Breaking Beauty News: Coty to Buy Bourjois?

Why is this notable? Well as you probably already know, Coty owns Rimmel, OPI, Sally Hansen, NYC and lots of other brands that many of us know and love. If they purchase Bourjois, one would hope that we'd see bigger and better distribution of Bourjois here in the US.

Some of you may be too young to remember this, but Bourjois used to be sold at Ulta. I remember the days when the Bourjois display at Ulta was one of the premiere displays in the higher-end beauty section at Ulta. Over the years, Bourjois has become harder and harder to find in the US (it's still extremely popular in Europe and other parts of the world). These days, those of us in the states can pretty much only get Bourjois online at places like ASOS, Urban Outfitters and Walgreens/drugstore.com (and Walgreens/drugstore.com's inventory is very limited).

If Coty purchases Bourjois, would you like to see Bourjois have better distribution here in the US?

  1. Noooo! They'll change the formula,,,I get it from overseas because it's a cheaper, albeit not as great,, but definitely close version of chanel formula in the blush and shadows..Oh, they will undoubtedly no longer be the same, hence, not as desirable to me,,I shall stock up,,I mean,, I'll be watching to see what it's like but they surely won't be a "watered down" chanel,, so bummed :-( ,,,, thanks for the info though :-)

    1. Hum...I think it's hard to assume the formulas will change at this point. Lots of brands get bought and sold and formulations stay the same, but I know that's not always the case. I'm just thinking back to 2010 when Coty acquired OPI. I don't I think the OPI formula changed after the acquisition. I'm only basing that on the polishes I owned before and after...I still get the same long wear-time, etc and i don't recall seeing fans complain about a major change? Anyway, I understand your concerns!

    2. PS: if you read the article, Chanel would still be a shareholder if the deal goes though....

  2. Funny that you mention Coty. I have been testing out lip balms and mascaras for them. I have a photo of one mascara and one lip balm that I have tried recently. These items are in Rimmel packaging. I try the products out for a week and then I get paid for my opinions. It's fun to see if these items will be on the market or not.

  5. I hope it goes through so I can buy the foundations here again. When I ordered them through Asos the shipping was horrible and they just threw it in the box.

  6. Wayne Goss always tells us that it is Bourjois that owns Chanel and not the other way around. So if Coty buys Bourjois, do the buy Chanel at the same time then?

    1. No, it is the other way around. Chanel owns Bourjois. If you look at the New York Times article I linked to in this post, you'll see the details. Chanel will become a Bourjois shareholder if this deal goes through. Thanks!

  7. I would love to see more distribution here! I am so excited! One of my first mascaras ever was a hunter green Bourgois one from Ulta and I loved it! I always wondered what happened to it. Thanks for the update, G. I hope it goes through.

  8. This is promising indeed! I've never had any issues with the brands that Coty has picked up in the past. This could be a very good thing!!!

  10. I would like to see their products in the US. I was just in Toronto and found them at Shoppers Drug Mart for about 10 times more than what I paid when I visited London. I bought some products anyway, since I knew I wasn't going to London anytime soon. I would also like to see all of MUA's products in the US as well. They have great shadows.
