The Lipstick League - week of 1.26.15

The Lipstick League Question of the Week:

Are there any makeup looks you wish you could rock, but feel like you can't?

G's answer: I can't do super deep, vampy lips or super intense purple lips (neither look right with my skintone) but oh how I wish I could! I love vampy, super dark lips and very intense purple lips on so many others, just not on myself. Sigh...

  1. G., have you tried dark brown? It's more flattering on my yellow toned skin than burgundy or purple. Jordana's new modern mattes come in a great cheap option (Cappuccino) if you want to try. I also have a couple of Maybelline 24hr that are beautiful dark browns.
For me it's winged liner. Just can't do it with my eye shape. Those cool toned bright pink lips everyone rocks in the summer look horrible on me... I have to do an orange or raspberry instead. Also long/no bangs.. totally not flattering with my high forehead and prominent nose.

  2. I love a really dramatic lined eye, tightlined and all, but I rarely do it. I feel like, on the wrong day (which is often) it overemphasizes my dark circles. I would love to rock a super dark lip, too, but there's a tipping point. A deep brick red, I love, but more purply or brown and it just feels gruesome.

  3. The matte lip. I can't do it. Makes me look dead, seriously.

  4. I have a feeling most of our "can't"s could become "cans" with slight tweaking! Like when someone says they can't wear green nail polish, but the truth is they have to find the shade that works with their skin tone. My can't is dark lip color because it makes my thin lips disappear, but a deep berry gives me the dramatic effect of a dark lip while keeping its usual shape.

  5. I love deep red lips. And is so hard for me to find the perfect shade. Otherwise I look... Weird.

  6. I look ridiculous when I attempt to contour.

    1. Yup, same here. My skin is not very smooth in the cheek area, some old acne scars, pitting or whatever and contouring seems to make it more noticable. Also, with very oily skin it blotches up quickly and just ends up looking like mud. Just can't get with it anyway (although I've tried) its something best left for photos as irl it will look odd from certain angles. I also cannot to a über dramatic heavy smoked eye, I just don't have enough "real estate." My lids are kinda hooded I guess, a lot of space on top but not much lid/socket space, so highly intense dark es makes them appear even smaller.

  7. Most nude matte lipsticks wash me out so much. Also orangey lips and blue/green eyeshadow scare me too much
