Swatches: Wet n Wild Spring 2014 Limited Edition The Style Award Goes To... Megalast Nail Color Collection

NOTE: If you're looking for the Wet n Wild The Style Award Goes To... Collection (including these polishes and the limited edition 8-pan palettes) stop by the interactive sightings map to see if they've been spotted in your area. And if you have found this collection in your area, please consider leaving a marker on the map to help others!

I was sent the new Spring 2014 Megalast polishes and 8-pans for review this week, and I wanted to get swatches up as quickly as possible since this collection is now starting to pop up in stores. Check back soon for my swatches of the new 8-pans but until then, let's take a closer look as these polishes!

Wet n Wild Spring 2014 Limited Edition The Style Award Goes To... Megalast Nail Color Collection
(retail: $1.99 each, 0.45 oz)

This collection can be divided into two categories: frosts and shimmers (as illustrated above). So let's start with the frosts:

 photo 024-5.jpg
Candid Affair
three coats, no top coat

Candid Affair is a white frost that required three coats for good opacity. I might have only needed two coats if I were better at frosty polish application, but I pretty much suck at applying frosts. This frost gave me flashbacks to the 80s when I would spend hours in my room trying to get the brush stokes perfectly straight and uniform (which I still cannot do). No issues with this one aside from the issue of most frosts (brush strokes and sheerness). Dry time was normal.

NOTE: I am aware that there's a technique for brush-stroke-free frost application (click here to see the sponge-tip applicator method) but guess what? I suck at that method too. Anyway, I just wanted to put that out there in case any of you would like to give that method a shot!

Elegance
three coats, no top coat

Elegance is a light pink frost that was a little more challenging for me to apply than Candid Affair. The brush strokes were bit more pronounced with this one. Other than that, dry-time was normal and no issues aside from the brush strokes.

 photo 022-3.jpg
Champagne Toast
three coats, no top coat

Champagne Toast is a champagne frost that was a bit easier to apply than Elegance. Dry-time was normal, but this one's a bit sheer, even after three coats (you can see that I still have Visible Nail Line in the pic above, after three coats.

The shimmers:

 photo 001-5.jpg
Silver Lining
three coats, no top coat

Silver Lining is a beauty! This is a lavender creme that's loaded with silver shimmer and just a touch of iridescent shimmer. No issues with this one (aside from it needing three coats). Dry time was average.

 photo 014-4.jpg
Valet Tag
two coats, no top coat

The only shade in this collection that required two coats (as opposed to three) for perfect opacity, Valet Tag is a stunner. This is a pale taupe creme that's loaded with silver shimmer and a whisper of iridescent glitter. No issues with application and dry-time was average. I think this is the must-have of this collection, and I suspect it will probably be the first to sell out in the display. Grab this one when you see it--I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Sophisticated Lady
middle finger: two coats over a black creme, no top coat
ring finger and pinky: three coats, no top coat

Sophisticated Lady is a very sheer gray jelly loaded with iridescent glitter. Three coats still reveals plenty of VNL (Visible Nail Line), as you can see above. Since this is so sheer, I thought I would show you what it looked like layered over a black creme (top finger above). Just one coat of Sophisticated Lady over black looked really brush-stroke-y, so I applied two in the pic above. You can still see some brush strokes after two coats over black though. I'm curious what this might look like layered over a gray creme--I'll try that and post a pic later if anyone's interested.

In conclusion, I think that there are two absolute must-haves here (unless you already have similar shades): Silver Lining and Valet Tag. If you are a frost fan, Champagne Toast and Candid Affair applied better for me than Elegance, but if you use the sponge-tip applicator method for frosts, then it doesn't really matter!

Have you spotted this collection in your area yet? If so, I would love if you'd leave a marker on the sighting map! If you haven't seen these in person yet, are any of these shades jumping out at you? Any must-haves here? Please check back soon for my swatches of the 8-pans in this collection, coming soon!

  4. Just a quick note...

Wet n wild switched their color names. I have the full collection bought from Harmon. I believe my names are correct.

    White frost:
    You, 34360, candid affair
    Me, 34357, elegance

    Pink frost:
    You, 34357, elegance
    Me, 34359, sophisticated lady

    Purple shimmer:
    You, 34358, silver lining
    Me, 34360, candid affair

    Gray jelly shimmer:
    You, 34359, sophisticated lady
    Me, 34358, silver lining

My colors seem right because my gray jelly name seems to match it best... silver lining.

    What do you all think?

    1. Glad it's not just me. I only got "Candid Affair" / "Silver Lining" the dusty lilac, I also purchased it at Harmon. My bottle is not as vibrant as the swatches here. My bottle is a heavilt dusted, greyed out palest lavender with lilac/leaning pink reflects.

    2. I saw the same shade names as you, different than G's. WnW has switched names accidentally before - I've bought a mislabeled lipstick before. Non-ideal quality control, I guess

    3. Ditto -- my "Silver Lining" is what was swatched as "Sophisticated Lady."

    1. Yeah... actually the other websites I saw these on had those names too.
I really want the purple one; oddly enough, that sheer gray one is pulling at me too =)

  8. Not a fan of the finishes but I really appreciate the swatches. Thanks!

  9. I love Silver Lining and Valet Tag. Such beautiful shimmers. The frosts are pretty, too, but I don't care for the brushstrokes that result from application. But the sponge application sounds worth a try.
