Milani Amore Matte Lip Crémes: Original Shades vs. New Shades

image credit: @ttlmakeupjunkie for Nouveau Cheap

NOTE: before I get into this post, I want to mention that Drugstore.com is having a B3G1FREE sale on select Milani products right now HERE (you can mix and match between qualifying products) and many of the new 2016 products are included in that sale, as well as some of my favorite products from the original line (Color Statement Lipsticks, Color Statement Matte Lipsticks, Rose Blushes, Baked Blushes, and more). Free shipping on orders $35+. Just add at least 4 qualifying items to your cart and the 4th item will be free. There doesn't seem to be a limit on this sale, so if you add 8 items to your cart, 2 will be free, and so on. They do NOT have the Amore Matte Lip Crémes on their site, so this really isn't related to the rest of this post. It's just an FYI since we're talking about Milani.

When I announced last month that Milani was coming out with new, permanent shades in their wildly popular Amore Matte Lip Créme line, I received a lot of questions on that post regarding how these shades compare to the original shades.

So today I'm thrilled to be able to give you a shade-for-shade comparison of six of the ten new shades vs. six of the original shades, thanks to reader Eshani (TotalMakeupJunkie on YouTube). Eshani kindly let me share her comparison swatches above from her Instagram. Also, she posted a video HERE where she describes the CHANGE IN FORMULA (if you haven't tried the new shades yet, she says that there's a noticeable difference in formula). So definitely check out here video for her take on the formula change.

The most interesting thing that I want to point out, since a lot of you were saying that the new shades now available at CVS, Walgreens, and the Milani website are identical to the original limited edition shades, is that's not entirely true. Here's a breakdown (click a link below for Eshani's close-up swatches):

Just to confirm, there will be a total of 18 Amore Matte Lip Crémes in the permanent range. If you missed my big Milani 2016 wrap-up post, you can see the ten new shades that are available now plus the additional EIGHT new shades that are coming soon HERE.

I hope this helps, and thanks again, Eshani, for the great comparisons and info!

  1. i'm interested in trying the new creamy & mousse–like formula .

my gripes with the original was that it crumbled along the inner rim of my lips fairly quickly & it pilled when i removed it .

  2. I compared them on my instagram a few weeks ago too, but I found that Loved was slightly darker than Beloved, even on the lips, but they colors are very close.

  3. I love Eshani's reviews, as well as yours. I've been following you for several years now and you ladies always do such thorough reviews! That being said, I'm SO glad that I bought most of the original formula, but MUST get the shade Gorgeous. It looked great on Eshani and I can't wait for your review, as well.

  4. I actually watch Eshani on YT. Her videos are very helpful because she usually buys the entire collection and swatches them all.

  5. Fascinating! Thanks for the color breakdown. Glad to hear there is a new formula, but it makes me regret jumping on this collection when it first came out! I was so eager, and now my swatches are dang near obsolete.
