The Lipstick League - week of 3.9.15

The Lipstick League Question of the Week:

Do you ever leave the house without applying any makeup?

G's answer: If you were to ask me this when I was in my twenties, I would have told you, "Never!" But as I get older, I seem to care far less about wearing makeup when I leave the house. At this point, I often wear no makeup when I'm running errands on the weekends. But let me get real here--I don't LOVE how I look without makeup (thanks, sun spots, age spots and dark circles!). So I do tend to at LEAST put on some CC cream and blush if I have the time!

The Lipstick League Links of the Week:

Gouldylox Reviews - I know it's pricey, but this mirror changes everything. EVERYTHING.

Love for Lacquer - The Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks will change your life. Check out 11 different shades now!

Nouveau Cheap - Is there actually a way to remove stubborn glitter polish without ANY rubbing? I put the new Nail-Aid NO-RUB Power Gel Acetone Remover to the test, and here’s my verdict.

Prime Beauty - needs some oomph in her hair. Enter to win your own set of Tressmerize hair extensions and pump up the volume in your hair!

Vampy Varnish - There is a new Eyeshadow Primer Potion from Urban Decay in town called Enigma and 100% of the purchase price goes towards a great cause for women called The Violet Underground!

we heart this - Remember that time we played Cinderella with Lauren Conrad? No? Oh, then read about it!

Beautygeeks - If there were a starter kit for developing “Cat Deeley charisma,” I’d buy two of them. The vibrant host of So You Think You Can Dance is full of easy warmth and self-effacing humour in person, and happy to talk about that time she set her gorgeous hair on fire.

Beauty Junkies Unite - Amber (and Redken Certified Colorist, Andi Scarbrough) spill some very real, no B.S. truths about going blonde. We don't want to discourage you, but we do want to share some harsh realities that both you (and your hair) will face. This is a must read!

EauMG - is relocating to the East Coast and is sooo busy! Victoria did get around to posting her favorite things from February ‘15.

Glitter.Gloss.Garbage - Take a trip down memory lane with these China Glaze Kaleidoscope swatches.

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Gouldylox Reviews - Julia Coney was one of the first "big bloggers" I ever got to meet and she's just as awesome today as she was then. I especially love her post about being beautiful in your own way and not ascribing to the Instragram mode of beauty. Please read it!

  1. I work in a lab so I can't be bothered with applying makeup during the week. I thoroughly enjoy it on the weekend, though!

  2. Very rarely do I not wear makeup. I feel like I look horrible without it. However, G, I agree with you. I, too, don't like the way I look without it but at this age I just don't care what other people think. That is one good thing about getting older...

  3. Nope. I'll go out with less makeup.. but oil controlling primer, color corrector, concealer, mascara, and tinted brow gel are pretty much mandatory. The "basics" take about five minutes but take about ten years off me. I don't even slouch around the house without them unless I'm ill. Never know when someone will stop by or I'll have to run out for a minute.

  4. I'm the opposite. In my 20's I had great skin and hardly ever wore makeup. Now in my 40's I can't go without it. I have rosacea with the visible blood vessels which I'm incredibly self-conscious about.

  5. Mostly don't wear makeup. Moisturizer, sunscreen, and lip gloss. If I had more time I would get dolled up every day!

  6. I always wear lipstick, I'm just now getting in the habit of doing a light face (powder, blush, eyeliner, mascara) I have tons of makeup that I never use and I need to start lol

  7. Yes, but only since last summer. I used to at the very minimum use mascara, but wait...that's not true bc if I don't prep lids w at least primer followed by face powder or flesh tone eyeshadow I get black crescent moons on my lids so there's that too. Would never go w/out mascara, till last summer when I had to bring my mom to a dr appt and only had enough time to do her make-up, so I left the house with just spf moisturizer (Yes to Grapefruit non tinted) and tinted lip balm as I will never ever ever go without lip protection and well, might as well have a tiny hit of life and colour to the face (my Nana always said, "a little lipstick never hurt anyone.") After that I thought i 'd feel aweful and self concious of my uncovered flaws and unpolished appearance, but no I felt a tad more accepting of well, myself. I really don't care now recently if I have to go out in public with just a swipe of tinted balm or even untinted *gasp* !! That doesn't mean I don't take care of myself anymore, bc I always strive for a me but better look that at the least requires concealer, bb or cc cream (w spf), brows, touch of highlighter and neutral tinted lips of course...but if I simply don't have the time I won't rake myself over the coals bc of it. It was good timing on my part to become comfortable sans mascara bc this winter I went out often w/out (I did do brows, concealer, bb/cc, etc.) just skipped the eye junk as my eyes were a teary sensitive mess w the high winds and dryness in the air. Somehow it would be at it's worst as soon as I started my makeup...so right then I would know...todays gonna be a no mascara day, and for once in my life I'm sooo ok with that bc it isn't about "letting yourself go" as in down the tubes...it's about letting your insecurites go enough to realize not everyone is going to the notice the giant pores, purple under-eye circles, slightly asymetrical eyes and brows and all the other imperfections that we know so well bc we lookout for those things and are hyper aware of them...meanwhile most people wouldn't even take note, unless you pointed it out to them. I like my newer attitude, I enjoy my cosmetics but I can enjoy some days without too. Afterall, I haven't turned anyone to stone by looking at them w/out wearing MU...so that's gotta be good. ;p. Ps sorry for the tangent, I guess I had a lot of strong feelings to share.
