Reader Swatches: NEW Ulta Matte Lip Creams

Before I get into this post, I want to make sure you know that ALL Ulta brand cosmetics are currently on sale (through this Saturday, 2/14) for B2G2FREE both in-store and online. So if you want these new Matte Lip Creams, now is the perfect time to try them! They are $9 each, so with that sale and the $3.50 off $10 coupon, you'll be able to purchase four for a grand total of $14.50 (that breaks down to $3.63 per tube!). Full retail would be $36 for four of these, so that's quite the deal. And remember that this sale also includes the new Rose Gold and Gilded Gold palettes (click HERE for my full review of the Rose Gold palette), as well as the new Lip & Cheek Sticks, etc. You can view all Ulta brand beauty products HERE.

When I saw the new Ulta Matte Lip Creams in one of my Ulta emails last week, I was immediately intrigued (I mean, matte + lip cream gets our attention, right?). So I'm happy to be able to share some pics and swatches with you, courtesy of reader @ortizcrystal on Instagram:

NEW Ulta Matte Lip Creams (ten shades)
(retail: $9 each)

Keep reading to see @ortizcrystal's swatches of eight of the ten shades in this range....

So happy there are testers in this display! Here are @ortizcrystal's swatches of eight of the ten shades in this range:

Tender, Artistic, Vivid, Spirited, Striking, Passionate, Stirring, Elusive
(NOT PICTURED: Brilliant and Lively, which you can view here)

What's interesting is that, if you look at the description on the display, Ulta describes these as "glamorous, shiny, sheer lip color." Well "shiny" sort of contradicts the name (Matte Lip Cream), and these don't exactly look "sheer" to me. They look quite opaque and pigmented, right? I think that description might have been an error and is probably in reference to one of Ulta's lipglosses, because here's the description of the Matte Lip Creams from the Ulta site:

"This velvety smooth matte lip cream is a fluffy, mousse-like cream texture that feels soft and light on the lips while delivering bold, intense color with a high fashion matte finish. ULTA's Matte Lip Cream formula is so rich and creamy, lips are never dry."

Very different from the display description! @ortizcrystal told me that she purchased two shades this week, but that she can't yet comment on wear-time since she hasn't really had a chance to test them out. She did, however, say that they feel very "soft" on the lips, as described above.

Again, if you're interested in trying these out, just scroll back up to the top of this post for details about how to get four for $14.50 (now through Saturday, 2/14) both in-store and online. In the meantime, have you seen these in-store yet? Have you already purchased any of them? I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks so much, @ortizcrystal, for the great sighting and swatches. I really appreciate it!

  1. HI G! Just wanted to point out that these swatches do not show the entire range; there are 8 swatches here but on the Ulta website there are 10 colors in total. The two missing ones are "Brilliant" and "Lively". HTH!

    1. There is ALWAYS a $3.50 coupon on Ultas site.. Sometimes there is a $5 off $10.. OR a 20% off coupon.. I never go to Ulta without the coupon.. PS~ it only works on non-prestige items.

  4. Also site says Allusive. Not Elusive. Threw me for a minute looking at the site.

  5. After seeing your IG post I quickly drove to Ulta and took advantage of the buy 2 get 2 free. Ulta hadn't even put them out on the floor yet, but the sales clerk was nice enough to let me look through the bag that held all of these new matte lip creams lippies. I wasn't able to swatch any of them in person, because they were set up on the display yet. Thanks to you and your blog for posting pics of these lippies. It really helped me decide which four I would choose first. I have yet to try any of them, but $15 for all four of them was such a great deal!

  6. I picked up Tender, Artistic and Allusive. Also got their new illuminating highlighter. Used my coupon and my total came to $15.50 (the illuminator was $1.00 more). The lip creams are lovely. I wore Artistic for 5 hours tonight. Totally matte but comfortable and not at all drying. All 3 colors look amazing on. Going back to get more tomorrow!

  7. Can you mix and match with the buy 2 get 2 Ulta products, or does it have to be 4 of the same product? Thanks!

    2. Sort of, the Ulta brand spray brush cleaner didnt count but other stuff did so be sure to watch as it rings up! They wouldn't have told me, I caught it and asked why it didn't count and they weren't sure,.maybe its not technically makeup or whatever, dunno, but some things don't count as I found out the hard way :)

  8. Hmmm. I'm intrigued by matte lips, definitely, and Ulta often has sales... I agree sheer and shiny don't apply to mattes, though. Stirring really grabs my eye.

  9. I don't know about anyone else but the Ulta stores in my area always are a total MESS in their Ulta brand area. The eye shadows are generally 3/4 emptied out, no testers, colors all mixed up so they don't go with the few testers that aren't totally trashed. The lipsticks are a complete jumble. I have no idea what's been going on there but they seem to not stock the Ulta brand stuff and don't keep it cleaned up. They have the Ulta brand right along the front of the stores by the check outs so it's not like they're hidden away somewhere that store staff can't see what a wreck they are.
That being my rant, I really hope I can manage to see a few of these before they get hoovered up and it will take them months to restock. These look lovely and my hope would be to see a nice display with testers right next to where the sealed ones for purchase are and enough stock of the colors I'd want to make a trip there worthwhile.
