I feel like I write this same blog post every year about this coupon, but I think it's important to debunk rumors that are floating around social media about this Ulta coupon, so here we go!
Every year at around this time, Ulta sends out a coupon (either via email or snail mail) to customers for 20% off a single purchase. And unlike other Ulta 20% off coupons, this coupon does not exclude most prestige cosmetics (there are some exclusions, but we'll get to that in a moment). This coupon contains a unique, one-time-only code (which you can't see in my photo above).
Also every year, I hear from people who say that this coupon is only for Platinum members. I am NOT a Platinum member at Ulta, and I received this code yesterday via email. I know that several of you (Platinum members and non-Platinum members) received your codes last week. I also know that some of you haven't received codes at all.
I have no idea how Ulta decides who gets this discount--and when--but all I can say is keep an eye on your in-box and your mail box. Again, I just got my code via email yesterday (late Monday night), so there's still a very good chance you'll receive one!

PS: I have heard from some of you who said that you used your coupon for the UD Gwen Stefani Palette. My coupon clearly states that this palette is excluded from this coupon (see above), but maybe if you're Platinum, it's not excluded? I have no idea--maybe one of you can confirm that for me? Thanks!

I am Platinum and my mailer does indeed *exclude* the Gwen Stefani UD palette by name, as well as Lancome, Clinique, Dermalogica, Benefit Brow Bar services, Beauty Steals, and the 5 for$5/10 for $10 offers.
I am Platinum and it does exclude GS, but it does include fragrances on mine.
I haven't received mine yet, but I can say from past experience it probably depends on your postal service. Sometimes the paper ones will have a statement somewhere stating something like, "deliver between Dec 7 and Dec 14" or whatever the effective dates are. When I lived in Maryland I never ever got mine until the coupon was expired (along with many other out of date flyers). Fortunately I could explain it at my local Ulta and they would still give me the discount.

Mine is the same. It boldly advertises that fragrances are included. Maybe that is the Platinum Perk.
I'm a platinum member and even though it does say excludes ud Gwen palette it allows you to use the code online for it.
By one purchase- does that mean multiple items in one go, or one item one time?

I'm about 80 or so away from becoming platinum, so as of now I'm not and I received in the mail today. Sometimes I get coupons emailed vs mailed and sometimes I don't get any of the ones going around.

Same here, I am also a Platinum member and the coupon CAN be use on fragrances, which is usually not the case with these coupons.
One order, not one item. The coupon in my post says "entire purchase" but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that you can't use the coupon on multiple orders (like you can with certain Sephora promos). Hope that helps!

I played on the site and the code worked for me to get the Gwen palette. I probably am gonna opt for sowmthing else. But I wanted to see if it worked and it did. I have a screen shot sent to your Instagram. I wonder why it works for some people?

Just got mine today in the mail and I am Platinum. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the way they do it. I also received an email with an offer. If you spend $50 you get a bag of 12 samples for free. Plus shipping is free at $50. It wasn't hard to spend 3 times that. I stocked up on things I use all the time plus one or two splurge brush purchases.
Since the coupon says: "Limit one per customer, per visit." Does that mean reusable?
I was not allowed to use it on the gwen palette in store. They told me no dice.
I'm Platinum too and mine says the same thing. Whoever scored the 20% off the UD Gwen palette got lucky that the Ulta associate was paying attention to the coupon exclusions.
They have an awesome deal with rusk right now, all the products are buy two get one free and in the gifts with purchase tab, you get a free full size volumizing mouse with a $25 purchase, so you get two full size items totally free, which you can stack with your 20% off coupon
I am Platinum. I added all my items to my bag and total them manually and then did the 20% off and it gave me 20% off of my total. I had fragrance and the UD Gwen Stephani and the new tartelette in the bloom I also got the free Robe with the purchase of a fragrance and the beauty bag. It only gave me the message on about the coupon restriction on the robe and the beauty bag which both items are free. Again I received the 20% off the total of my whole purchase.
No coupon in site via email or snail mail and I actually hit platinum this year ;( I really want the UD Gwen palette and seeing that people got it with their coupon I want to use it before they figure it out and restrict it.
I am not Platinum, but I received the coupon at one of my addresses, not the other. (I order to my work & home & typically get their mailings at both addresses.) I wanted to buy the Naked 1, 2 & 3 palettes, but sometimes the employees at my local Ulta are "less than friendly & helpful" (to put it nicely). I sent a msg through Ulta's Facebook page to confirm that the 20% CAN be used on premier brands, other than the few exclusions listed (mine has fragrance, Lancome, Clinique, UD Gwen Stefani palette, etc.) So I am pretty excited to get a nice savings off something that was on my Christmas list anyway.
Unfortunately not everyone gets this offer :(. I just spoke with an Ulta representative and she said that all offers/coupons are randomly sent, so not everyone will always get them.
It would be nice if they could automatically add it to the bonus offers in our accounts like they do with all the other offers. I don't like their random selection process. I've received it all the other years and now that I actually qualified for Platinum I don't get one? Makes no sense.
I received the coupon by snail-mail. Does anyone know if I can use the one-time code online and then go in store and use the barcode for a total of two purchases?
No, I've tried this before, it doesn't work, so you're better off saving it for online if the item you want is sold out in store.
I've totally been looking forward to this 20% off coupon, but I haven't received one by either snail mail or email! I'm so disappointed. My fingers are still crossed that it's not too late!
I called yesterday too to confirm that my mailing address was right and got the same answer. Said they did it differently than years past, both platinum and non-platinum were included in the "lottery" on who got the 20% coupon. Less than happy to say the least. Oh well.

My email coupon did not exclude the Gwen palette, and I just tried it and it works. However the snail mail coupon clearly states that the Gwen palette is excluded.
I got 2 20% coupons, the platinum discount a few day ago and the random one today (both are linked to my account). The random one actually says 1-time use but the platinum perks coupon did not. Does anyone know if the platinum discount is 1-time use only? I was thinking of using it at the store and also online. Thank you!

Hmmm that's weird I bought the tarte in the bloom and the GS ud palette they said to me (which I never read the fine print so I assumed it included everything at the time I am also platinum) that I couldn't use it on the tarte in the bloom because tarte is "prestige' items but I could on the Gwen Stefani...unless I got lucky this was just today like 4 hours ago :-) but I no other ppl on my area of the city bk ny by in Manhattan who also used it ...I wonder if it really depends which store or if ur platinum because it's in the computer like wen they rang up the in the bloom to use the 20 percent off it made a big ding noise like it didn't go through but not for the Gwen palette !!!
Good morning everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a possibility of Ulta sending out multiple coupons. I have received 3 20% off coupons including fragrance; two excluded Gwen Stefani, one doesn't. I received one the week of Dec 7th- 14th, the second one Dec 11th- 18th, and the last one came by email. I called headquarters and they verified that all three coupons are valid and can be used separate. This means I can make three separate purchases and get %20 off for each one. For anyone else that this has happened to, don't throw them away thinking it's a duplicate because it's not. I just wanted to share this information :)
I got multiple 20% off coupons, but none of mine could be used on prestige. All just regular coupons. I'm so jealous, because I really wanted to buy Naked 3 this year! :(
