Review: Softlips Cube Spring 2015 Limited Edition Duo

A few weeks ago, I shared some press info about the new Spring 2015 Limited Edition Cube Duo from Softlips, and today I have a review for you! Softlips sent me this duo for review, but it should now be popping up at mass retailers nationwide (if you haven't seen it already). Let's take a closer look...

Softlips Cube Spring 2015 Limited Edition Duo
SPF15 Pomegranate Blueberry & SPF15 Peach Mango
(suggested retail price: $6.49, 0.23 oz. each)

Pomegrante Blueberry is a permanent flavor, but Peach Mango is a limited edition flavor available only in this duo. Both flavors contain SPF15 and both lip balms are full-size (not minis).

Is it just me, or does the model on the packaging remind you of Belinda Carlisle in The Go-Go's Our Lips Our Sealed video? Maybe it's just me but, given the name of the song, I think it's kind of cool (even if completely unitended)! At any rate, cute packaging, right?

Pomegranate Blueberry (permanent) & Peach Mango (limited edition)

This review is going to focus exclusively on the fragrance and flavor of these lip balms, since I went over the texture, formula, etc., in my original review of the Fresh Mint and Vanilla Bean flavors (which you can read HERE).

Pomegrante Blueberry: This is actually my first time trying this permanent flavor (I've been addicted to Fresh Mint and Vanilla Bean since my original review). I detect both notes in this one--pomegranate and blueberry--when it comes to the fragrance. Sometimes I don't like blueberry notes since they can smell quite artificial, but this one is nice. Very "berry" overall, with a bit of pomegranate tartness. The flavor is more blueberry to me, but I do get a bit of tart pomegrante. Overall, it's a sweet flavor that most berry lovers should enjoy. But I do want to note that, just like with the other Softlips Cubes, there's menthol here, which means that there's a slight tingle on the lips, and a bit of mint flavor and fragrance as well. It's not enough to make it weird (which sometimes happens when you mix mint with other flavors) and to me, the emphasis is more on tart fruits with only a hint of mint in the background.

Peach Mango: Aaaah, this is fun. The fragrance reminds me of Japanese mango gummy candies. It's more of a syrupy, sticky-sweet mango fragrance to my nose, and I think that has to do with the peach note (it makes the overall fragrance more syrupy to me). The flavor actually makes me think of mango bubblegum, which I have never had (but it sounds delicious, right?). I swear I get a slight bubblegum flavor to this one, in addition to mango and peach. And just like with other Softlips Cubes, I get a hint of mint in the flavor (but only in the background) and a little tingle on the lips. I love this one so much--I've been wearing it constantly since I received it.

FINAL VERDICT: If you're a Softlips Cube fan (which you know I am) and you love fruity, tropical flavors, I think you'll be quite happy with this duo. I love both flavors, but since I'm a huge fan of mango and all things mango-flavored, Peach Mango is my favorite of the two. If you love mango as well, then I say grab this duo while you can, since it is limited edition for Spring 2015 and only around for a short time.

Have you spotted this duo in your area? Do you already own it? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. Love Softlips! Got to call my local Walgreens if they have this duo. Thanks for the review. :)

  2. Just bought the vanilla and love it, though I do find that I need to reapply it very frequently - more often than eos. I've been wanting to try it for forever, but only did so because Meijer was running a sale (2.99) and I had a coupon for 2 bucks off...otherwise, it's hard for me to justify the price. Reaaaaaaally want to try this new Peach Mango, but unless they decide to sell it separate, I probably won't fork over the 7 bucks to get it (not too interested in the pom/blueberry one).

  5. Yup, I can totally see the Belinda Carlisle-ishness! My first thought when I saw her in an ad in a mag was the models in the ads and on displays for Exclamation! perfume back in the late 80's up to the early 90's...everything was b&w and polka dots w a pop of pink. That was a fun frag bottle...base was rounded white milk glass with the black cap looking like the top of an exclaimation point!
