The Lipstick League - Week of 5.4.15

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

What are your thoughts about tightlining? Are you a fan? And if so, is it essential or just for special occasions?

G's answer: Nope, not a fan. I mean, I love the way it looks on others, but I can barely apply liner to my lower waterline without my eyes becoming a watery mess. I've tried applying it to my upper waterline a few times and it was disaster. I'll leave tightlining to those who are far more skilled than I!

The Lipstick League Links of the Week

we heart this - Summer is coming, Fekkai will make sure your hair is ready in it-girl like fashion.

Beautygeeks - It sucks that the US lacks the range of micellar cleansers that Canadians have. But Simple Cleansing Micellar Water IS sold in the States, it’s perfume-free -- and you shouldn’t keep it in the bathroom.

Clumps of Mascara - butter LONDON has a new nail polish formula out. Woohoo! But is it worth the extra $3?

Gouldylox Reviews - Tired of nudes and not feeling the summer brights, either? Play with color and texture with this gorgeous palette from Smashbox instead!

Love for Lacquer - 18K Gold Plated Brushes?! Yes please! Make Mom feel LUXE this Mother’s Day with these gorgeous picks from b-glowing.com!

My Beauty Bunny - We dropped by The Organic Pharmacy for a Green Coffee Body Sculpting Treatment and went home with their Beauty Drops for glowing skin. Read why they are worth the splurge!

My Newest Addiction - Laura shares with us the Battle of the Brow Pomade. Anastasia Dipbrow vs Salon Perfect Brow Pomade. Stop by to see who wins!

Nouveau Cheap - I love LORAC’s little seasonal, budget-friendly palettes, and this summer’s Alter Ego Dream Girl Palette is certainly no exception.

Prime Beauty - scoped out some new product launches from NYX you'll definitely want to know about!

Vampy Varnish - Discovers what all the hype is about with the ColourPop Lippie Stix and the hype is real!

  1. I love eyeliner, and I like how tightlining looks, but it's a big nope for me. My eyes (and contacts) are super sensitive, so I can't even wear mascara (I've tied tons, and they all flake into my eyes and irritate them). There is no way I could make it through a day and actually be able to see if I attempted to tightline. :(

  2. I have hooded eyes.. TLing is a must for me. If I apply liner to the lashline it is all you see, looks like I have no lid at all... and wings are physically impossible, my crease extends beyond the corner of my eye. I either TL top and bottom in a matching color (I've yet to find anything that does not transfer from top to bottom, and I've tried everything I promise), or just do the WL in a light shade and use a nice smudgy liner on the very outer corner of the upper and lower lashline.
A tip.. apply the TL/WL before your shadow.. much easier to manipulate your lids without worrying about smudging your shadow or making a mess.
My favorite liner for that purpose is the Sephora contour liner.. not too expensive, tons of colors including beautiful mattes, never "oozes" in the corners, goes on pigmented, stays true to color (a lot of other brands seem to change on the WL), and lasts all day for me. The UD velvet liners work well also.. but there are fewer colors and they are twice the price. I've heard wonderful reviews of the Marc Jacobs liners.. but they are even more expensive and I'm allergic to them.

  3. I can take it or leave it. Mostly leave it! I do it every once in awhile if the mood strikes. I find that UD 24/7 liners are the best. They are one of the only liners that don't wear away on my waterline.

  4. No thanks, besides the way I apply my mascara makes it look like did tightline.

  5. I agree with Carol G. I can take it or leave it. I'll do it once in a while and I really love it once it looks a bit "slept in," or for its intensity to make my eye color pop, but I don't find it worth the effort to do it all the time. I prefer to apply eyeshadow wet, with either a brush or sponge applicator, so I get more intensity, and then I work the darkest shade into the lashline for added definition, and I'm content.

  6. Tightlining is part of my everyday makeup routine. I like that it makes my eyes look like I've spent a lot of time on them.
