purple nail polishes and an eyeliner and eyeshadow that I don't even wear. Favorite Prince song? Impossible to pick only one. But if I had to pick...When Doves Cry, 1999, Diamonds and Pearls, or I Would Die 4 U. I'm going to stop there before I start listing more. :)
ReplyDeleteI am not too fond of the color purple (although I do like the movie). I do have a favorite Prince song....Housequake! Every time I heard it I just had to get up and shake my thang! RIP Prince!
ReplyDeleteI still rock out to Prince's Controversy! Makeup-wise, I always go for various eyeshadow shades of purple, however, back in the day, mid-late '80's, Maybelline had an almost neon metallic lilac soft eyeshadow pencil I loved. Just a thin line right next to the eyelashes made my eyes stand out - like BOOM! (And like a lot of great/fun colors, it faded away over time - shame)
ReplyDeleteWhat a phenomenal artist whose massive talent was unparalleled and such an incredible loss for the music industry. & it's so hard to pick just one song, so I'll pick songs from different categories. I'd have to go with "Let's Go Crazy" with The Revolution, best duet song would be a tie between "U Got The Look" with Sheena Easton and "Love Song" with Madonna, and best song by another artist written by Prince would be "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. I can't believe a part of my youth died at such a young age! He'll definitely be missed! :( My favorite purple beauty product is Elizabeth Arden's Beautiful Color Luminous Lip Gloss in Iridescent Mauve. It has a slight hint of purple to it, and I absolutely love it! (I hope this post isn't a duplicate. I'm having issues with posting.)
ReplyDeleteTopshop black widow lipstick. Great deep vampy purple. Also I wanna be your lover, delirious, and cream. 💜💜💜
ReplyDeleteOooh good questions!! Purple is my favorite color. Even named my daughter Violet. There are some beautiful purple products out there but my favorite is the limited edition Loreal Infallible Shadow in With A Twist. My favorite Prince song is The Most Beautiful Girl In The World!!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has SiriusXM they were playing Prince nonstop this entire weekend and I have listened to nothing else since Friday. He had soooo many songs, even ones I forgot about so it has been a great weekend just groving to Prince. Let's Go Crazy and Raspberry Beret are probably my favs, but I really can't pick just one. He was a true icon and there will never be another artist like him. G, you said it best: Nothing Compares to U Prince! We will miss you!!
ReplyDeleteThanks to the Lipstick League for including Prince in your weekly wrap-up.
To answer the makeup related question: Voodoo by UD is one of my favs.
If you guys have Sirius XM put on ch 50 for prince channel! You can also get free online trial for 30 days...
ReplyDeleteDamn it, I wanted Bordeaux Boulevard SO badly and never found it! The same thing happened last fall with WNW's LE Night Cap and that amazing green nail polish.
ReplyDeleteOne of my top faves is St. Lucia lilac by Essie. I'm wearing zoya serenity on my toes now. It's a really great shade of purple.
ReplyDeleteYears ago, when I was unemployed and struggling right after college and living with a friend and his family, he MADE me watch Purple Rain and a WHOLE bunch of music videos because he was a Prince superfan and wouldn't let anyone he knew off without at least introducing them to Prince. I liked it but even after tasting his tremendous influence in music to that day, didn't really get into it. Fast forward a few years, I now finally have a job that pays well and am married to a percussionist that came THIS close to playing in front of Prince, and still living in Minneapolis, and all of a sudden Prince dies. I guess I always took for granted that I was gonna see him live one day, since he does a lot of impromptu concerts in and around Minneapolis. Just saw Purple Rain today and recognized SO many of his hits that I've heard, knowingly or unknowingly on the public radio here over the years, and for the first time, his sincerity and emotional intensity in his music really hit me. My husband and I both cried many times. I guess influence and fame makes a person seem both invincible and immortal, and though Prince always showed his vulnerability, he finally reminded us that he too cannot escape death. I don't really know where I was going with this, so I'll just end with my favorite songs: When Doves Cry and The Beautiful Ones. As far as makeup goes, I don't really look good in purple, unless you count Kir Royale from Bite Beauty.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all let me say I am a Minnesotan and Prince was the real deal he put Mn on the map and he was always very proud to call Mn his home that being said my fav purple makeup item is Any purple eyeshadow that makes the green in my eyes pop and my fav Prince song is 💋
ReplyDeleteFavorite prince song is hard. My faves would be diamonds and pearls, kiss, and u got the look. Favorite purple makeup... hmm... zoya polish in asa. :)
ReplyDeleteOh god, to pick one purple item or one Prince song? For makeup I've long loved purple and plummy eyeshadows, and I'm always drawn to all kinds of purple nail polishes, from lilac to deep eggplant hues. I can't be without purple.
ReplyDeleteAs for Prince, Purple Rain was the first album I ever bought, through hoarded allowance money and the odd dollars and quarters earned for chores. I also got to see it at the drive-in that summer. For favorite songs, though, I've had tons going through my head all week: Let's Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, 1999, Little Red Corvette, Beautiful Ones, Kiss, Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Controversy, Pop Life, Raspberry Beret, Seven, Sign of the Times... and there's way more. I remember hearing When Doves Cry on the radio, though, and being blown away by that. It sounded so different, so poetic... I made a lot of mixtapes of his music to tote around and play on my Walkman is all I can say...
Same two songs-my faves also! And When You Were Mine.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Prince song: The Beautiful Ones
ReplyDeleteOPI Do You Have This Color in Stockholm? purple polish and Diamonds and Peaaaaarls!
