The Lipstick League - Week of 3.28.16

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

Let's talk body hair removal. Are you a razor person, or do you use another method (wax, depilatory cream, or device)? Or do you prefer to go au naturale?

G's answer: for many years, I used an epilator on my legs (I bought it at Target--very similar to this one). Don't believe what anyone may tell you--that thing hurts. At first. But over time, you do get immune to most of the pain, and after a while it becomes second nature. Since you're literally pulling the hair follicle out, I noticed that after several months of use, certain patches of hair on my legs never grew back. I still see those results to this day (much less hair overall on my legs), even though I stopped using the epilator several years ago when it finally gave out on me. I was too lazy to bargain-shop for another other when it died, so I switched back to razors and I've just been using razors ever since (I just use the basic, old school Original Venus three-blade for pretty much everywhere on my body; I just like that one best despite all of the fancy, newer versions). One of these days I might switch back to an epilator though. It's just a little time-consuming since I prefer to us it dry (better traction that way) and you need to lay out a towel underneath your legs to catch the hair, and you also need your hair to grow out a bit so that the epilator has something to grab on to. That's probably more info than you ever wanted to know about epilators. Sorry for the tangent!

  1. I'm a razor girl. In the summer legs are done daily. I can't stand stubble of any length. If I did and I had the cash I would get lazered. Thankfully I'm not particularly hairy and even the hair on arms and legs is blonde.

  2. I admit, I go natural most of the time, but I occasionally use a razor. I wish women having body hair wasn't seen as a bad thing. It's a pain trying to shave my thick, dark body hair. I unfortunately don't have enough money for laser treatments.

  3. I've had laser hair removal( bikini line and lower legs). I still shave my upper legs though.

  4. I just use a razor. But I have recently switched shaving cream to Cremo Cream and I love it, so no going back to foam! Also, I agree with Renee, I'm not sure why having body hair is seen as a bad thing. I'm older and growing up as a teenager, we were never taught to get rid of everything. No one I knew did. But nowadays, I guess it's just what people do. And nothing against it, some people prefer to be hairless or are self-conscious about their hair, but those who choose not to shave everything shouldn't be looked down on.

  5. Good old 2 blade men's razor. I steal from my husband's stash. He's much hairier than me, I only need one or two blades a month, I don't shave much other than my pits unless I'm going to be wearing a bathing suit.

    1. Men's razors tend to work better at removing body hair. My body hair tends to clog up women's razors.

  6. I don't do a lot. A bit with the razor more in summer, but I'm not super hairy. My mom's naturally blonde and I picked up some of her coloring, and have lighter, finer hair on arms, legs, etc. And I'm lazy ... I don't think most people look that close, either, so who am I to care.

  7. I have an epilator that I use mainly on my arms because I just like the way it looks and feels when my arms are de-furred. Legs are are whatever razor cartridge I find at the bottom of the drawer till they run out then I will probably use the epilator there as well. The only thing I'm nuts about is the glorious mustache that I seem to grow overnight. I use a pen trimmer for that. I really can't stand it because I love wearing dark lipstick and it just makes the hair stand out so much more. Also my husband spotted an inch long black hair growing out of the middle of my neck last week. I named it Herman and sent a pic to my sister. We agreed to start an all girls ZZ Top cover band called Sharp Dressed Mam's but eventually hubby made me pluck Herman. Ok, I'm done being weird for now.
