Sephora Sun Safety Kit vs. Sephora Inside JCPenney Sun Safety Kit

I'm sure most of you already know this by now, but Sephora as a new Sun Safety sampler set for Summer 2015, available both in-store and on the Sephora website ($32; $155 value). But did you know that Sephora inside JCPenney stores also have their own, exclusive Sun Safety Kit, which is a bit different than the regular Sephora kit?

Today I'd like to compare both kits for you, which I'm able to do thanks to reader Liz (@lizw217 on Instagram). Liz spotted the Sephora inside JCPenney Sun Safety Kit in her area last week and kindly share some pics and info with us. So let's do a quick comparison.

First, the Sephora Sun Safety Kit:

(retail: $32 at Sephora; available in-store and online)

Keep reading for more info and a comparison of the two kits...

The Sephora Sun Safety Kit includes 16 products:

- 0.2 oz AmorePacific Natural Protector SPF 30

- 0.3 oz Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50

- 0.5 oz Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in Light Medium

- 0.25 oz Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™ Dark Spot Sun Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen

- 0.17 oz Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

- 0.08 oz Fresh® Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15

- 0.5 oz Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47

- 0.34 oz Korres Yoghurt Nourishing Fluid Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 30

- 0.17 oz Murad® Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30

- 0.1 oz Ole Henriksen total truth™ eye crème SPF 15

- 0.5 oz Origins VitaZing™ Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Energy-Boosting Moisturizer with Mangosteen

- Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense® Lotion SPF 30

- 0.6 oz Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 50+ WetForce Broad Spectrum Water Resistant (80 Minutes)

- 1.69 oz St. Tropez One Night Only in Light-Medium

- 0.34 oz Supergoop!® City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30

- 0.34 oz Vita Liberata Passion Flower & Argan Dry Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50

- Travel bag

So that's 16 products for $32. I'm not sure if any of these products are full-size, but many of them do appear to be deluxe samples.

The Sephora inside JCPenney Sun Safety Kit:

The Sephora inside JCPenney Sun Safety Kit includes nine products (the Murad product is not listed here):

All of the items in the SJCP kit are also in the Sephora kit:

- 0.17 oz Murad® Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30

- 0.5 oz Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47

- 0.6 oz Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 50+ WetForce Broad Spectrum Water Resistant (80 Minutes)

- Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense® Lotion SPF 30

- 0.17 oz Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

- 1.69 oz St. Tropez One Night Only in Light-Medium

- 0.34 oz Supergoop!® City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30

- 0.34 oz Vita Liberata Passion Flower & Argan Dry Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50

- 0.1 oz Ole Henriksen total truth™ eye crème SPF 15

So in other words, for $5 more ($32 vs. $27), you will receive seven additional products if you purchase the Sephora kit:

- 0.2 oz AmorePacific Natural Protector SPF 30

- 0.3 oz Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50

- 0.5 oz Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in Light Medium

- 0.25 oz Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™ Dark Spot Sun Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen

- 0.08 oz Fresh® Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15

- 0.34 oz Korres Yoghurt Nourishing Fluid Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 30

- 0.5 oz Origins VitaZing™ Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Energy-Boosting Moisturizer with Mangosteen

As Liz mentioned to me when she shared her pics, it's clear that the Sephora kit is a better value than the SJCP kit since you're only paying $5 more for nearly double the amount of products. BUT, if you don't live near a regular Sephora store and you don't want to order online, at least you have this option if you live near an SJCP location. AND, don't forget that, toward the end of the season, Sephora inside JCPenney stores sometimes put these kits on clearance. Remember THESE crazy sightings I posted about last February for the holiday 2013 kits? So yeah, keep your eyes peeled at the end of summer...you just might find these Sun Safety kits on clearance at your local SJCP.

Thanks again, Liz, for the great info and pics. I really appreciate it!

  1. Thanks for this comparison! I was going to go to my local Sephora in JCP but think I will venture to the mall to pick up their kit there instead.

  2. Can you clarify something for me. In the photo of the JCP kit (it says $27 on the bag in the photo) it also shows the Murad Invisablur. However, in the next picture where you show the back of the JCP kit it does not have it listed. (I maily notice this item because I am desperately seeking travel sizes of these for a few trips this summer and don't want to risk taking my precious full sized bottle). In your description you state it is one of the items that only comes in the Sephora specific kit. Am I crazy? (That is a very likely possibility, that is why I ask)

    1. Excellent catch!! Thanks so much for pointing this out. They definitely left it off the signage! Will update my post. Thanks again!

    2. Ok, I'm glad I'm not crazy! Is a great addition to have in both both kits. It is an amazing product!

  3. I didn't know there were two kits, thank you for posting. I ordered it from Sephora (with flash shipping) after I got the email from Sephora, and it arrived yesterday. The SJCP in the mall by work is way more convenient than schlepping to the other malls, so this way I know what's up! :)

  5. If you order online there are a few coupon codes that work. Spfmini lets you choose 1 of 4 deluxe samples of an SPF product. Bareduo lets you choose 1 of 4 bare minerals fountain and brush duo. Freshlips lets you choose 1 of 2 Fresh Sugar lip balms. Bronzed is 1 of 3 samples of a sunless tanning product. Beloved is a spicy and earthy sample bag. Each time I tried 1 out it would delete the other free sample. There are a lot more codes too if you search for sephora on retailmenot.com that I haven't tried yet. There are $25 levels and $35 levels and then were some that are for VIB members. The one that says code freegift did not work when I tried it.
