The Lipstick League – week of 6.2.14

Lipstick League Question of the Week

What’s the most underrated product in your beauty arsenal?

G's answer: I've mentioned it a zillion times and it's even on my Holy Grail list, but I rarely hear anyone talk about Black Radiance Complexion Perfection Shine Control Primer (Black Radiance is owned by Markwins, which also owns Wet n Wild). If you haven't had luck with translucent silicone-based primers, this is an opaque white primer that contains kaolin clay, which really helps to absorb the skin's natural oils. I only need a little bit applied in a thin layer to my face before my foundation, and it really helps keep my makeup looking fresh all day while minimizing the inevitable break-through shine. For about six bucks at  drugstore.com and select Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid and Walmart locations, it's the one primer I always go back to time and again.

  1. I'm gonna need to try that Black Radiance primer. I'm always on the hunt for something that will control my oily skin. I have a few products that are pretty good but only lasts no more than 3 hours. I'm just hoping that there is something out there that can last a tad bit longer.

  2. Tresemme dry shampoo, used on clean hair for adding volume. I tried many other brands but none come anywhere close to this one.

  3. Glam Puss made me think of my favorite dry shampoo, the one by Salon Grafix for brunettes. I use it to add a bit of color touch-up and volume. I love that stuff and now can only find it at Ulta, so I go there and pick up a couple cans every time I go. I also like ones by Tresemme and other brands, but the SG is my favorite by far. I'm also always impressed by essence cosmetics. I mainly buy eyeliners (the automatic ones) and nail polishes from them, but for such a good price I get good wear and pigment from both.

    1. Do you use dry shampoo on freshly washed and dried hair like I do? I'll give the one you like a try but I want to be able return it if I don't like it. How is Ulta on returns?

  4. Hey G,

I have a more affordable suggestion than the Black Radiance primer, it should work for you since it does for me and I have pretty much no luck with the silicone primers either. You can order a humongous bag of kaolin clay from tkb in their mineral makeup ingredients and take a big fluffy powder brush and apply it to your face before you put on your foundation and I swear your foundation will stick like white on rice and you'll not have any shine all day long. My only advise is to put a towel around you before you put it on your face as it can be quite messy if you use a large powder brush. I don't have that trouble if I use a regular powder puff velour thingy, but I like powder brushes. The price is great you get enough to fill probably 30+ mineral foundation jars for about $4 i've had mine for 3 years and haven't used it up yet. I wish I knew how to make sure that you saw this comment as I think you'd find it helpful but hopefully you get new comment notifications.
